    3. Mary Wyatt, for goodness sake! You did a very intelligent and timely thing! Don't lose a minute concerning yourself, just consider the source and ignore it! I'm sure I speak for 99.999% of Webb lookers. 3. Someone needs to set the record straight here. Elizabeth does not want to do it as she wanted to keep everything off list. Since Mary has elected to bring it on list I feel I need to defend what has inaccurately been said about Elizabeth. You see, Mary has not realized it, but I have been privy to their exchange. Being a friend of Elizabeth, being on some of her lists, and her being on some of my lists she Blind CC:ed the exchange to me as it took place. Mary has stated that she received "2 really hateful letters about me writing the letter the other day asking for us to all work together as a team" This is not quite true. First of all Elizabeth commended her for suggesting everyone work together as a team. She had nothing bad to say about that whatsoever. She explained that her only problem with it was that on most Rootsweb lists there is a rule that only the List Owner may call a roll call and went on to explain politely why. Roll Calls creat a sudden extreme volume of mail and for people on dialup people with small mailboxes, or people on many mailing lists (all 3apply to Elizabeth due to her fixed income) it can cause their mailbox to fill very quickly. When this happens emails are bounced and you are often automatically removed from many lists if your mail bounced. Elizabeth went on to explain, again politely, the she had been out of town for three days, returned to find her mailbox full, important emails missing, and she had been booted from several lists She explained that when a list owner calls for a roll call they normally give advance notice so the subscribers can have their mailbox prepaired for it or temporarily unsubscribe. Elizabeth explained that on many lists a subscriber can be put off the list for calling a roll call without the list owners permission. Mary's only response to this was a total non-understanding and the comments, "LADY ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM!... YOU SHOULD 'GET A GRIP' SEEMS EVERYWHERE IN LIFE THAT THERE WILL BE THE ONE THAT WILL COMPLAIN WHEN SOMETHING GOOD HAPPENS". She said, "YOU ARE THE ONLY LONE PERSON THAT HAS COMPLAINED" which is why Elizabeth started sending the emails to me since she knew this to be untrue. She had already seen me say basically the same thing onlist. After Mary got rude with Elizabeth she did get a little rude back, but it was understandable showing Mary's total lack of concern or understanding for those not fortunate enough to be able to afford expensive online accounts with big mailboxes and her extreme rudeness to a initially polite email exchange. Elizabeth did state after this that she would check her lists and remove Mary is she was on any, but I do not blame her for this. I have already done the same here as I don't need people with that attitude on my lists. Remember, what you see from someone onlist and what you see offlist are not always a good match. in which she was George Strawbridge wrote: >Mary Wyatt, for goodness sake! 3. In regards to what is going on. Tim put it well so I wont get in to that. Any one having a * personal * gripe or problem with what goes on a list **** should only ******** <><> contact the list manager. Not the member Not the list Just the lists manager [email protected] works well for this. =============== So from this point on this converasion should go bact to genealogy only. NO roll calls are allowed on the list. How ever the coment * calling all web researchers is a bit close and the efforts are similar. The main idea was trying to get the list active and maybe even some one to get involved in some Q and A's . I my self have posted query with no response, but this dont mean it was ignored, it simply means no one had a clue. Happenes. For those who think the list should be used as research group, well that is what its for, but we do not need a bunch of people trying to lead it, we have a list leader ( me)l;-))) <G> I do not see reason for me to try to guide people into a follow the leader I know most of you are great researchers. As for another mention on Roll Calls - no is my answer, it is a good way to get moderated or off the list, How ever why not try other things, like advertise your people dates and places in the subject lines. Or query, ask if any one in remote might do a local look up at a court house or local archive, so it might cost that person a coin or two, but then that person can ask and some else can spend a coin, it rolls around, equalls and works. No more personal yadda on the list please. As for tiny mail boxes, I have a few invites left for google mail, about 2 gig mail boxes, if some one really needs out of the small boxes. Please, even as adults we do not need to fight, or send other members hurt mail - this is supossed to be a fun project right l;0)) Dan M - WEBB-L admin
