Dear Webb family, This Sarah Byars married John Webb who was born abt 1740. She was born in Granville County, North Carolina. Their son Chesley Webb married Henrietta Blackwell. Chesley moved to Tn before 1810.. He is found up in Robertson County where he was a member of the Red River Church. The rest of his brothers are in Warren County, Tennessee. What happened to John and Sarah is not known. They are members of the Sandy Run Church in Cleveland County, which borders Rutherford County from 1782 to 1800. The last known entry in Rutherford County, NC for John Webb is 1805. I think John and Sarah both came to TN with Chesley and his brothers. If anyone can help with this John and Sarah, please email this family list. most sincerely, shirley
Hi Shirley - I don't think this John could have been the father of Meredith E. Webb because of Sarah's age (wasn't she born about 1751?). Meredith was born in 1803 and John could have been the father as Meredith was still fathering children in his 60's (my grandmother, for instance) but it's doubtful that Sarah could have been the Mother as she would have been about 52 at that time. Meredith had 4 wives - all younger than he - which enabled him to keep producing (could have been as many as 23). There is a John Webb in Maury County, TN in 1820 - the same time as Meredith Burton Webb. The census shows him with one male under 10, one male 16-18, one male 16-26 (could be my Meredith), one male 26-45 (which is probably John), one female under 10, one female 10-16 and one female 26-45 (his wife). This John sounds like he could be a brother to Meredith Burton Webb which is a theory we've been going on - he's too young to be the John married to Sarah Byars. The only thing that bothers me is that he doesn't show up in the 1830 census unless he left and then came back - remember the document I mentioned shows that he died in 1838 in Maury County if this is the same man. Meredith, however, does show up for the last time in the 1830 Maury County census with two males under 5 (Anthony & Jefferson), Meredith age 20 to 30 and Charlotta his wife age 20-30 which all fits.........Shirley ----- Original Message ----- From: TALLT75501@aol.com To: WEBB-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2002 9:55 AM Subject: Re: [WEBB] Re: Jeremiah Webb - KY Dear Webb family, This Sarah Byars married John Webb who was born abt 1740. Your Sarah Byars looks to have been married to Rev. John Webb. Sarah born 1742, father John Henry Byars, mother Rachel Mathew. Sarah and John had ten children. All of this information is what I have gleaned looking over messages on different genealogy sites. I have more information if this seems to be the line, or if you think it would help. You are welcome to contact me if necessary. ----- Original Message ----- From: <TALLT75501@aol.com> To: <WEBB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2002 8:55 AM Subject: Re: [WEBB] Re: Jeremiah Webb - KY > Dear Webb family, This Sarah Byars married John Webb who was born abt 1740. > She was born in Granville County, North Carolina.
