Ian, Please clarify. The historical museum and George Washington connection are another line of Webbs and not the Mayflower Alden, Bass, Webb connection? Jan
It's been a long time since I've looked at that Webb family as I did when I was trying to sort out mine from others. My recollection is that the Webb family that was in Weymouth in the early 1700s moved to Wyndham, CT by the end of the 1700s. It was even confusing to me because a majority of my Webb family (though not the part that I am a descendant from) moved to Windham, ME about the same time. Actually I may have the spellings reversed. I made an assumption and we all know how bad that is when we're trying to figure out genealogy - that the CT Webb family from Weymouth in the 1700s might be the same one that we're speaking about. Once I discovered that that family was not part of our Webb family I didn't do further work on them. I do know that the Webb family (the wrong one for us) was supposedly related to the Bass family according to stuff that I found in my parents collection of genealogy information after their death. I also remember hearing from my parents that we were related to the White baby born on the Mayflower. That also turned out to be the "other" Webb family in Weymouth during the 1700s. Have I further muddied the waters? I haven't really done any active work on my information for over 10 years but have kept in contact on this list as well as the Ward list for my father's mother's side of my ancestors. My Webbs came from Weymouth to California in the period from 1851 to 1870 with other members of the family remaining in Weymouth until the 1930s when the last relative died. By the way, does anybody know the reason for Webb Park in the Weymouth area being named that. And WHICH WEBB family it is named for? I haven't been able to find any history about it's name.
