    2. Yes! That is the family that I believe he is from. I am hoping so anyway, because we are not finding him anywhere else. I have Hamby's in my line also. They are however coming in on my otherside with the Fairchild's and Shannon's. Do you connect to those names at all? Dawn

    1. Re: [WEBB] James Stewart(b1845) m. Elizabeth Webb(b1842) TN
    2. Dawn I did eight courthouses between Monday morning and Friday 5 p.m. across the state of Tennessee and up into southern Kentucky. I KNOW what you mean about so much stuff! But I learned a lot! Morgan County was my last stop. We arrived in town about 4:25 p.m. We had been delayed by a stranger who graciously took us to two WEBB cemeteries in Scott County right on the Morgan County line. We felt we could not pass up this opportunity. When we arrived in Morgan County the deeds office was closed tight. . but the office that had the marriages was open for 30 more minutes. The guy was VERY nice, but we soon discovered that all the records from the time frame when our Webbs were in Morgan had burned :( There is a notebook in that office with typed up entries for some marriages. I copied the A's W's and M's but those are listed by groom so I have no idea if Elizabeth and James are in it. The library in Morgan is tiny tiny but the gal there who was just helping out during an illness was very helpful. I would imagine if you wrote or called them they would look in the research of a Mrs. Freytag (she is now in nursing home but donated her work to the genealogical society which is a tiny room in the library) to see if they were listed. It would not be a source document but may give a date for you. Is this the family you believe James to be from: 1850 Morgan Co TN 374 374 Hiram Stewart 30 m farmer 50 TN Charity Stewart 24 f TN Talitha Stewart 10 f TN Mary Stewart 7 f TN James Stewart 5 m TN John Stewart 3 m TN Ann Stewart 3/12 f TN 375 375 Nancy Stewart 64 f farmer 100 TN Mary Stewart 9 f TN Sampson Stewart 3 m TN Dionitia Stewart 34 f TN They were living next door to some Hambys and I have seen that surname on lots of Cutbirth Webb data. keep in touch I'd love to crack this one Marcia

    1. Re: [WEBB] James Stewart(b1845) m. Elizabeth Webb(b1842) TN
    2. Hi Marcia, Great to hear from you again! Boy all of your info seems to make sense and does match up to the time periods! I believe that Elizabeth Webb and James Stewart married abt. 1865. Their first son William was born in 1868 ( he is listed in the 1880 census as 12 years in old, White Co). I know for a fact that they were not in White County until after 1870. They are not listed on any census in White County until 1880. Also they had a daughter that I just discovered named Manda, who is 9 years old in the 1880 census. Elizabeth would have been about 8 (depending on the time of year) when the census was taken in 1850. I made a trip with my family to Morgan and Roane County and did not find out much of anything. We thought he was in White County by 1850. We found out that we were wrong when we went to the Ft. Wayne Genealogy Library Friday. We kept searching in White County and came up empty handed until 1880. What an exhausting day..there is so much info to sort through! I came home exasperated and am now ready to focus on different counties. You just helped me a great deal and I appreciate it! I am sure that you are on the right track with Elizabeth Webb, it make sense. One thing I found odd though.... I cannot find a marriage record/bond for them. Is that typical? Does one need to go to the county courthouse to find that? I thought Ft. Wayne would have it. Thanks so much Marcia...I will stay in touch... Dawn Burkhalter

