Ran away from home, @1827, leaving behind "a bunch of sisters, and four brothers who "went West." His father "married again and raised up a whole new family." ::Cursing the loss of 1810 & 1820 NJ census records:: OK Mary, just for you, an August idea (as you know I have been trying to recruit WEBBs from the Eastern Shore to the DNA Project (so far without luck). So now I'm trying to see if we can narrow down the candidate families in the 1830 NJ Census based on the blurb above. OK If William Douglas left home in 1827 the household in the 1827 Census should have "4 brothers" and a "bunch" of sisters and probably the oldest would be 15/20 and the youngest could be any age. Nor do we know if all of them were still at home in 1830 or had married. Nevertheless we should be able to eliminate households where the parents have only children in the 0-10 range and are too young to be William's father & mother. The "whole new family" we will deal with in a minute. I recall that after you last posted, I gave you some men from the 1850 Census in "the West" who were born in NJ.] Perhaps you can track some of them back to one of the candidate families? Hope this helps you in some way.
