    1. Re: [WEBB] (Webb) Book
    2. Irene -- Take a look at the www.familysearch.com list of books -- there's about 70 or so. Maybe something will look familiar in terms of names or locations. LOL Yes, I HAVE put WEBB on google. BUT then I scroll down to the bottom and click on "search within results." I don't know your line, but let's say we're looking for the WEBBS who come from Richard Webb and Mary Duncan Webb from Onslow Co., NC (I made these up so don't get excited!). 1. PUt in WEBB 2. SCroll down and click on Search within results 3. PUt in Onslow (choosing which thing to put in second is important -- choose the LEAST "popular" word as it will exclude the most sites. BUT you have to choose one that is likely to show up -- women's maiden names, for example are often unknown to other researchers) 4. SCroll down AGAIN, click -- PUt in ANOTHER term, say "Richard" [Very few Richard Webbs I have found out!] 5. REpeat until you have a full string or have run out of terms. I always try to put in some term that will narrow the time frame, too. For example, if he were a Revolutionary War Soldier, I"d put in "Revolution" or if he fought in the Civil War I"d put in "Civil War." Or if I know he was in ONslow Co. in the 1790 Census, I will put in "1790 Census." Using quotes around two words like that will search for only sites sites in which BOTH words appear together just as you have written them, not just sites with the word "civil" or the word "war". "FAMILY" is a good one to narrow it to genealogy sites -- people misspell Genealogy a lot. You can also put in "NC" or "North Carolina" but that's problematical because you might put in "NC" and the site you ultimately would like to find might have it spelled out! Or Vice versa. But you can try it one way first and then start over and try it the other way. You can put in a string of 10 words and each will narrow down your search results. I have gotten a search that started with WEBB down to about 500 entries, and most of those I can eliminate just by looking at the heading. Takes a few hours to go through them, but I haven't got THAT much else to do! Tell you what --- I'd help you with this if you tell me some basic infomation I can use in searches. Here's an example WEBB gives about 1,850,000 results Spouse cuts it to about 21,000 "NC" cuts it to about 4,060 Richard to 2,820 Onslow to 45 Another order will give a different group Webb 1,850,000 Onslow 3,230 John 2,080 and so on.
