Dan, This is a good idea, one of my other list does the same thing and we take diff. sujects civil war, reason for moving from diff. areas. even family receipes, but we have found most usually get info about families or some genealogy notes.\ Please everyone take a look at your schools and historical societies and see how much history is being changed. These changes are being made under the guise of Political Correctness etc. Recently George Washington and Thomas Jeffersons pictures were removed from a public area , because they owned slaves. Lets face it , there is good and bad in history but it should be told correctly. Ks. Historical Soc. is keeping violence out of civil war renenactments, I really wasn't aware they actually killed people in re enacments,....... so I guess they mean they will dress up in costume and instead of having a battle re-enactment (Violence) they will have a tea party. We are fighting to maintain our freedoms, lets not let the next generations not know how to maintain FREEDOM. Sometimes you have to fight, for what is dear and what you believe. We all want peace, but we will not get or maintain peace by burying our heads in the sand or correcting history to make it more to ones liking. Just a thought and hope I haven't offended anyone. C.J. Williams
Now this is really off the subject....sorry....but everytime I go to the reenactment in Guyandotte, WV I think that there ought to be some women knitting on a porch someplace. It is a pretty neat reenactment because it was a battle that actually took place in a town. But I am not sure that everyone is aware of what the women of the era were doing....they were knitting socks for the soldiers. Many women made it their goal to knit one sock per day. So while I definitely think that it would be crazy to take the violence out of a reenactment, I think that we might indeed add some non-violent side shows. Of course it would be crazy to think that a lady would be knitting during the heat of the battle...but there could be a group in some of the down time. I think that I will take this up with my local knitting shop owner. In fact does anyone have any patterns for socks that are from the actual 1865 time frame?
