Hi List, I am new to the list and searching for the probable father of one of my early ancestors. On 28 Feb 1665 Jeams WEBBE, a young man from London married at New Amsterdam Dutch Reformed Church Margaret RADELL, widow of James Radell. In Court Minutes of New Amsterdam by E.B. O'Callaghan (1653-1674) page 262, James Webb and two others appeared before the court on 24 June 1665 because they "have had no tapsters licence." These two items are all I have found on James Webb in New Amsterdam. Then I find my ancestor, Aeltje Webs, wife of Syrach TITUS baptising a child, Geertje, on 3 April 1698 at Flatbush RDC (Long Island). In this record she is not identified as a Webb, but in a later baptismal record on Staten Island she is called Aeltje Webs. Geertje was her first child, thus we can guess that Aaltje probably was born about 1680. Her husband was bap. 1679. I know there were many Webbs just across Long Island Sound in CT at this time, but don't see a connection. If anyone has any information or even ideas as to who this James Webb could be, I would truly like to hear about it. Phyllis in CA
