    3. Jim, Thank you so much for the info, Several others have responded also , and I do appreciate it. If this had been the silver in the 1864 estate sale, I would have been tickled and horrified. Mother is using it. The value did not matter but the heritage did. I am going to ask her to put them up, since they were my great grandmothers at least , even if they aren't old enough to be my gggreat grandmothers. However, they are the best spoons so she says, and I doubt they will be put up. Thanks for the info. C.J. Williams

    3. C.J. Starting about 1950 my grandmother started giving the girls in the family a piece of Gorham silverware for each birthday, and an English Bone China cup and saucer for Chrismas. I cherish these, and I USE them. Almost no polishing of the silver if it is used. Grandma died in 1963. A few years ago I added to the silverware to make a set of four. At todays prices I almost had to "morgage the farm". :-) When I have a few of the "girls" over, we use the sterling and each gets to choose which cup and saucer they would like that day. Let mom enjoy her silverware. It won't break.
