    2. Dear Richard, It might mean nothing at all, but my ggggrandfather WEBB in GA (b. c. 1785, NC and married 1809 in GA) was a "turner" which I am told could be a carpenter or stone mason who uses a lathe. Have not identified his father, although I have a narrow list (2 serious, 1 offchance and the possibility of a "wild card") of candidates, and I think I DO know their father. Do you have ANY names of WEBBs from this branch that might have come to the colonies -- as this trade was often handed down, especially at that time. Anne

    3. Pat, There was the John Webb in Shelby County !!! Here we go again - Wonder if this could be the John Webb in Shelby Co. Wonder if he could be connected to Jeremiah - I believe he married in Clark Co. I don't have my info handy but I remember some of the Webb girls were daughters of John and Mary Webb. Where did Samual Webb end up living? Was it Spencer Co. We had Samual also in Shelby Co and later in Spencer Co. Still trying to connect all these Webbs together. Just saw someone asking about William Webb in Bullitt Co. Wonder if that could be the young Wm. Webb that was living with Augustine? Still looking for family of James Webb. 2. Hi Darlene - Guess you're right, here we go again. Doesn't look like we've made much progress on our Webbs:( Oh well, that's what makes this so interesting (and frustrating). I still think that Jeremiah and Augustine were connected. Probably sons of Julius. How else do you explain how they all move from county to county at the same time. I don't however recall a William Webb who lived with Augustine in Bullitt Co. Sounds important though. The only William I am familiar with is the one who died in Shelby Co. I feel certain, given how they named their kids back then, we probably had another William around there somewhere. Nice seeing you again:) Pat in Ohio

    2. I ran across this data when I was looking for my John Elias WEBB in the 1880 Census. And in 1870 he WAS in Newberry Co., SC......married his known first wife in AL in 1874. Was in TX in 1876 and I can't find him in 1880 but in 1882 he married his second known wife in TX.... Anne

    1. Re: [WEBB] Desc. of Samuel WEBB (son of John & Mary)
    2. Claire KinKaid
    3. To Jim of Chehalis, Wa. in response to your posting of July 6th. I've also posted to this list, and you've probably already seen my postings so we may not have any connection. You listed your Webb's starting with generation 1. You didn't mention where these Webb's were located. Was it in England? I'm about at the same brick wall as you. What caught my attention was (1) your 2nd generation William Webb born December 5, 1805; and (2) your Webb's being in Illinois. To all who have probably already seen my postings, forgive me for trying again. My gggrandfather, William Webb was probably born in England (possibly Cornwall as he married Sophia Downing August 27, 1834 at St. Mary's Parish near Launceston in Cornwall). My gggrandparents, William and Sophia had at least 4 children. Eldest being James Webb (my ggrandfather, born July 17, 1834--I know--that date doesn't set too well w/the date of his parent's marriage). My ggrandfather married Mary Ann Root in Ontario; Grace Webb who married Asheby Brooks in Ontario; Daniel Webb who married Isabella McBurney in Ontario; and John Webb who married Mary Ann Nichol in Ontario. There is a strong possibility there were other children born to William and Sophia. According to ggrandfather, James Webb's obituary, "he emigrated with his parents in 1846 the days of the slow ocean passage, one child being born on the sea. They passed through Canada, stopping at Bowmansville for some months until they could send back and recover the lost address of his mother's people the DOWNINGS WHO LIVED IN AND AROUND THE THEN MUDDY CHICAGO." So, Jim, my question to you is are any of your Illinois Webb's connected to any Illinois Downings by any chance? This has probably only built the brick wall a little higher, but just thought I'd give it a try. Maybe someone reading the list will be able to help us both out. Good luck.
