    1. Re: [WEBB] My Webb Line/Additions and Corrections Appreciated.
    2. I will again call for any hard documentation that makes the connection indisputably to William Micajah Webb or from him to Alexander. So far the most anyone has offered me is an undocumented website, or a book written in the 1800s "from an unpublished manuscript" or "a Bible so-and-so allowed me to look at" but "unfortunately so-and-so is now dead and I don't know where the Bible is now" or some other unverifiable "source." Now I'd like to claim kinship with William Shakespeare or nobility just as much as the next person, but I don't want to do it on the basis of "legend," particularly when there is so much evidence that the "legend" is false. Based on discussions with WEBB genealogy experts, Alexander Webb apparently did NOT "come to America with his four sons: John, Richard, Christopher, and 'some say William, some say Micajah'" Alexander apparently died in England. DNA has shown that Christopher isn't related to many of the WEBBs in the USA, and John and Richard don't seem to be related to one another either. As to "maybe William, maybe Micajah" I have seen a nice story about him, but one without any documentation. This is something I also long to see, especially since my own line is tied to Isle of Wight, VA by DNA. I'm not qualified to question anything from William Micajah down to Samuel Webb who died in 1827, although I will say that I do not find all the links in that --as outlined in Linkage by Jo Smith Webb to be completely compelling. Admittedly, I could be lacking some of the evidence. I do have one burning question however -- well two -- regarding the early GA John & Rachel Giles Webb -- Samuel Webb issue. 1. In LINKAGE, Jo Smith Webb shows that the drawers for the 1805 lottery include "Sam'l Webb's orphans" Who are they, pray tell? 2. Then there is the matter of a Samuel Webb will dated I think it was 1801 claimed as the will of the Samuel Webb who died in 1827. Long time to go without making a will. Even more curious, if memory serves me, that the will named a daughter whose birthdate, according to LINKAGE, was after the will was written. These two things make me wonder if two generations haven't been conflated. And I certainly don't know whether the links from Alexander back to Sir Henry are accurate or not. Now don't get me wrong. I don't KNOW that this is all in error. I'm saying I cannot accept these things with out seeing the evidence. I also realize that some of the evidence may have been lost or destroyed over time and the assertions are perfectly accurate. I welcome anyone who can give real documentation of any of this stuff I have questioned. I am just leery of claiming an ancestry I can't prove. Which is why my own WEBB lineage stops with the birth of Elias Webb c. 1785 in NC or GA and has only a dotted theoretical line back to NC and before that to Isle of Wight, VA. My grandmother Webb (nee Witcher) always told me that the famous Texas historian Walter Prescott Webb was a cousin. When I started serious research into the WEBB line, I was shocked to find I could find no connection. That doesn't mean my beloved "Momo" was incorrect, it means that any definitive connection she might have known about, or her mother might have known about (since she was the one who said so originally as I understand it), was never recorded. And thus goes genealogy --- knowledge that hasn't been recorded anywhere. Which means this may all be right, but what can we PROVE? Anne In a message dated 5/23/2006 2:49:19 P.M. 3. Ann, Thank you so much for making it a point that documentation is of great importance when making claims to Webb lineage's! That's why my Webb line only goes back to a John Webb of VA.and we can only give him an estimated time of birth because we don't know! DNA is in for this Webb line and we have connections to Buckingham & Scott Co.VA.plus Monroe,Pike and Floyd Co.KY.
