Webb Researchers Names of 4 to 5 letters often indicate the name as Welsh in origin. Wales is next door to England . The residents of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany in France and an area on the Spanish coast are the ancient homes of the Celtic tribes. DNA of the Celts has been found in Austria and some scholars now think they migrated north from the middle east during the Disporia (when the tribes of Israel were dispersed after Babylon invasion)-So---Families in England did not have two names until after 1066 when William of Normandy conquered England and gave much of his conquered land to his French army officials. In reality, we are a real mixture and trying to get way back in genealogy is almost hopeless . Thus, concentrate on the U.S. and be happy! DNA is the way to go to make it happen faster. And we have Thomas Webb abt. 1750 from Ireland and his son Alanson B. Webb 1770 settled in Delaware county, N. Y.
Can anyone tell me the various countries from where WEBB, or a variation thereof, originated? My grandmother was of "Roma" influence ('gypsies' of Czech, Romanians, etc) but her mother's maiden name was WEBB and her father's was JONES. Neither sound like likely candidates for her case. Should I be looking at her as possibly adopted? Any info or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Michelle
I have been on this list for a long time and have finally decided to participate. Is there anyone on here from Australia? I am interested in John Webb born 1850 in Kenilworth. He was the son of John and came to Australia about 1875 which was about the same time as his brother went to New Zealand. I have been told that another brother went to Canada. I am the G granddaughter of James. kind regards to all. Norma.
Does anyone knopw who the parents of a Elizabeth M. Webb was ? She married a Jeremiah G. Conn in Franklin County, Indiana on Nov 15, 1849. Thank You Mike Webb

Dear Edna: The cemetery is near Bridgeport, WV. I live in Bridgeport and have gone to where it is supposed to be, but can't find the stones. It has been destroyed but the stones should be there somewhere. Lyle Corder
It breaks my heart to hear about cemeteries like this one. Who knows how many brick walls could be resolved if cemeteries weren't destroyed or neglected. Sad. Hello Shari, My WEBB ancestors lived for a time in Warren Co. KY. The earliest record we have is 4 July, 1797 Lazarus Webb m. Nancy Creek. Lazarus Webb (Jr.) is the oldest son of Lazarus Webb, Sr. and his wife Leannah Webb, of Northumberland Co. VA. About 1785, the family relocated to Charlotte/Mecklenburg Cos. VA. There is a gap in the records in Charlotte Co. and we do not know where the family was between 1791-1797. In July Lazarus, Jr. marries in Warren Co. KY, and in Dec. of 1797 his father marries a second wife Mary S. Foster in Charlotte Co. We do not know what contact there was between the families. Lazarus Webb, Sr. and Leannah Webb had 7 children: Lazarus, Lucy, William, Charles, Nancy, Eli, and Elizabeth. Eli appears to be living with Lazarus in Warren Co. In 1797 he was about 15 years old. On 3 April 1809 Eli married Margaret "Peggy" Sandusky, Nancy's niece. Between 1815-1818, the two families relocated to Illinois. They settled on adjoing land, which to this day is still known as "Webb's Prairie" We believe that Elizabeth married Hezikiah Emberson in Scott Co. VA., and I believe that Nancy was still unmarried and living with her father in Charlotte Co. VA. in 1830. Lucy is untraced by me. It is primarily William and Charles that may be of interest to you. Unfortunately, they too are untraced. Other than a birth record for William, in Northumberland Co. VA. I only have their names from an 1894 "biography" of Lazarus and Eli. It is possible that William and Charles also moved to Kentucky at the same time as Lazarus & Eli. But we don't have any records connecting any of the William or Charles Webbs in Kentucky to our family. Does any of this help?
