If your male DNA results were analyzed by Family Tree DNA, you can find the haplogroup there. They even offer a Deep Clade test looking for specific SNPs to further narrow your haplogroup. For example: In the Wells Family DNA study, I am in family W016 associated with families W006, 20, and 28. I belong to haplogroup G2a2 (apparently a rare group). Got ya, Bonita. I'll check with the clerk. However, I do know that he is not T.P. Wells and is H.P. Wells. He was a probate judge in Marshall COunty, KS in the 1880s. Thanks. Still looking for anyone researching any of this line. Denise
The marriage is probably either a typo in translation or it could be the marriage license/bond. I would contact the County Clerk there and give them the dates, they can tell you which is correct. Re: census, look at the original and see if it could be T P Wells ... transcribers were not always accurate .. and the enumerators were also not always that literate. I recently found a census for a woman who's name was "Anne B" and the census was "Amilie" ... phonetically he was close. Bonita -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Monday, August 31, 2009 5:18 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [WELLS] MARRIAGE: WELLS, John W. to HICKSON, Martha Anne I believe I may have located my great great grandfather. I found the marriage of John W. Wells to Martha Anne Hickson in Warren County, Mississippi in 1819. I don't know which is correct though. I found two instances of this marriage. One is listed as 7 March and the other as 17 March, 1819. Is anyone on the list researching this marriage? My basis for believing this is the correct couple is based upon information that my grandfather, John Thomas Wells, was born in 1870 in Marysville, Marshall County, KS. The person I located that I believe is my grandfather is listed as Thomas in the 1880 census, in which the original indexes were for families that had children age 10 and younger. Tracing this Thomas back to 1870, I find he has a brother named Pendlton Wells. My father's full name was George Pennelton Wells. Also possible clues are that the father of Thomas Wells, b. 1870 Marysville, Marshall, KS shows in the census as H. P. Wells. Further, I located a Hickman Pendleton Wells married to a Martha Scott. Following this marriage brings me to the same H.P. Wells in Marysville, KS. In 1880 he is listed as a Probate Judge. I eventually received a mini bio of Judge H. P. Wells, which indicated he was born in Adams County, MS in 1829. The biography states that H.P.'s mother was of the Hicksons of South Carolina. Consequently, when I located this marriage in a Mississippi database of Mississippi marriages, I am leaning toward believing that this Wells/Hickson could very well be my great great grandparents. Anyone researching this line? I would dearly love to connect with you. So far, I have found no one researching this line of Wells. HELP!!!!! Thanks. I uploaded the newest version of the WELLS DNA Merge Database this morning. The only changes are merges of duplicate individuals (still have over 3000 to do) and Some new data (very little). This will be the last update for a few months as I need to pay attention To the things I have ignored the last few months. <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hillmer/DNA/index.htm> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hillmer/DNA/index.htm Bonita \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo---- Just Looking for clues ... There is some miss information out there that has been proven wrong with DNA so these two are as far back as I can go. I have a theory that these two brothers were the only ones of that family to go the KY - TENN - ILL route. There was an older brother who went from KY to ILL and died in ILL. William Wells can be seen here - http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/9392815/person/-731131144?pg=32818 and Jonathan Wells here - http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/9392815/person/-677847747. Their father is not William Wells who lived in Tenn. That is the miss information that has been assumed by many but disproven by DNA. My grandfather was Lloyd Alford Wells. He had three brothers, Howard, Robert, and Raymond. Then one sister Wilma. We believe that Wilma married into the surname Goff or Gauff. They were the children of Richard Andrew Wells and Garnet Weakly. According to Richard's World War I draft card his date of birth was 17 Aug 1886. According to the 1910 federal census he was born in New York, but his mother's birthplace was Missouri and his father's birthplace was Ohio. In 1920 he reported to the census that he was born in Missouri. So far I have not been able to find any evidence of parents for Richard or Siblings. I have been trying to find a good copy of the 1900 or 1890 Oklahoma and Indian Territories Census but so far that has not been successful so if anyone knows some good links for that I would appreciate it. I also checked the Dawes rolls for Richard, but di! d not find him there although there were a surprising number of Wells. If anyone has any information on Wells from the area and the time I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
