I don't know how the information I am about to share ties into all this and I know nothing more about this man and his wife. There is a marriage record in North Carolina Marriage Bonds 1741 to 1868 for a John Webb and Penelope Cale that married on 21 March 1789 in Perquimans Co. I have been collecting John Webb's of NC and this is one a NC researcher recently shared with me. I find it interesting that Richard Webb married Delilah Cale and this John Webb married a Penelope Cale. Any connection between the two couples and perchance did the John and Penelope make into the Surry-Stokes Co., NC area? I'm trying to track down a Penelope Webb and family that was in Pleasant Hill Shaker Community in Mercer Co., KY in 1808, a "Penny" Webb that was enumerated in the 1800 Surry Co., NC census and a Penelope Webb that was listed as a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church (or Petty's Meeting House) in Surry Co., NC on 14 Nov 1789 along with a George Webb. I believe these 3 records are of the same Penelope "Penny" Webb. The Penelope Cale-Webb of Perquimans Co., NC has my interest but is probably a different woman. My grandson's fith great grandfather was John Webb, Sr. of Edgecombe County, NC, and he is believed to have a brother named Richard Webb who came to Edgecombe County somewhere about the 1780s, because he and his son, "Long John" Webb are both listed on the Edgecombe County 1790 Census. Long John nicknamed Long John because of his height. The Edgecombe County, NC Richard has a son that is unaccounted for, and the Richard Webb mentioned above fits the time line. The above Richard is said to be the son of Zachariah Webb, but if I remember correctly, Zachariah Webb may have had Quaker connections and I don't see anything in the Quaker records giving me a connection for this family. The first mentioned Richard Webb married Delilah Cale and lived near Edenton in 1806, whereas the Edgecombe County Richard Webb was already living in and paying taxes in Edgecombe County, NC by 1790. He died about 1822. John Webb, Sr. of Edgecombe County "hired" himself out several times during the Revolutionary War (a teenager) suggesting that he, or his family (Not Married) needed money. I have my own thoughts for this family, but have yet to find documentation. He was also drafted for a six period. He filed for a Revolutionary War pension in 1832 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina and received a pension. His pension claim states that he went home to Nansemond County, Va., but there is some question as to whether he actually lived in Virginia or North Carolina. He was married in Gates County North Carolina in 1785 to Theresa Duke. If you have the court records for the first mentioned Richard Webb's wife, Delilah Cale, who was beaten to death by a Billups family in 1806, would you please share with me?
