    2. "Elijah" ... a name that was overlooked in the Weeks line after at least 1750. Looks like one Biblical name got away from them. As I've said, as far as I can tell, this branch seems to have stayed in South Jersey for the most part, until the 1960's when a couple of us took off for other parts of the world. We recently had a family reunion, and while I came from Florida, most of the others had driven less than an hour. 2. Hi. No, I don't think that we're talking about the same line of Weeks'. I checked quickly back to Ezekiel Weeks b. 12/17/1750, and there is no George in the line. I know there were Quakers in the line, but in the 1800's the crossed over to the Methodists, and from that time on, seem to have been buried in Methodist Cemetery's in Green Bank and Lower Bank, NJ. 3. Elijah Weeks of Floyd Co., VA was a son of Alderson Weeks. Alderson is said to have been a Baptist Minister. There are records of many marriages that he performed in Virginia. The Elijah who went to NM was possibly Elijah, Jr. I have more information on this line if you will contact me privately. 2. Ron, The Weeks line that I have all come from Weekstown, NJ (improperly named Weeksville, NJ in the records on Ancestry.com). I have a cousin who's done a lot of the work (Stroble) and for some crazy reason (I think to trace who's using his work) changed Weekstown to Weeksville. (He's just a little strange anyhow). At any rate, I'm working from Franklin Henry Weeks/Edith Lizzie Sharp, my paternal grandparents. Franklin was born 6/18/1883 and died 7/14/1957. Edith was born 10/7/1888 and died 11/13/1975. Franklin Father was Daniel Weeks, born 1844 and died 1916.. He was married to Rebecca M. Camp, who was born 3/18/1849. There were 6 children in that family, Elizabeth, Anson, William, (1868), Belford, Walter and Franklin. I don't know if this helps any.....this branch of the Weeks family tended to use Biblical names all over the place, and each generation seems to have used the same names through their individual families. So much so that the DOB is the only clue to which generation a particular name belongs to. I'll look in some of the other papers that I have to see if I can find anything else that might "put you on a trail". I do know that there's a Weeks Plantation, still in operation in Louisiana. I haven't tried to make the connection that exists (if any does) there. Family lure says that there were two Weeks brothers that came over here in the early/mid 1700's. One of them, ironically, drown getting off the boat in NYC. Ah, it's a proud family, even if unlucky. The survivor wandered into New Jersey, and thus begins the saga of Weekstown, in Egg Harbor Twp, Atlantic Co, NJ. Weekstown, last time I was there, (10 years ago), hadn't changed a bit since I was a boy, and used to go visiting my great aunts and great uncles who lived there, and in Green Bank, and Lower Bank....all in the area. (read late 40's and early 50's here. I was a wee small tyke). Well, good luck. I'll do some more looking, and let you know if I find anything that might be of help. ----- Original Message ----- From: <MoparLAW@aol.com> To: <WEEKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2002 4:29 PM Subject: Carlisle > Carlisle > > What, when, and where do you have a line on the weeks? > > My dad can't remember where or when his dad was born. > > I know he was in the Troop B 6 th. 3. My parents have procured a hand written family tree from my grandmother (still going at ninety four and three quarters.) My grandmother doesn't know who drew up this tree and it concerns the family of my grandfather (d. 1995.) The tree contains some names that I have found independently. The main name is Sir Christopher WEEKS, who is said to have been buried in Knightsbridge Oldchurch, London, England in about 1822. I have searched "Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry 1838" and "The Knights of England" and have not found any mention of him. According to the tree Sir Christopher WEEKS is the father of James WEEKS, "daughter married Mr JENKINS" and Thomas WEEKS. James WEEKS is father to "Miss WEEKS of Kensington an actress, very rich" [doesn't sound like my family :-)]. Thomas WEEKS is father to Thomas Bell WEEKS [my GGG Grandfather, b.~1813] Has anyone come across this family before ? 