    3. Dear Webb researchers, Yet another James Webb! Í'm at a dead end trying to learn anything beyond him, his wife and children. He was my ggrandfather. The state has no record of a death certificate. Would like to get more info on him.. If anyone recognizes any of the following, please contact me. He was born about 1872 in Jackson Co., Tn., married Mary Tucker (also from Jackson Co.).Have not been able to find either of them in the 1880 census for Jackson Co. They had a son, Radford, 4 daughters, Mary and Martha (twins), Vallie, and Plumie Etta. He ended up in Marshall Co., where he operated a "handle mill"(making ax handles, etc.). He died in Marshall Co. about 1933 or 1935 and is buried there. Thanks, Geraldine

    1. Re: [WEBB] John and Elizabeth COY-WEBB (Additional Info)
    2. William "Bill" Webb
    3. John and Elizabeth COY-WEBB were my 3rd G-Grandparents. Thought I'd add some additional information that might help in the search. If you calculate the birthdate of John WEBB from his headstone in SMITH Cemetery in Clinton Co., Warren Twp, IN it comes out as 15 Nov 1786. This is the only known source of his birthdate. The 1850 Clinton Co., IN census lists John as John WEB, born in NC, age 62 (some discrepancy there). Elizabeth was listed as born in VA, age 60. If you calculate the birthdate from her headstone she was born on 06 Mar 1790. Elizabeth died on 18 March 1853 and John died on 25 Jan 1856 and both were buried in SMITH Cemetery. I took pictures of what remains of their headstones on a trip to the area in August 2000. John and Elizabeth traveled and did business with SMITH and LINEBACK (LEINBACH) families in Switzerland and Clinton Co., IN. These particular SMITH and LINEBACK families have been traced to the Wachovia Area of North Carolina in the late 1700's. It has long been felt by myself and other researchers interested in this particular WEBB line, that these WEBB's may have come through KY into Switzerland Co., IN with the SMITH's, LINEBACK's and possibly COY's in the the early 1800's and that these WEBB's were close in vicinity to the SMITH's and LINEBACK's in this Wachovia area of NC. There is a large presence of SMITH, LINEBACK, and COY families in the Switzerland Co., IN census from 1820-1840. The earliest we can document this WEBB line in Switzerland Co., IN is 2 July 1825, the birth of George W. WEBB (from Civil War records). John and Elizabeth WEBB do not show up in the 1820 IN census (with John as the head of a household). We feel they were in IN though, possibly living in another household. William WEBB was my GG-Grandfather. He was born about 1816 in IN according to the 1850 Perry Co., IN census and 1860 Howard Co., IN census. He died some time prior to 11 August 1877 in Shelby Co., IL. His wife was Penelope LINEBACK that was born on 6 Dec 1816 in IN and died on 10 March 1870 in Shelby Co., IL. Penelope was buried in FOSTER Cemetery in Todd's Point Twp, Shelby Co., IL. We feel William was buried there also but no headstone was found in August 2000. The cemetery is almost lost. Elizabeth WEBB was born 01 Nov 1817 in IN and died on 15 June 1856 in IN. She had 2 husbands - Wharton CONNER and Peter SMITH Jr. George W. WEBB was born 02 July 1825 in Switzerland Co., IN and died on 24 May 1863. He married Sarah "Ollie" SMITH. George was in Co. G of the 89th Regiment, Indiana Vol. Sarah WEBB was born 21 Jan 1830 (we believe in Switzerland Co., IN) and died on 19 April 1869 in IN. She married James M. SMITH. Elizabeth, George W. and Sarah are buried with their parents in SMITH cemetery. We feel there may be more children of John and Elizabeth COY-WEBB as the 1830 and 1840 census for the family in Switzerland Co., IN lists other children in the household (by age breakdowns) but as of yet no names can be attached to these children. I too would be interested in learning the parents and siblings of this John WEBB and if he did indeed come from NC. 1. Re: [WEBB] Webb Family Reunions
    2. Webb cousins: Another Webb family reunion takes place after church Sunday, August 5, in Marion County, Hamilton, Alabama (about 30 miles east of Tupelo, MS), at the community center. All Webbs are welcome. These are the Webbs who are descended from William Douglas Webb, born either in New Hampton, New Jersey or New Hampton, New York (Orange Co.) @1810. According to family stories, William's father married at least two times and "raised up a whole new family", and by his second marriage had "four sons who went West." William himself - after many years at sea - debarked in 1842 in Mobile, Alabama. He moved to Tuscaloosa and married Louisa Boyd. After the Civil War, William moved his family to Hamilton, where he eventually died in 1896. William's descendants seem to be particularly creative, because besides the include the usual sprinkling of farmers, truck drivers, police officers, preachers and professionals, they include many artists, writers, actors, and reporters. Was this creative streak provided by William or his wife Louisa? As with all Webb family reunions, bring food and family stories. This year, I'll be taking family information for the book I'm writing about this particular Webb line, so if you do have info on this branch, please either bring it with you (along with old family photos - I'm putting pictures in the book, and can duplicate them there without harm to the pictures) or send info to me via internet at bjwebbb@aol.com Betty Webb, great-great granddaughter of William Douglas Webb and author of "Desert Noir" www.bettywebb-mystery.com

