    3. To Jim of Chehalis, Wa. in response to your posting of July 6th. I've also posted to this list, and you've probably already seen my postings so we may not have any connection. You listed your Webb's starting with generation 1. You didn't mention where these Webb's were located. Was it in England? I'm about at the same brick wall as you. What caught my attention was (1) your 2nd generation William Webb born December 5, 1805; and (2) your Webb's being in Illinois. To all who have probably already seen my postings, forgive me for trying again. My gggrandfather, William Webb was probably born in England (possibly Cornwall as he married Sophia Downing August 27, 1834 at St. Mary's Parish near Launceston in Cornwall). My gggrandparents, William and Sophia had at least 4 children. Eldest being James Webb (my ggrandfather, born July 17, 1834--I know--that date doesn't set too well w/the date of his parent's marriage). My ggrandfather married Mary Ann Root in Ontario; Grace Webb who married Asheby Brooks in Ontario; Daniel Webb who married Isabella McBurney in Ontario; and John Webb who married Mary Ann Nichol in Ontario. There is a strong possibility there were other children born to William and Sophia. According to ggrandfather, James Webb's obituary, "he emigrated with his parents in 1846 the days of the slow ocean passage, one child being born on the sea. They passed through Canada, stopping at Bowmansville for some months until they could send back and recover the lost address of his mother's people the DOWNINGS WHO LIVED IN AND AROUND THE THEN MUDDY CHICAGO." So, Jim, my question to you is are any of your Illinois Webb's connected to any Illinois Downings by any chance? This has probably only built the brick wall a little higher, but just thought I'd give it a try. Maybe someone reading the list will be able to help us both out. Good luck.
