What a lovely day I had. I rode to Walterboro, by myself, and did researh all day. Had a nice lunch and returned home by 6pm. I found some WEEKS info that I'll share later. I copied the index info for marriagess from 1911 to abt 1930, and a few deeds. The strangest thing happened on the ride home. My door chime began to ring and my automatic seatbelt on the passenger side slide down and then back up again. It startled me. Then it happened another dozen times... ding, ding, ding... belt down and back up. When I was approaching Old Fort Dorchester the power to my car died. I gently coasted onto the entrance road of the fort. I got out and opened the hood, checked the battery cables which seemed tight and got back in the car. The car started and hasn't given me any trouble since. I'm searching for an electrical problem. Mom says, "Oh, Janet those kinfolk in Walterboro were just taking turns riding in your car. They probably never rode in a car before and most had never been any further than Ol' Fort Dorchester so that's where they decided to get out!" Leave it to Mom to come up with a sane explaination! J
Hi Marge: Thx. so much for getting back to me. the Jonathan Weeks I am looking for, his wife's name is Ann or Anna Miller. Jonathan was English and it is thought he was a military man, thus probably why there is confusion about whether children were born in New York or Canada. The majority of us believe, after viewing land records, that the children were born in USA. I don't think the Joseph / Hannah works yet and none of the subsequent generations here in Canada used the name Lewis, thus I tend to think it is not the definite link I am looking for. Despite the Loyalist movement during those times, I haven't found any concrete evidence that our Weeks fought in any battles in Canada. They swore their allegiance, but seems the military aspect died with Father Jonathan. If and when I get more concrete evidence, perhaps I could touch base with you again. I so appreciate your efforts at helping. Heather
Heather For Jonathan WEEKS, I see a Jonathan who m Abigail WILDMAN Their dau Elizabeth m pos in 1761 Silas BENEDICT. I think Jonathan also m a Jerusha, but don't have much there, axcept that they had a dau Mary. Another, or maybe the same, Jonathan WEEKS had a son Bartholomew who had a dau Mary. If this sounds useful, we could check sources (or lack thereof!) Joseph WEEKS and Hannah LEWIS had a dau named Hannah WEEKS. The name Lewis WEEKS intrigues me because of Hannah (above) Marge (----- Original Message ----- From: "Heather Williams" <heather.williams@shaw.ca> To: <WEEKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 08, 2005 12:20 PM Subject: Weeks of Oyster Bay > Hello Marge: > I, too, am a Weeks researcher in Canada. Hi there, Does anyone have a Chank Weeks in their database? I knew his daugher, Lulu who married Otho Cliffe Hylton. I think Chank's father was William H Weeks. Am away from my files at the moment. Thanks, Dale Hylton -------------- Original message --------------
My husbands gg grandfather was Anthony Weeks born 1821 Westchester NY but the name Lewis keeps popping up. His daughter's middle name was Lewis and she put her father's name down as James Anthony Lewis on her Mother's death certificate. I thought she had put his last name down wrong, it is a fact it was Weeks and she carried the Weeks name herself as did her mother and the civil war records plus their marriage license and the census's. So now after reading your post I believe it was either his father's name or Mother's maiden name and passed on to her. They were all born in Mt Pleasant, North Tarrytown, Westchester County NY. Do you know anything about the children of Lewis Weeks? Do you have a copy of the will? Is it at the Westchester Library? Where can I find a copy of this family tree? thanks Loni ----- Original Message ----- From: "Heather Williams" <heather.williams@shaw.ca> To: <WEEKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 08, 2005 11:20 AM Subject: Weeks of Oyster Bay > Hello Marge: > I, too, am a Weeks researcher in Canada. Marge, Saw your response concerning NC Weeks. You sound like you have some info on NY Weeks. I'm at a roadblock with my ggggrandfather, Samuel L. Weeks. All I know about his birth, is that he was born in NY about 1829. Married an Ellen Taylor also from NY, before moving to New Orleans where he died. Any help would be appreciated. Are there anyone on this list who has and definate information on the Chapman D. Weeks descendants? He was born 4 Sep 1818 married Mariah Sowers 29 Nov 1845 and died 28 Apr 1878. I have been told he and Mariah/Maria are both buried in the baptist Ford Cem., in Greenland, Arkansas. Can any one verify this and what about his children. I have only been able to trace one child, John William Weeks in Kansas. Any information would be greatly appreciated. John in Lawrence, KS researching Sowers, John, Miller, Booth. Hello Marge: I, too, am a Weeks researcher in Canada. Several of us have been attempting to link our branch of 'Weeks' to those originating in the Weschester, Oyster Bay area of New York. The general assumption has been that the patriarch of our family is one Jonathan Weeks of Bedford, Westchester Cty, New York. His will is found in Abstracts of Wills, Vol XII, 1782-1784, page 318; naming a dtr Hannah Weeks, Sons Amos, John and Lewis. Our line - not proven well - is the son Amos Weeks, arriving in Upper Canada We have data saying our Amos Weeks, born 1774 Westchester Co, New York, was given land grant in UC. This Amos died May 1828 in a drowning accident. His sons were Daniel, Amos, Joseph , Walter and poss a Silas or Cyrus . No clue as to Amos's wife, whether married in Can or New York. Have you come across any of these names in your data? Heather
Hello, Marge -- Do you happen to have any information about a William WEEKS, b. in or near Oyster Bay, Nassau Co., NY, abt. 1723. He is a descendant of Francis WEEKS and his wife, Elizabeth LUTHER who settled in Oyster Bay . His parents were Samuel WEEKS (b. abt. 1695, Musketa Cove, Nassau Co., NY; d. bef. 1750) and his wife, Hannah RUSCOE. Most specifically, I'm trying to find out William's marriage information --- wife's name, date and place of marriage. Thank you. janet Which state do you live in? In most states there are programs that help a lot with this type problem. Home Delivered Meals, caregiver programs. You should call your local Department of Human Services to inquire about these. If you parent's community/county has a Senior Citizens Center they should be able to help too. Hi, From what I can find out, my branch of the tree came from the St. James area of Va, and from farther north before that. I'm wanting to say the Barnstable, Ma. area. I'd love to connect as much as possible so that one day I could " wall paper a room."