3. Here is my family so we can compare notes: My grandfather Stanley Edward Weeks was born Mar. 15, 1907, son of Thomas John Weeks and Johanna Mathilda Anderson in Grass Valley, California. He married Edna Dowlais Lusk Sept. 6, 1925 in Reno, Nevada. He died November 15, 1975 in Quincy, California. His father Thomas John Weeks was born May 11, 1878, in Roose, Barrow, Lancashire to Benjamin Weeks and Ellen Jane Michell. Ellen was Benjamin's second wife, he had no other children. The family came to the United States, probably landing in California about 1880-1881. Benjamin worked as a miner possibly in California or Montana. Ellen died about 1881 in childbirth, the child died with her. I have been unable to find where she died or when. According to my father, Thomas was then sent back to England to live with cousins and he returned to the United States when he was about 20 years old. He married Johanna Anderson and they settled in Nevada county, California, where Benjamin lived with his third wife Eliza Richards. They both worked as miners, Benjamin also worked as a cobbler and janitor of the local Methodist church before his death Nov. 30, 1911 in Grass Valley. According to my dad, another brother came to the US with Benjamin. Thomas and Johanna had three children: Stanley Edward, Thomas Karl (born Nov. 1, 1909 in Grass Valley, died in Sacramento August 6, 1967, married to Hope Clark) and Ferrol Ellen (born Nov. 23, 1903). Stanley had three sons, one of whom died at age two, Ferrol had one son who has children and grandchildren now, and Thomas had no children. Thomas John died June 28, 1940 in Nevada City, California. Johanna died in Reno, Nevada in 1960. Ferrol died recently in Reno. Both of Stanley's remaining sons and Ferrol's son are still living. I will wait anxiously until I hear back from you! 1. need help!!!
    2. Jason Haydon
    3. Hi All, My name is Jason Haydon. I am working on my WEEAKS/WEAKS/WEEKS ancestry, and have been for quite some time now. What I know is the following: William Merritt WEEKS b. 1829 Ill d. Llano County, Texas md(1) Mary Ann Hines md(2) Luvisa (TIDWELL) SWIFT He had four children: George Washington Christophere Columbus Mary Cansada md. John C. Vaught Calvin Merritt d. bef 1880 What I believe: I believe that William had a brother named Isaac H. WEEKS b. 1838 or so in Arkansas. Isaac md. William's wife's sister, and is on the 1880 census of Llano County, Texas, not far from William M. On the 1850 census of Milam County, Texas, William is listed as age 26? and living in a hotel, it also says that he was born in Arkansas, not IL. Also in Milam county are three other WEEKS, Eda, Julia, and Isaac. Eda is listed as being 24 years old and living with a STEPHEN family, Julia is 15 and I saac is 12, they are living in a MOORE family, in between two STEPHEN(S) families, the wife in the MOORE family, had been a STEPHEN(S) before she married. In reviewing the 1840 census of Arkansas, there are only four WEEKS/WEAKS households, two in Poinsett County, Arkansas. One of these is Joseph and the other is a widow named Nancy.. The children in Joseph's family do not match by age, however the children in the Nancy WEEKS household do match in age, with the addition of two more sons, one older(15-20 years old), and one in the same age range as "ISAAC" (zero-five years old,) and one older daughter. In looking for clues I have found records that say that Joseph WEEKS was from Tennesse, and should have been there in 1830. The only Joseph I have found that might match is listed as WEAKS in 1830 TN, and living next to him is a John WEAKS, correct age to possibly be a brother of Joseph, and with the correct number of children, falling into the proper age groups, for the children and the wife. My supposition: William Merritt WEEKS(later spelt WEEAKS) was the second son and fourth child of John and Nancy ________ WEEKS/WEAKS, that John died between 1838 and 1840 in Arkansas, (possibly Poinsett County), and that Nancy died sometime between 1840 and 1850 in TX or Arkansas. What I'm asking: Does anyone have information which will help sustantiate or disprove my theory? Has any researched the family of Nancy WEEKS of Poinsett County, Arkansas, and her brother-in-law? Joseph WEEKS. Also, does anyone have any information on Eda WEEKS b. abt 1825 in Arkansas/Tennesse/Illinois, Julia WEEKS b. 1835 in Arkansas/Tennesse/Illinois, or Isaac WEEKS b. 1838 in Arkansas? I am also looking for information on the family of Mary Cansada (WEEKS) VAUGHT and her husband John C. If anyone knows anything or would care to have more information on this family, please contact me.
