Looking for anyone on this list who connects to a Wentworth Webb. I have info that mentions a Wentworth Webb as a witness in a 1741 Edgecombe Co.N.C.deed & another mention of a Wentworth Webb on a deed record in 1794 Buckingham Co.VA. Not sure if this is the same guy or if the 2 are related. Any info appreciated. Thank you Diane
Hello everyone - I am a descendant of William Webb of Bath Maine. His son John Webb was the father of my great grandfather, John T. Webb. John T. Webb's daughter Maude (of his second marriage to Marguerite Richards) was my mother's mother. I am 99% sure of the above connections back to William Webb of Bath Maine. In trying to find out definitive information on William Webb of Bath's parents, I have been looking at the wills of William Webb, who died in Boston in 1760, and the administration of the estate of John Webb, who died in 1779 in Boston. William who died in 1760 is the one who mentions his brother David of Wethersfield, his father David, his brothers William and John, and his nephew Miriam Rust. William left 3/4 of the residue of his estate to his brother John, after providing some funds for his (William's)father David, brother David, his niece, Miriam Rust, and his housekeeper, Joanna Rust. John Webb and Enoch Rust were co-executors. It looks to me like some of the items from William Webb's estate in 1760 are the same items that appear in John's Webb's estate in 1779, such as specific ships, specific pieces of furniture, etc., leading me to think that this John Webb may have been William's brother. The estate of John Webb was administered by William Webb of Bath, Maine after John's wife Sarah died. In books on the Driver Genealogy and on the History of Salem, the authors conclude that this John Webb, married to Sarah, was John Webb, son of John Webb, son of Captain Daniel Webb of Salem. Daniel Webb's parents seem to be not known. Thus it would seem that John Webb, of Salem and Boston who died in 1779, could have been related to William Webb, who died in Boston in 1760, and thus related to David of Wethersfield. In looking for David's in this family, there was a David, son of Captain Daniel Webb, who married Elizabeth Roach on October 16, 1717. This David would thus be a brother of the John who was probably the father of John who died in 1779 and who may have inherited some of the estate of William Webb. Thus he might possibly be David, father of David of Wethersfield. David's birthdate of 1717 could fit with the marriage of David and Elizabeth in 1717. This idea does not quite fit with William Webb's will saying that he has brothers David and John, since this would make either David or John his cousin actually rather than brother. But on the other hand, in his will William also calls Enoch Rust his brother, when it appears that he is actually his brother in law, so perhaps he used the term loosely? At any rate, I think there is a good chance that the families of the Salem, Bath, Boston and Wethersfield Webbs are intertwined. I was not able to find out anything at all further about David Webb of Salem and Elizabeth Roach other than their marriage date, and even for that no source was noted in the History of Salem. But it could be an interesting avenue to pursue. I'm wondering whether any of the list members who are related to David Webb of Wethersfield have looked at or come across any further information on David Webb, married in 1717 in Salem, son of Captain Daniel Webb. I have been looking for information on Mary Milam who married James A Webb. Prior to this marriage, Mary had a child by Thomas Webb buy the name of Thomas James Milam. He was my great grandfather. I had information that James Webb was a prominent doctor in Peach Tree and the family cemetery was very near Peach Tree falls. I went to Peach Tree falls early this May looking for Mary and James burial place. I did find the graveyard and wanted to share the names that I did get with anyone interested. There were many stones unmarked. It was a very old graveyard with some of the graves sunk in. It's not much but it did a great deal for my heart to find it. I have some pictures; however, the graveyard was hard to find and not in the best of conditions. I am more than happy to share what I have. On Bob Keys Website, he listed an Isaac Webb and a Jesse Webb on the Augusta Co. Tax Lists 1787-1810 , and on the Rockingham Co., VA Tax Lists 1785-1807. In his notes, he wrote that an Isaac Webb who was on the Augusta list for 1798 Apr.6th was m. to Mary Lemmon/Lemmons on 15 Sep 1798 in Rockingham Co. Jesse Webb is also listed Mar 23 1807. He links Isaac Webb to Rockingham Co. in his notes The Rockingham Co VA list shows Jesse Webb on Jul 22 1798,with note that Jesse m. Nancy Boyles 1798 in Rockingham Co. VA. He is also listed for Mar 23 1807. He and Isaac are both listed on Jul 2 1800. Does anyone know if these two are brothers? And more importantly for me, does anyone know who their children are? My Isaac Webb: b. 1802 VA ; m. Sarah Ann b. 1803 VA; had 4 children in TN from 1824-1830; moved to Pulaski Co. MO (Camden Co now) by mid 1830's. died in 1850 in Camden Co. MO Children are: Nancy Jane Jesse Elizabeth Robert Alexander Francis Marion Eliza Angeline Sarah A. Isaac Washington James Newton John A. I am looking for links to anyone, and would be most appreciative for any information. Thanks, Laura McCabe
Hi MiMi, What years are your people from Perquimans?
I was interested in your inquiry about John Webb. My grandfather and also my I was interested in your inquiry about John Webb from Perquimans County. Both my Grandfather and Great Grand father were from Perquimans Co. There names John Barclift Webb and Jr. Does that sound familar? mimi
I don't know how the information I am about to share ties into all this and I know nothing more about this man and his wife. There is a marriage record in North Carolina Marriage Bonds 1741 to 1868 for a John Webb and Penelope Cale that married on 21 March 1789 in Perquimans Co. I have been collecting John Webb's of NC and this is one a NC researcher recently shared with me. I find it interesting that Richard Webb married Delilah Cale and this John Webb married a Penelope Cale. Any connection between the two couples and perchance did the John and Penelope make into the Surry-Stokes Co., NC area? I'm trying to track down a Penelope Webb and family that was in Pleasant Hill Shaker Community in Mercer Co., KY in 1808, a "Penny" Webb that was enumerated in the 1800 Surry Co., NC census and a Penelope Webb that was listed as a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church (or Petty's Meeting House) in Surry Co., NC on 14 Nov 1789 along with a George Webb. I believe these 3 records are of the same Penelope "Penny" Webb. The Penelope Cale-Webb of Perquimans Co., NC has my interest but is probably a different woman.
