Webb subscribers My wife's Webbs were originally from VA according to the TN census records. There were 3 or 4 Webb brothers that were born in VA and moved to Anderson Co TN just after the turn of the 19th century. William, Joseph and George definitely were brothers and proven by William's will. Another Webb, John was also in this area and may have also been a brother to the three. According to the ages in the census records, they were probably born from 1794-1800 in VA. According to one researcher their Father may have been John, Sr. Inquiring if there are any VA Webb researchers that have any information on a Webb family with similar names that moved from Va to Tn at the turn of the 19th century? Any information no matter how small in welcomed. Carter
Hi Carter. I would be interested in knowing if William's middle name was Julius and whether his will list's the name of this wife and children and/or the children of this brothers, Joseph and George. I would also be interested if there were any heart-shaped figures associated with the written Webb name or other records you might have. According to maternal family records, I am descended from a William Julius (I) Webb who married a Cherokee Indian maiden, named Ester. They had 2 sons: Isiah Thomas and Jerry. Isiah Thomas married Mary Moore from Giles Co., TN; they are my GrGrGrandparents who later came to Missouri. After moving around quite a bit during civil war period, they settled in Wright Co. where my GrGrandfather Isiah Glover Webb homesteaded a farm that is still in the Webb family. I would appreciate any relevant information you are kind enough to share and will reciprocate if you or others are interested. Mickey According to Edith Wilson Hutton, she did some research on my wife's Webb family in Anderson Co TN for her book, "A Promise of Good Things, Longfield Baptist Church 1831-1981". William Webb was married twice. First to Martha ? and second to Lucinda Ann Reeves, widow of Benjamin Dabney. William donated the land, helped in the construction and later became minister of the Longfield Baptist Church. William died, 23 April 1877, two miles North of Coal Creek (now Lake City), Anderson Co TN. Ms Hutton could find no record of any children by William. He mentions his second wife's grandchildren in his will. Joseph was married to Charlotte Adkins and they had William, Margaret, George Nancy, Richard, Charlotte, Sarah, Martha, Joseph & John. George is my wife's ancestor and he married Elizabeth ? and they had John, William, George, Elias, James, Noah, Nancy, Jane & Delancey. Hope this helps. Thanks for sharing the information Carter. Unfortunately, your William and mine appear to be different. Our family history suggests that William Julius I Webb came from Virginia to Tennessee, Indian Territory. It is said that he owned a large plantation and several slaves. His son (and my GrGr Grandfather, Isaiah (or Isiah as it is sometimes spelled) Thomas Webb was born 13 Jan, 1815 in Bedford Co., TN; at the age of 4, they moved to Gibson Co., TN. William Julius I's elder son Jerry and other son Isaiah Thomas both left home because they did not get along with the slaves and the cruelty associated with it. Isaiah Thomas married Mary Moore on 6 Jun, 1836. Mary was born in Giles Co., TN on 6 March, 1818. They had 12 children and moved to Missouri about 1853. Conflicting stories suggest that either Jerry or William Julius I came to Missouri with Isaiah Thomas. Isaiah Thomas and Mary are both buried in the Davis Cemetery near Grovespring, Wright Co., MO.
