The 1850 Montgomery Co, VA census just lists him as Merry Webb and head of household, w/wife & 2 dtrs. That would be the first place I'd go, to an original copy of that census and see just exactly how it reads, what is elaborated, as well as the (hopefully) family/neighbors. If he was only 29 in 1850, hopefully he would be 39 in the 1860 census (Montgomery County, VA? or do you know)? 19 in the 1840 census? The other listing on p.5 is in Ch. Two, "Genealogy of Giles Webb of Chuckatuck, Nansemond County, Virginia," from the "Webb Families of the Virginias," by Ron Turner. "Among those who obtained early grants of land in Virginia was Giles Webb who resided at Chuckatuck, on the boundary of Isle of Wight and Nansemond Counties. He was a Burgess from Nansemond County in 1658, 1659 and 1660. Very little else is known about his life . . . Giles Webb is believed to have had four sons: James, John, Isaac and Giles. [Your line, if this Mary is Merry, a male, would be from this Giles (also my ancestor) to John, son of Giles of Chuckatuck. John md.14 Jul 1672, Richmond Co, to Mary Standiford. Three children registered to them in the North Farnham Parish Register: James, b.9 Aug 1673, Giles, b.15 Apr 1677 and Isaac, b.18 Dec 1681. Giles Webb, son of John and Mary (Sanford/Standiford) Webb, b.15 Apr 1677, died before 3 May 1732, Richamond Co, VA. He married Elizabeth Spann, d/o Cutbert (Cuthbert?) and Dorothy Spann. They were parents of at least 8 children: John Spann Webb (b.9 Oct 1705), Isaac Webb (b.25 Sep 1709, md.Frances Barber), Betty Webb (b.1 Feb 1711), Giles Webb (b.4 Aug 1714), Mary Webb (b.11 Nov 1717 [may be Merry [male]], Cutbert Webb (b.3 Mar 1719), Winifrede Webb (no dob), and Tabitha Webb (no dob).
