    1. Re: [WEBB] OK I'll stir things up a bit--my WEBB brickwalls c. Civil War
    2. I have addressed this issue without much response before, so this time I'm throwing it open for ideas. I want to find these WEBB brothers! I have two WEBBs, James and John (both born GA), about whom I know next to nothing, who were both allegedly killed in the Civil War. Oral tradition says neither ever married. However, my cousin found James M. WEBB, age 20, b GA in the Rankin Co, MS 1860 Census with a wife Angeline, age 17, B MS, an infant, E. J. 11/12F, b MS, and Mary Myers, age 50, b SC (Census date 07/24/1860). I have been unable, so far, to find Angeline and E. J. after the War. I believe she lived, as my cousin (now in his 80s) says his grandmother remembered her. (which suggests to me she didn't remarry, but she might have, too). James was born c. 1838. He is shown twice in the 1850 Census, once in his sister's household in Harris Co, GA aged 11 (b. 1839) and once in his brother's household with his father and brother John in DeKalb Co., AL age 13 (b 1837). We think the AL Census was taken in November perhaps in 1851, and James was almost 12 in Harris Co (Census date 18 Oct 1850) -- placing his birthday in the interval between Oct 18 and the November date of the DeKalb Co Census. I have not found John in the 1860 Census -- he was born c. 1834. John was exactly one year older in AL than he had been in GA. So I am somewhat at a loss to know where he might have enlisted. One oral tale says he went to Pike Co, MS, but it also says James did, and that was wrong. I don't know if he married or not -- oral tradition says no, but it said James didn't, so... Now there are a LOT of James, John, and J. WEBBs who served in the Civil War. I have composed a list of about 35 who served from GA, AL, and MS, even one who served in the Union forces. My problem is that I don't have enough information to eliminate any of the candidates! I have asked for people with James and John WEBBs who fought in the Civil War to let me know which units their guys served in, so I can rule those out. One woman answered me :(. Any ideas on how I can sort this out, or any information anyone has on these boys or their families, is welcome. Anne
