1. Re: [WEBB] William & Lucy Payne Webb, Bedford Co., VA
2. Dear Josh -- Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but some of the names/locations you're researching appear to connect with some of my brick walls. My gg-gf Ferdinand W. BEARD, b 1817-18 Bedford Co VA married Mary Wyatt HOWELL 1841 Monroe Co. MO. No direct proof as yet, but I odds-and-ends of various documents strongly suggest he's the son of: Robert M. BEARD and Nancy C. WEBB, married 1809 Franklin Co VA, then migrated to Monroe Co Missouri by late 1830's. Nancy C. WEBB is the eldest daughter of Theodrick WEBB (b. 1749) and Sarah HUFF, married abt 1770. Theodrick WEBB's will, proven 1807 Franklin Co VA, names wife Sarah and six children: daughters Nancy, Jane and Ursula; sons Theodorick F., Creed and Bird (Burd). Executors and guardians to his children: Jacob Webb (Theodrick's brother) and Henry T. Callaway; Witnesses: Thomas Thompson and William Greer. Wife Sarah (Huff) WEBB later marries (?) George WALKER. Brothers Theodorick F. WEBB and Bird (Burd) S. WEBB also migrated to Missouri. Burd S. WEBB married Polly E. BEARD. Some descendants of these folks are later found in Kansas, Kingman and Sedgwick counties. Again, I don't know if any of this connects, but hopefully, some of the info will provide you a lead or two. -- Candi Beard Nation Subj: [WEBB] William & Lucy Payne Webb, Bedford Co., VA Date: 7/2/01 9:59:44 AM Central Daylight Time From: jdean@concentric.net (Josh D. 2. Lyell, This is looking better and better. One family story said that one brother (or the father, we never could figure out which) worked the coal mines of Pennyslvania for a while. And William Douglas Webb's mother was supposedly an Indian. I'll bet anything we're tracking these old boys down. I'm leaving town for three weeks next week (I'm a mystery novelist, and I'm starting a big book tour - you can check my website at www.bettywebb-mystery.com), but I'm going to try to check my email from the road. I don't know yet if that will work - I've never done it that way before. But I hope to stay on top of this. When I get back from my tour, I'll hit the Mormon library that is only 15 minutes from my house and see what I can come up with. I don' t know where you live, but I'm touring through Tucson AZ, Las Cruces NM, Abilene TX, Austin TX, San Antonio TX, Houston TX, New Orleans LA, Tupelo MS, Birmingham AL, Blytheville AR, Memphis TN, Oklahoma City OK, and Flagstaff AZ. If you're anywhere near any of these cities, perhaps we could get together and compare notes. I've got a book I've been preparing about the Webb line, and I'll have it with me so I can do some work on the road. Your very possible cousin, Betty Webb

3. Hi Betty: I have a sister named Betty Webb Jones. Reguarding my GGrandfather,Samuel Webb. I have been searching for years for info. on him. On my Grandfathers Death Certificate it asked for his fathers name and birth place. His father being Samuel Webb and birthplace,Warwick,N.Y. I searched the 1850 Census for Orange Co. N.Y. thinking I might find Samuel as a lad. My birthdate for Samuel is 1833. He may have left the Warwick area to work in the Coal Mines of Pa. I know he married my GGrandmother,Olive Decker,in 1859,in Elmira,N.Y. My Grandfather was born in 1859 and his brother George in 1860. They were listed on the Luzerne Co. Census in Pa. The Samuel Webb family was also listed on the 1870 Census for Luzerne Co. Samuel worked in the Coal Mines as a Carpenter and the boys were Slate Pickers. I don't think they attended school. My mother did mention once about Blackfoot Indian being in my Fathers line. I hope we can tie are lines together. 3. I agree! Mine sits on a walnut stand, in a place of honor and all guests ask about it. Everytime I pick it up I marvel at it's journey rolling around the bottom of the ocean, across the seas (it is encrusted in places but not chipped or broken), arriving in my hands! Even if it turned out these Webbs were 72d cousins, it still thrills me that it is old and how odd things like this happen. 1. Re: [WEBB] Webb's Doublesoda
2. Those Double Sodas sure got around the world! I'd check for 19th century Chemist's shops and bottlers. This was probably a health product rather than something like beer or soda. 9.32 An early style (1840-1870) of torpedo bottle bearing the mark WEBB'S DOUBLE SODA & OTHER WATERS (to her?) MAJESTY ISLINGTON LONDON One aspect of the nonalcoholic beverage field is helpful to the archaeologist: these glass bottles were often impressed with the name of the firm which made their contents and, unlike the alcoholic beverage bottles whose paper labels rarely survive, they can often be identified. An unfortunate correlate is that this feature makes these bottles very attractive to collectors whose illicit looting activities disturb many 19th century sites. After lying undisturbed for a century, this bottle was stolen from a display case at the University of Toronto. LOG HOUSE LND Islington - John Samuel Webb mar. It was carrying cotton and wool. She was only a couple of years old when she ran aground on Beacon Rock in 1876. Seven years later the Suez canal was opened. The stories say that the Dunraven was stuck fast for 2 - 3 days. For some reason she suddenly caught fir and rolled over on to her port side and slid down this steep sided reef to rest in 22 - 30 m of water. She lies at an angle out from the reef wall. There is still a path of scrapped reef where the ship slipped. Archaeologist Ayre Keller was the first to make known the existence of the wreck. He picket up her signals on an oil sounding expedition. He told Howard Rosenstein, owner of a dive shop in Sinai. A salvage team found many artefacts, mugs, plates, ginger beer, hamilton bottles with the name „Webbs Double Soda from Islington“, sealed jars of gooseberries, rhubard, olives, unguents and salves. The bathroom was tiled in blue Delft, with scenes from the Netherlands. When nothing was found of great value the ship was filled with sand and sediment from the excavations to prevent further searches and to halt deterioration. The Dunraven Islington Community Internet Map of Islington Newspaper advertising that they deal in Local History -- nobody like a reporter to ferret out info, eh? Round bottom (for shipping colas & fizzie waters as well as beer), "blob top" (a piece added after the bottle was made, for the top), two side seams (made in two halves & put together). Imprint says: Webb's Doublesoda & other waters By Her Majesty (this line is covered w/ocean corrosion, came from a wrecked ship & ended up on Fla beach) Islington London I tried every bottle book I could but could not find the history. Also wrote London archives, history, etc. for anything on this company history, hoping for a link but no response. I understand Islington was a near-by city but now a suburb of London? Your 1904 date is beyond the date of this bottle, wh/appears to be mid-1800s. May not help your genealogy part but might shed a light on the history surrounding. If you find anything, would you please share?
