If so, they may have some of the same records that would be found in NJ. I know that the TN State Archive & Library has books, as well as microfilm for all of the states for census, some birth and death records on film. They also have a lending agreement with some of the states like Virginia. This are some possibilities. I have a great understand of the flustration that comes when hitting that brick wall. I can't get past Dinwiddie County, VA with my WELLS line. Then on my Mother's side I have two lines, REAVES\REEVES & BULLARD that just disappear. Do you know the parent counties of the one in DE? If not, I have a book that I can check for you. Sue Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: BarbaraMunson60 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/5531.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Sue, I'm in Louisiana, so researching in Delaware and NJ is difficult. Apparently DE didn't register birth records during the time when my grandfather and his younger brother were born there. I did find a researcher in NJ who is going to the archives for me this week. She's already looked for a marriage record for Mary and Charles but couldn't find one. I've given her a few possible connections (Lippincott/Wells, Lippincott/Smith) I've found in the online database for marriages, and she'll get me the records for those to check out. I also found the birth date of one of the sons born in NJ and a possible birth date for the other, so she's looking for birth records for them. She's also getting me the marriage record for my grandfather's brother so I can see which name he has listed as his father. I'll look into finding a historical society in Sussex Co., DE to see if births were registered on a local level 1886-1890. I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the suggestion. Then remember that the counties were formed at different times and from other counties, sometime more than one county. So searching for birth records may take you into another different county all together, eventhough you family may have never moved. Author: lulu47 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wells/4860.3.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The eldest child of Reverend Isaac and Nancy Wells was Caroline Matilda. She married John Waddell. He is said to be born 1794 in Louisiana, but I have no proof of that. They had at least five children between 1826 and 1841, and then both the parents died before 1850. They were listed on the censuses in Madison Co MS in 1840, same on 1841 and 1845 State Censuses. Their children were: Eleanor M. Waddell, born 22 Nov 1826 in East Felician Parish, Louisiana, married Jeremiah Wallace before 1845. Jeremiah died young in 1848 and they only had one child, Martha J. "Mattie" Wallace, who married a Civil War brigadier general, Daniel Harris Reynolds, on 28 Nov 1868 in Chicot Co, Arkansas. Mattie's mother remarried to Benj Avent and as a widow, lived with daughter Mattie Reynolds in Arkansas on the 1870 thru the 1910 censuses. Emaline A. Waddell, born 1828 Louisiana, married first John T. Avent and lived in Attala Co MS on 1850 census--her 13 year old sister Amanda C. Waddell lived with her. She married second Hestor Houston McCrehin and in 1860 they lived in Grimes Co, TX--Emaline's younger sister Nancy Waddell lived with them. Amanda Waddell, born 1837 Mississippi, in 1850 lived with her sister Emaline Avent-- married Jesse Rambo and lived 1860 in Holmes Co MS. Nancy J. Waddell, born 1839 in MS, lived with her grdparents, Isaac and Nancy Wells in Attala Co MS in 1850. 1860 with her sister, above. No further info. John Waddell, born 1841 in MS, lived with same in 1850. Note that Eleanor and Emaline married Avent brothers. In Dec 1859, in court papers concerning his estate, Eleanor and Emaline Avent were listed, also Amanda Rambo and John Waddell. I find no listing of Nancy Waddell.