    1. Re: [WEBB] James Stewart(b1845) m. Elizabeth Webb(b1842) TN
    2. Dawn We have discussed your Elizabeth WEBB briefly before. But I believe that due to a trip I made to Scott/Morgan County TN in March and census I have viewed since then, that possibly I know a bit more now. My ggg grandparents Cutbirth and Susannah WEBB were living in Morgan Co, TN in 1830 and 1840 census. When Scott County was formed from parts of three counties including Morgan County, Cutbirth fell onto the Scott County side. Most of the other WEBBs still remained in Morgan County. In the 1850 Scott County TN census we find: 1850 TENNESSEE Scott County 1 185 185 Webb, Cutburth 44 M Farmer 300 KY 1829 2 185 185 Webb Susannah 43 F Tennessee 3 185 185 Webb John 21 M Farmer Tennessee 4 185 185 Webb Rebecca 17 F Tennessee 5 185 185 Webb F 15 M Tennessee 6 185 185 Webb Isaac 12 M Tennessee 7 185 185 Webb Jacob 10 M Tennessee 8 185 185 Webb Elizabeth 8 F Tennessee 9 185 185 Webb Eleazar 4 M Tennessee 10 185 185 Webb Manda 1F Tennessee Elizabeth is the right age for your Elizabeth WEBB. Right? In 1860 the family looks like this: 1860 Scott Co, TN 1860 census ®16 #459 Cutbirth, age 54, farmer and Baptist Clergy, KY Susaner, age 53, NC Mary, age 29 (this would be Mary Ann Webb Alley) Frances, age 24, male Jacob, age 20 Elizabeth, age 17 Elizer, age 14, female (also in same household) Ewel Alley, age 10 James Alley, age 9 Tennessee Alley, age 4, female Texey Ann, age 1, female #460 John Webb, age 31, farmer Julia (Julia Ann McCart), age 19 Elizer, age 1/12, female Again Elizabeth is there. You might take note of some name patterns. Frances listed here is really Franklin Marion WEBB, and your Elizabeth named a son Frank. John was another of Elizabeth's brothers. . .and she named a son John. . .though that is quite normal. The important one would be Elizabeth's sister Mary Ann had a son Ewell. Elizabeth named a son Euel. Cutbirth had died before 1868. And when the widow and children sold his land these signatures appeared (all being "from White County Tennessee) Susan Webb her mark (seal) Jacob Webb his mark (seal) Mary Alley her mark (seal) Manda Webb her mark (seal) Elizabeth Webb her mark (seal) Franklin Webb his mark (seal) That was in February of 1870 but in the 1870 census, now over in White County, this is how the households look: 1870 TN WHITE COUNTY census White Cove 1660 Webb Frank 35 m w farmer TN <--- Franklin Marion WEBB Mary 24 f w keeping house TN <--- Mary Amanda Telia MOSS WEBB Rebecca 3 f w TN Jacob 2 m w TN John 4 mo m w TN 13 May 1661 Allen (Alley) Mary 39 f w keeping house Tn <--- Mary Ann WEBB ALLEY Well 20 m w works on farm Tn James 19 m w works on farm TN Tennessee 13 f w at home Tn Texa Ann 11 f w at home TN WEBB, Susan 65 f w housekeeper TN <---Susannah (unk) WEBB WEBB, Amanda 21 f w TN So now Elizabeth is gone. Only Amanda, the baby of the family, is still living with mother Susannah. Have you any idea when she married James Stewart? I made myself a crazy goal this month, to find every one of these WEBBs in every census year. Yikes! What was I thinking? LOL Would love to discuss Elizabeth more with you and other researchers who have input. Marcia in CA gg granddaughter of Franklin Marion WEBB and Mary Amanda Telia MOSS

    2. Anyone know of these people? I believe they married in Morgan County, TN. I am hoping that the 1850 Census for Morgan Co. showing a James Stewart listed as 5 years old is my James Stewart that married Elizabeth Webb. They had nine children: Frank William Martha Mary John Tom Euel Robert Della Any one?????? Thanks! Dawn Burkhalter

    2. Zandra Pearson
    3. Hi I have just come across a Webb line I am not familiar with in Barren Co., KY. I have a William H Webb who married Isabella Crane September 23, 1856. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Crane. By 1870 William had died. On the 1870 Barren Co census Isabel has who I believe to be her son as he is still with her in 1880 though in that time frame he only managed to age 3 years! Just big for his age I guess - 19 in 1870 and 22 in 1880. In Barren Co there was basically only one other Webb family in the county, that of Hiram Webb at age 60 from Virginia. Was William H the son of Hiram? Was Hiram related to the Webb's of Hart and Edmonson Co., KY as I am? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks. Zandra.
