My search stops here and I can't find anything prior to 1870 census. Does anyone have any clues? I am the great great granddaughter of Elias C Weit and really want to continue to search further back on the Weit's and am stuck! I know she had a brother who was in the war, that is, WW One. I think the Austrian army. Ernestine Weit worked as a cook, in lots of different spas throughout the empire. I wish I knew more but I never met my grandmother as she died in Terezin in1942. Who is Solomon? I have some letters of my grandmother, from c. 1910 ; they are gphard to read as they are written in Yiddish and a very old type of German script, but let me look through them again, see if I see anything about a Solomon. What would be important would be her parents names and where they were born. My great great grandfather lived in Mielec when he died. His oldest daughter Regina was born in 1873, she is the oldest of 5 sisters and I believe there could have been a son Szimon and we think his mother died in child birth. I do not know if Solomon had any sisters. Let me know what you find please. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Marilynrsiebold Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.weit/11.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello! Thank you for responding! OK, here is what I have... My grandmother, Ernestine Weit, born in 1875 in Wala Ragosza (spelling?) in Galicia, which was part of the Austrian Hungarian Empire. I know that this town is now in Poland - I will get the correct spelling, but it sounds like this and I found it online. She had at least one brother, name unknown. She married Otto Krautwurst around 1906, and they lived in Vienna and in Berlin. As far as I know, their only child was Robert Krautwurst, my father. He was able to leave GermNy in 1933 and made his way to the USA the day that World War II started. I was born in NYC and my father changed his name to Kay. Please let me know if you can make a connection! Marilyn Siebold Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
