Author: BarbaraMunson60 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/5166.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have a few loops in the tree, too. On Ancestry, when you want to add a spouse that's already in the tree, go to the Profile page of the person you're adding a spouse to, get on the Relationship Page and click on Add a Spouse. You'll be given the option to Add Someone Already in Your Tree. Click on that and everything will automatically be linked. (I'm going from memory here, but the wording is similar to what I posted.) Author: fkhargett1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/5166.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for your help on this. Maybe I'm trying to make this harder than it is. Let me clarify by saying I'm talking about the tree in Ancestry.com. It grows by starting with myself and then adding my parents. I'm in the process of starting all over (because of the duplications!) from a tree I began which now has about 1400 individuals in it! My new tree now has about 189 names, but I've been watching the list as I've entered the data and the duplications didn't start until I got to my two Wells brothers, Jasper Mashburn & Erastus Posey Wells (my great-grandfathers). So...should I have begun with just one of my parents, adding all the data when I got to my two great-grandfathers as brothers on let's say my father's side. Then when I added my mother's side and I got to her grandfather, would I pull him from the tree, rather than typing it in myself? Does Ancestry let you do that? I haven't had any problems in my FamilyTreeMaker software with the duplications, and it does have the capability to merge families. I appreciate your time and willingness to help me in this. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ORWells Surnames: Wells Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/5166.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This should not be such a problem really. You want to start at the top above where the brothers come into play. Think of them as two separate families, not as cousins (which they are). Their parents are entered first. Then each son is entered in the proper sequence. Work down each branch individually filling the generations one level at a time first for one branch then for the other. When you get to your first parent, enter him/her without spouse or children. Then enter the second under the other branch. Then go to your father and select his spouse from the entered individuals. This will link them, no duplication and no real confusion. From there just enter their children. I am not sure what your tree will print out as, but it should be right. If not, you are using the wrong software or need to communicate with the tech support folks for the manufacturer to fix anything that does not come out right. I have never tried to print a tree like this, but it ought to work with an odd juncture at where the brothers are joined to their parents. Hope this helps some. My parents were 2nd cousins, so two of my WELLS great-grandfathers are brothers. How do I keep from duplicating them and their descendents in my tree since they both have to be added in two different places...1)as each of my parents grandparents; 2)listed as brothers of my gg-grandparents. I've read we can't merge families, so what do I do? Thanks! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You know I never thought anything about not finding them on the 1920 census. They did have 5 kids. One daughter Beverly I don't have any dates for. I just know she only lived to be 4. The first child that I have a date for is a daughter Thurva born 1915. So I guess they cuold have married that young. If she was 14 they wouldhave been married in 1912. So Beverly could have been the first child they had maybe. Again thank you for responding. I'll have to get the death records and obits to find anything. Wells in the 1910 census could possibly be Roberta Virginia. The father's birthplace is listed as North Carolina in both of those reports, but I've found my gg grandmother's birthplace listed as 3 different states in 3 different census reports. I always take those and ages with a grain of salt. It just depends on who was home when the census taker came by. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He died 22 July 1959 South Boston,Halifax,Virginia. I know her dad was born in Massachusetts and her grandfather was born in Ireland. I've been told her grandfather's name may have been James Wells and that he was a boat captain. But can't confirm this. I'm desperately trying to find her parents.
