The Rutherford County records indicate that my Pleasant (Plesent) Webb had dealings with a William Webb Sr, William Webb Jr., and a Thomas Webb. Maybe these were relatives. Larry, This Pleasant Webb is my ggg-grandfather. I believe his father, John Webb, was the son of Julius Webb from Hanover County, VA in the 1750"s. I have proof for some, but not all, that John Webb's siblings were William, Kezekiah, Nancy, Millian, Julius, Jr., Augustine, and James from Botetourt County, VA. I have posted this information on several sites with no results to date, Perhaps I have also posted this on this list but perhaps this time it may hit someone who can help: I am desperately seeking information on any who may be a decendent of Jerome Webb son of Addison R. Webb b: 1797-99 Ky. Jerome was born ca 1830 Huntsville, Madison Co. Alab. Here are some census records from Monroe and Lee Co. Mississippi. There are either 2 Jerome Webbs' in Lee Co. Mississippi or one that moves during the census period and is picked up twice. Can anyone compare their information with what is here to help me figure this out. I know the 1850 and 1860 Census records on Addison Webb are correct... as far as I know. There are some descrepencies in the later census from Lee Co. regarding childrens names and wives names.. Any input here even speculation might help to decide who is who here. I now believe the William and Nancy in the 1860 census listed with Addison are quite possibly the son and daughter of Jerome. Addison's wife Nancy died May 19, 1856 and though she could be the mother of these children I still believe they are Jerome's children. From her obit she had evidently been ill for sometime with TB... ___________________________________________________ 1850 Census Monroe Co. Miss Western Dist P.O. The name Webb reached England in the great wave of migration following the Norman Conquest of 1066. The name Webb is for a weaver which was in turn derived from the Old English word "webbe," meaning "a woven cloth," and was used to indicate someone employed in making such fabric. Spelling variations include: Webb, Webbe and others. First found in Wiltshire where they held a family seat anciently from about the time of the Norman Conquest. Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: Richard Webb, who settled in Brigus, Newfoundland, in 1677; William Webb, who was a fisherman in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, in 1735; Richard Webb who settled in Boston Mass. in 1630 with his wife Elizabeth. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phoenix" <phoenix@nova1.net> To: <webb@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 23, 2006 5:25 PM Subject: [WEBB] WEBB surname origin > Can anyone tell me the various countries from where WEBB, or a variation > thereof, originated? > > My grandmother was of "Roma" influence ('gypsies' of Czech, Romanians, > etc) > but her mother's maiden name was WEBB and her father's was JONES.
