    1. William Webb-Edgecombe Co., NC
    2. jonefa
    3. William Webb b abt 1766-d abt 1848 came to Edgecombe County, NC abt 1790 to live in the Macclesfield area. He had three children, wife's name unknown --a son and two daughters, names of children unknown. It is believed that he is the brother of John Webb, Sr. 1763-1842 who came to Edgecombe County about the same time. At William Webb's estate sale, the names of many of the buyers appear to be the sons of John Webb, Jr. In 1840, when he was about 74 years old, he married Sarah Sally Amerson, who I "think" may be the daughter of Isaac Amerson and Delanah Woodard. Their son, John Amerson, was a buyer at the estate sale of William Webb when he died about 1848. During the eight years he was married to Sally Amerson, he had three children, all three being under 8 years of age at his death. He left his first set of children nothing in his will, but since their ages in 1848 were possibly 35 for the son, 54 for one daughter, and 64 for another daughter, it is possible that at least the daughters were no longer alive. Descendants of Sarah Sally Amerson 1 Sarah Sally Amerson 1802 - .. +William Webb 1766 - 1848 ..... 2 Celia Ann Webb (Did she marry?) ..... 2 Malvina Webb 1841 - (Who did she marry?) ..... 2 William Franklin Webb 1845 - ......... +Martha Ann Eason 1847 - His son, William "Frank" Webb married and raised the following family. Descendants of William Franklin Webb 1 William Franklin Webb 1845 - .. +Martha Ann Eason 1847 - ..... 2 Almeta Webb 1872 - ..... 2 Malager Webb 1874 - ..... 2 Ephraim Webb 1877 - ......... +Amanda Wooten ..... 2 Margaret Webb 1879 - ..... 2 Bolden Seth Webb 1881 - 1958 ......... +Millie Ann Ellie Forbes 1884 - ..... 2 Gaston Thomas Webb 1883 - ..... 2 Sammy Webb ..... 2 Ida Webb ..... 2 William Wiley Webb 1889 - There is a William "Edward" Webb who shows up in Halifax and Gates County records, but he appears to be older than this "William Webb," and while "that William Edward Webb's" name appears to always include the name "Edward," this William Webb 1766-1848 does not use the name Edward nor do any of his second set of children have the name of "Edward." Looking for information on William Webb 1766-1848. Was Sarah Sally Amerson's father Isaac Amerson? He came here with one daughter born about 1784 who probably married a neighbor. Another daughter was born after his arrival in the Macclesfield area, about 1794, and a son possibly being born about 1805, maybe a few years earlier or later. Faye Hays - May 13, 2006

Central Daylight Time, gatorwebb@adelphia.net writes: Check out: http://jimwebb.rootsweb.com/webb/pafg07.htm I am still waiting for any documentation that authoritatively links ANY WEBB line to Sir Alexander Webb. DNA has shown that the descendents of Christopher Webb do not match other WEBB lines -- which pretty well blows the "four brothers" theory into the water. If it were just the one line, I'd suspect an NPE (non-paternity event). However, it appears that none of the "four brothers" has matching DNA at this point. Which leads me to believe that the entire story of the "Northern" and "Southern" Webbs being one big family is a construction of someone's earlier, mistaken, beliefs. And I have it on good authority (a former Mayflower Society genealogist with many years of research into the subject) that there is no evidence Sir Alexander Webb ever left England, and, indeed, died there. While I admire Jim's work in putting up this site, I feel the DNA evidence does not support the legends of the WEBB family represented herein. Moreover, I believe a careful examination of the DNA evidence would show that this represents more than one DNA lineage -- for instance, the "Bell Buckle WEBBs" (James & Mary Edmondson Webb) match neither Giles nor Christopher Webb. There are even lineages which are shown to be I haplogroup combined with R1b lineages in this site. James, to his credit, put this up before the DNA study began, and I'm sure it represented the best possible research under the circumstances. While I would personally love to be able to claim a relationship with Shakespeare, I do not see the solid evidence (remember that just because someone wrote it in a book does NOT make that "evidence") and I see much to suggest that few, if any, of our WEBB lines are sufficiently documented to make any claims to a particular UK lineage. I hope that as more UK WEBBs participate in our DNA study, we can start nailing down the origins of some of these lineages. 3. From the Rootsweb White Co, IL site, "Communities: Gray." Sue GRAY TOWNSHIP Since 1872, the date of township organization in this county, Gray Township has comprised the south half of Congressional townships 3 south, 10 and 11 east, and 14 west, being a strip three miles wide by about ten miles long, in the northeastern corner of White County. The soil is a clayey loam, well adapted to all agricultural purposes, and the swamp lands therein contained are easily drained and converted into the most fertile fields. The township was originally covered with timber, most of which has been cleared away to give place to fine farms. The portion next to the Big Wabash is broken, and characterized by the most interesting geological deposits. Prior to 1872 Grayville Precinct comprised a piece of territory almost square, in the northeastern part of White County, including a part of what is now Phillips Township, but extending no farther west than the Little Wabash. The earliest residents of the township first settled in or near what was afterward Grayville, and their names appear mostly under a subsequent head. We will name here in addition to those, George Webb, who lived at Bonpas, a point named after the creek; Joseph Spencer, Charles Naylor from England, Samuel Hallam, William Hallam (deceased), Zach Boultinghouse and James Frazier. There are two small churches in the township-Cumberland Presbyterian and Methodist Episcopal-outside of Grayville. The latter is four miles west of town. R. E. Mathis is the present pastor. Central Daylight Time, HGRACE5366@aol.com writes: Anne, This information comes from the book GOAD AND WEBB FAMILY OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA, VOL 1 by Janice K. Smith. She uses the records of St. Peters and the wills to back up what she has printed. What did the DNA test show? Rachel Well, short of buying the book, that isn't going to satisfy my desire to see documentation :) I suppose I was asking what specific records cement the John 1693 as son of the earlier John. Not sure how to answer your question about what did the DNA Test show, because I'm not sure exactly what you are expecting in the way of an answer. We have nobody with documented descent from the father John (m Sarah Cocke) in the Project, so we cannot compare his DNA to the John 1693. What the DNA has shown is that the following lineages are definitely genetic matches: John Webb III (04/27/1693 Henrico Co., VA.- 04/27/1736, Henrico Co., VA.) William Smith Webb Sr. (19 Jan 1775 Franklin Co, VA - 1836 Sumner Co, TN) Henry Webb (1788, PA - 11/2/1868, Elizabethtown, Bartholomew County, IN) Jacob Webb (03/24/1807, Tazewell County, VA - 04/27/1856) Gabriel W. Webb (1822, Choptack, Hawkins Co, TN-1913, Jefferson City,Jefferson Co, TN) D. P. Webb (1914, Dry Creek, Raleigh Co, WV-1988, Lynchburg, VA) There are some other lineages which are "close," but not close enough to call as definitely genetically related. They may have a common ancestor further back in time, or we simply may not have the intervening haplotype which ties them to this group. Anne
