At my last research venture I uncovered two more children of Henry and Elizabeth Webb. On page 353 March court records reveal -- Ordered that Letters Testamentory be Granted to Elizabeth Webb, whole and sole Executrix of Henry Webb deceased his Will having first been porduced in open court and proved by the oath of George Laws and evidence thereto and ordered to be recorded. Elizabeth WEBB alias HARRISS came into court and relinquished all advantages that she might receive by the Will of her deceased husban Henry and desires to have the provision made to her by Law. On Page 354 Ordered that Thomas Harriss be appointed guardian to Ann WEBB orphan of Henry Webb deceased on Robert Harriss and Tyrie Harriss's entering themselves security in the sum of five hundred pounds sterling for the due execution of his said office. Ordered that James WADE be appointed guardian to Thomas Webb Orphan to Henry the sume of five hundred pounds sterling for the due execution of his said office. That gives this Henry 4 children: Wentworth, John, Ann, and Thomas. However there appears to be an older THOMAS WEBB here in Orange County. A deed of sale from Osborn Jeffery's to John Alston Jr. for 458 Acres of land was proved by the oath of Thomas WEBB and was ordered to be registered. this is on page 352 of March 1759 Court Records. At the sale of inventory for Henry Webb, purchased were made by James Wade, Thomas and Elizabeth Webb, John Webb, Wentworth Webb, James WEBB, Thomas WEBB. Slaves were divided among the 4 children Wentworth, Thomas, Ann and John Webb. Land was divided to wit the upper plantation 200 acres to Wentworth Webb. joining to the above 200 Acres of Land to john Webb containing 300 Acres more or less. Joining John Webb's land 300 Acres more or less with 2 Plantations on it to Thomas Webb. The tract of Land lying on Newhope Containing 320 Acres more or less to Ann Webb. PAGE 207, A group o Baptist in what was then Spartanburgh District organized a meeting about 1796, to which they gae the name State Line Church, as it was only a quarter of a mile from the North Carolina lne. The church entered the Bethel Assoc. in 1797. .....Zachariah Blackwell was a preacher there as well as Joel Blackwell in 1797. In 1800 the Church was dismissed the Bethel Association in 1800 to become a member of Broad River Association...... PAGE 240 Joel Blackwell messenger from Buck Creek Church Joel Blackwell 1795 23 Baptized 10 recd. by letter total 137 members. PAGE 248 The first entry in Padgetts Creek church books, all of which have been preserved, reads" "We the Church of Christ on Tyger River under the Care of Frederick Crowder Minister of the Gospel Was Examined and found fit and constituted the 22nd. Day of November 1784, by John Webb & John Cole Ministers of the same faith and order." It also states that John Webb was from Fairforest. Fairforest is just outside of Spartanburg. There is a Sandy River Baptist Church in South Carolina very close to the Broad River. Another note: the 1790 Census of Greenville County SC Martin Webb 0302-0300-02, James 01-01-04, Joel 01, Jesse 01-01-04 The more I research the more I don't know. In all the records from Rutherford County that I can find, John Webb is always associated with a William Webb and a Jeremiah Webb as well as Cantrells, Joel and Issiah Blackwell, Womacks and others.... Looking at early census records this William and Jeremiah are about the same age as John. We do not find the name Henry, Wentworth or Thomas among the children of John Webb who married Sarah Byars. All lines are taking me to Granville County. My Roberts, Allens, Thomasson, Blackwell and Byars are all from Granville County, NC. These families all tie into our Webb's. I really believe with all my heart that John is not the child of Henry and that his parentage will be found in Granville County. If you find any children with the combination of John, William and Jeremiah Webb, please send them to me......... Hope your search is going better. Regards, shirley