    1. [WEBB] Webb Family Reunions
    2. Dear Members, Its That Time Of Year Again. I would like to invite all of you to a couple of Webb reunion's again. The first being on the 5th of August is in beautiful downtown Jefferson, Georgia (Jackson County, just off of I-85, and on Highway 11 going toward Winder, Georgia) and is held at the Owen Webb residents, everyone with a connection to any of the Webb's is invited (or even you think that you might be), with the only stipulation being that you bring a home-cooked covered dish (if you can) and for sure some interesting stories about your kinfolk. We are hoping to have at least two and hopefully maybe some more that is really knowledgeable on the Webb's at this years Reunion. The second one is on the 19th of August and is on the Shores of Lake Nickajack (picnic area) just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee and just off of I-24. This one is being sponsored by Nonie Webb and anyone with Webb connections in Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia are especially invited. Again everyone is ask to bring some home-cooked covered dish and/or some refreshments of some kind (if you can). Along with Nonie there is supposed to be several other folks there who are really knowledgeable on the Southern Webb's and everyone is sure to have a great time or it will not be Nonie's fault. For any information about any of the above Reunions, either send an e-mail directly to me for the Georgia Reunion and an e-mail to Nonie or me for the Tennessee Reunion. 2. L.R. I believe your family may be my great-great grandfather's missing family! My William Douglas Webb, who was born somewhere in New Jersey around 1810-1820, had "four brothers who went West." William ran away to sea when he was 14, and only contacted his unmarried sister much later in life. By then, the rest of the family had moved on. We have lost the letters William wrote to his sister in New Jersey, and we don' t have her name or the town she lived in. Please contact me with whatever info you have. I've been looking for William's family for years. Betty Webb

    2. Attention Researchers with Robeson Co NC Roots! July 10th, 2001 the Robeson County Heritage Book Committee will be having their meeting at 7:00 pm in the McLean Room of the Robeson County Public Library in Lumberton, NC. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The Robeson County Heritage Book will be written by hundreds of people who submit stories on their Robeson County connected ancestors. If your ancestors were from Robeson Co NC, then we encourage you to submit stories on your Robeson Co NC ancestors. If you do not put your family's story in the book then no one else probably will, and the end result is that they will be left out of the publication. You don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar to write a story. You can make your stories just as simple, or just as elaborate, as you wish. If you are interested in this project and would like to be placed on the mailing list to receive a brochure [brochures should be in from the publisher by late July], then send us your name and smailing address to the e-mail address listed below: SAWESTGTWY@gateway.net Thanks, Sam West Lumberton, NC
