Hello List, I am putting together some of my notes on Northumberland Co. VA. This is one of the families that has probably been eliminated as being my WEBB line. But it is still an interesting family. Please consider it a rough draft and incomplete. Dian *************************** Descendants of Unidentified Webb Generation No. 1 1. UNKNOWN1 WEBB died Bet. 1655 - 1660 in Lancaster or Northumberland Co. VA.. He married ELIZABETH maiden name also not known. I believe from the evidence that Mr. Webb died not long after the marriage leaving his widow Elizabeth, and a son John Webb. Elizabeth then married William Percifull/Pursifull/Purseyfull. It appears from the will of John Webb written in 1700, was close to his step-father, and half-brothers. Wm. Percival was one of the headrights named in Cavalier & Pioneers for a 640 acre Patient in Lancaster Co. for Wm. Nusum & Wm. Ratton. 18 Sept. 1665. I think this is the father of the William Percifull that married the widow Webb. This land was later purchased by John Webb, purchase date unknown. [Note: The name of Wm. Nusum is also found in James City Co. VA. One of these records is a patent of Stephen Webb 2 March, 1638.] William Percifull had three sons, John, Thomas, and William. I do not know if Elizabeth was the mother of all three sons, but she was the mother of William Percifull (William (2), William (1)). Elizabeth may have married at a very young age, as was the custom at the time. She does appear to have been of a strong constitution, the court records indicate she was still living 18 June, 1718, when Northumberland Co. Record book 6, it is recorded that her son William Perseyfull in his will, left her sufficient maintenance, and the executors, Thos. Everett, and Charles Craven were ordered to pay. Elizabeth (-?-) Webb, Percifull outlived two husbands, her son John Webb, and all three of the sons of William Percifull. William Percifull, the second husband of Elizabeth died in 1710. Northumberland Co. VA. Court orders 1678-1713 p. 657 - 17 May 1710 - Probate of the last will of William Percifull to Elizabeth Percifull proved by John Taylor and Michaell Keady. Generation No. 2 2. JOHN WEBB (UNKNOWN1) was born Abt. 1655 in Lancaster or Northumberland Co. VA., and died Oct 1700 in Northumberland Co. VA. I have based his date of birth on his will indicating that his children are all minors, and since both his mother and step-father were still living at the time of his death Im guessing he was no older than 45. The name of his first wife is unknown. At one time it was thought that she might have been a daughter of the John Taylor Family, however at this time I believe if there was a marriage with a TAYLOR daughter, it was their son Richard who married a TAYLOR. She died before ca. 1698 in Northumberland Co. VA., as it was about this time that he married (2) ELIZABETH. The maiden name of Elizabeth is also unknown to me at this time. But I do know that she was the widow of John Wornam and had five children during that marriage. She married 2) Thomas Lee, I dont have much information on this Thomas Lee, except Northumberland Co. Order Book 1678-1713 Motion of Elizabeth Lee, EXX. Probate to her of the last Will of her decd husband Thomas Lee proved by Richard Robinson, Jno. Chapman and Tho. Gill 13 June, 1698. Court Order Book 1678-1713 P. 244 18 Mar. 1702/3 Alexander Mulraine vs. Eliza. Webb Exx. Of Thos. Lee, Decd. Children of JOHN WEBB and UNKNOWN are: 3. i. JOHN3 WEBB, d. 1761, Lancaster Co. VA.. 4. ii. RICHARD WEBB, d. Abt. 19 Mar 1734/35, Northumberland Co. VA.. iii. PERCIFUL WEBB, d. Bef. 1710, Northumberland Co. VA.. iv. ELIZABETH WEBB, d. Northumberland Co. VA.. v. ANN WEBB, d. Northumberland Co. VA.; m. RICHARD MARSHALL (POSSIBLY). There are additional records in Northumberland County that mention John Webb, but there were two men by that name living in the county at this time, and it is difficult to match all of them with an individual. Will dated 5 October 1700 proved 16 October, 1700 Will: Son John Webb -my plantation and the land that is between my plantation and Samuel Mahanes Son Richard Webb - a neck of land joining upon William Coppedge Youngest Son Percival Webb -a neck of land running from a Sandy Valley up to Wheeler's line and to John Taylor's line. (If either John or Richard dies without issue, their land to go to the other, If Percival dies without issue, his land to go to his sisters.) Daughter's Elizabeth and Anne to William Percyfull - my best hat to John Wo[rnum?] -one coat I bought of Widow Page and pair of breeches to Richard Robinson - saddle and bridle I bought at Coll. Coopers to my brother William Percifull to my father William Percifull to my wife Elizabeth Witness Roger Jones, John Blundle, Richard Robinson Will presented for re-recording 20 Apr. 1726 by John Webb There was a fire in the Clerk of Courts office of Northumberland Co. in October 1710, and a book was set aside to re-record wills and deeds. I would be interested to know what prompted John Webb to re-record his fathers will 16 years later, in 1726. Nld. Co. Order Book 5 16 Oct. 1700 p. 135 tion of Wm. Percifull Exor, a probate to him of last will of John Webb. Proved by Richard Robinson & Roger Jones. 16 July 1701 p. 171 Wm. Percifull, Sr. & Wm. Percifull, Jr. Exors of the will of John Webb vs. William Bundel, Dismt. Generation No. 3 3. JOHN3 WEBB (JOHN2, UNKNOWN1) It appears that John WEBB that died in 1761, and left a will in Lancaster Co. lived the on same land as John Webb. who died Oct. 1700. I don't know if he is the son or grandson of John that died in 1700. If Robert K. Headley, Jr. ( Married Well and Often Marriages of the Northern Neck of Virginia 1649-1800), is correct and Sarah (Webb) Pittman daughter of John Webb (d. 1761) was married to Thomas Pittman before 12 July, 1748, then the John who died in 1761 could have been old enough to be the son of John who died in 1700. Lancaster Co. Deed Book 1706-1710 In April 1712 Lancaster Co. VA. county records show the settlement of a border line dispute between James Burbury & Charles Copedge and John & Richard Webb. John Ingram and Edwin Conway were chosen to arbitrate this dispute. Joseph Tayloe was chosen as a tie breaker. On 3, April 1712 Edwin Conway and Jos: Tayloe signed the decision awarding to Richard Webb and John Webb shall have & hold all the lands which their father purchased & devised by will to them that can be found within ye courses & distances of a Pattent granted to Wm: Nusum & Wm. Roughton 18th of September 1665 (clear of Elder grants) the courses & distances are & ought to be Northumberland Co. Order Book 6 p. 273 -19 Jan. 1718- Petition of Richard, Jno & Elizabeth Webb & Richard Marshall, ordered that the sheriff summon Tho. Everitt & Charles Craven, Exors of the last will of William Parcyfull. p. 347 -19 9ber 1719-Rich. Webb, Jno Webb & Richard Marshall vs. Charles Craven & Thos. Everett, exors of Wm. Percival. From these records it appears that Johns (d. 1700) daughter Anne may have married Richard Marshall. Daughter Elizabeth is no longer listed as a litigant after 1718. These individuals would be considered the grandchildren of Elizabeth and William Percifull. Thomas Percifull, one of the sons of William Percifull and possibly of Elizabeth (-?-) Webb, Percifull, died about March 1719. He would have been the Uncle of this John Webb. Northumberland Co. Order Book 6 p.348 -19 9ber 1719 - John Webb to be summond to bring an orphan boy named Thos. Percival, son of Thos. Percival, deceased to be disposed of according to law. p. 351 -20 Jan. 1719/20 Thos. Peircivale, orphan of Thos Peircivale, age 12 yrs.
