    2. Dear List.. I am sorry it has taken me so long to post my family.. I have been looking for all my records for a week, they are scattered all over my computer.. I have been researching this family since 1981. There has only been one tiny crack in this brick wall when Bob Keyes found an Addison listed as an heir to Adin Webb which is the Webb/Boone line... whether this is my Addison or not is still on the back burner simmering... but here goes.. this is what I have on my Webb's ... I only have additional information on Christopher Columbus Webb my gggrandfather... Any help would we of great help... Thanks, Louise Kay Horton 1. ADDISON R1 WEBB was born Abt. 1798 in Kentucky/Virginia, and died November 1873 in Aberdeen, Monroe Co. Miss. He married NANCY DILLON about 1827. While census reports reguarily recite that Addison R. and Nancy Dillon Webb were born in Kentucky, family tradition holds that both may have been born in Virginia, he about 1798 and she, at a place called Dillon's Run, about 1810. The family story relates that he, as a big boy, was apprenticed to a large firm of blacksmiths in New York City and, upon becoming a journeyman, returned to Virginia to be employed on the plantation of Nancy's father. Addison and Nancy fell in love but her family objected to the match, possibly because of her youth( she was only eighteen when her first child was born). They eloped, apparently coming immediately to Hunstville, Alab where their first child was born, and never had contact with either one's family again. We do not know the names of their parents. We know little of the Webb's life in Huntsville except that Addison was a Mason. The I have a picture of him shows what is said to be a Master's Apron. He was never Master of the Aberdeen lodge so it must have been in Huntsville lodge that he so served. An extant demit(which I have a copy of) was issued Addison by the Huntsville Lodge November 5th, 1842, establishing when the family moved to Aberdeen. Six children were born to the family in Alab. Jerome, Paloma, Obediana Jefferson, Ruth R., Christopher Columbus, and Mary Benton. Three more were born in Mississippi they were Alabama, Georgia, Robert, W.E., and Nancy. John E. Rodabough, in his thesis, A Guide to Trades, Crafts and Industry In Antebellum Aberdeen, speak of Addison as" the most prominent of Aberdeen blacksmiths". He also states that Addison served as a selectman in the 1845 and 1859. Thomas Brandon built a shop for him just north of the northwest corner of Washington and Chestnut Streets in 1850. A fire on June 17, 1853 destroyed this shop and adjacent building. The news report of the fire comments that "Mr. Webb is of modest circumstances and it is hoped that people will be generous in helping him rebuild." Until that year Addison had paid taxes on four slaves but after the fire, only on other personal property. His loss must have forced sale of the slaves to rebuild. The Webb home was on the south half of the block at the northeast corner of Meridian and Canal Streets. Addison began paying the taxes on this property about 1845. It burned about 1870, shortly before Addison's death in 1873. Little is known of Nancy Dillon Webb. Her obituary is indeed pitiful.. From the evening Tempest, May 20, 1856, "Mrs Nancy E. Webb. This long suffering lady died in our city yesterday morning. For more than two years she had been suffering form the chastenings of the fell-destroyer, Consumption, and found no relief until welcome death performed its work. 'After life's fitful fever, she sleeps well'. The eldest Webb child, Jerome is reported as being twenty-one years old in the 1850 census and was blacksmith. St. John's church records evidence his marriage to Nancy Hopkinson about 1852 and the baptism of their first child. A deed of property in the Strong neighborhood after the war, excerpts" the one Acer occupied by Jerome Webb's blacksmith shop." There are 2 Jerome Webb's listed in Mississippi Census Records. Paloma, the second child is shown by the same census as being eighteen.. We know Paloma married a Michael Holt March 13, 1851, and at some point moved to Ark... additional information will be added later... She was still living in Aberdeen in the 1890's, possibly with her younger sister, Georgia. Extant letters of that date speed of "Aunt P. " and her brother-in-law, Robert Brannin, uses the full name once. There were 6 children born to Palona Ann Webb and Michael Holt, Only one child survived, Robert Paine Holt born Jan 10, 1856 Aberdeen Miss. Mar. Maggie E Wakefield, Nov 5,1879, and moved to DeWitt Arkansas Co, Arkansas where he died in 1892. The 1850 census shows Obedian J.( Jefferson) Third child as being fourteen. He married , 26 May 1853 WEBB, Obedience Jefferson Anderson M DAVENPORT MONROE Co,MS... Ruth R. as 13, Alabama 7, and Robert 2,. Mary Benton (5th) child married Robert Burwell Brannin. Christopher Columbus Webb married Highley Eugenia Smith ca. 1859-60 and served in the Confederate Army Company C. More's Regiment Mississippi volunteers, which became the 43rd Regiment Mississippi Volunteers. About 1870 there is recorded a deed where Robert Brannin buys the west half to the block at the northeast corner of Hickory and High Streets from John Hilliday. It was at this corner that the new house for the Brannin Family was built after the fire. It still stands today(1998). Addison R. Webb died in 1873 and is buried in the old Aberdeen Cemetery Aberdeen, Monroe Co. Miss. Children of ADDISON WEBB and NANCY DILLON are: I. JEROME2 WEBB, b. 1829.Alab ii. PALOMA ANN WEBB, F b. 3. For Louise: Have you seen anything on this person during your research? Ruffin Webb, b. abt 1817 in NC iaw 1880 Monroe Co., MS., census. The 1860 Lowndes Co., MS., census list his age as 38 which would have made his birth in 1822. He married Harriet E. Robinson, dau of Elam Robinson, in abt 1850. She must have died. He then married Martha Ussery, 2 Jul 1856 in Lowndes Co., MS. The 1860 Lowndes Co., Caledonia, MS., census list him age 38, farmer; Martha, age 25 b. MS; Jasper, age 10, b. MS (probably child from first marriage); May, age 3 b. MS; John Webb, age 30, b. TN., teacher Co. school; The 1880 Monroe Co., MS., census list him as age 63; Martha, age 42, b. MS; Crad, age 20, b. MS; Zoe, age 14, b. MS (She is my line. She married Nathaniel M. "Bud" Stockton, 3 Jan 1884 in Monroe Co., MS.); Clondesly, son, age 9, b. MS, and Thomas Weaver, age 24, b. MS, hired person. If you have seen any of these names, I would appreciate a reply.
