Mike: So sorry about your father's passing. Fran (Giles Webb descendant)
On the recent posting of the line of Thomas Webb--the birth date is close to the birth date of my gggrandmother Lovicie Webb(located in Tennessee) Do you have the parents of Thomas or any of his siblings. Some of the names of his children are similar to what my gggrandmother named hers. Could be a lead. Thanks ahead for info. Rita C. It is with regret, but with great honor I post my father's Obituary. Mike Webb (Florida) WILLIAM H. WEBB, JR. Age 80, of Lake Worth, FL passed away peacefully on August 30, 2001, at the Jay Robert Lauer Hospice Unit in the JFK Medical Center. Exemplifing the virtues of the greatest generation he enlisted in U.S.M.C. in February, 1942, serving in the First Marine Division during WW II and participating in the assault landing, capture and defense of Guadalcanal until wounded in October, 1942. Upon recovery, he returned to the service to his country in 1943 and participated in the occupation of Finschafen, New Guinea and in the offensive and defensive operations at Cape Gloucester and Talasea, New Britain Island. As a resident of the Lake Worth area and a member of Carpenters Local Union # 130 for over 50 years, he was involved in the construction, supervision, and inspection of numerous local construction projects before becoming the Building Official of the Village of Royal Palm Beach. My condolences to you and your family!! Lea
I have a question. I noticed that your surname ends with baugh, which I think is German in origin, what does it mean? I have ancestors with baugh in their surnames. A book in the library gives baugh as Scottish and meaning rough or bad.Anyone have the answer. Oh Wow guys, thank you thank you thank you. This is it! Yea!! Last night I found a place on the internet for viewing some of the counties census records in Tennessee. (http://www.us-census.org/states/tennesse/h-tn.htm) Henderson County happened to be one of those available with the census for 1880 and 1900. I wasn't sure if this was them or not but I noticed that the Hamiltons were only a couple of houses away. Isaac's wife was Sarah Hamilton and she was listed in that family. Then I found them in the same district in the 1900 census. Now, Isaac and Sarah were married with the kids that I knew about. Joseph Lee (brother) lived with them too. Thank you Thank you Thank you!! I'm sure that the other Webbs listed in that district are related because the story goes that there were two brothers, one whose sons all came to Texas and the other whose children stayed in Tennessee. I'm going to be happy the rest of the day. Does anyone on the Webb list have connections to the St Albans WV area with the surnames WEBB, BROWN or BELCHER in the 1885-1940 time frame? Looking for fellow researchers who might be able to provide family information to get over a very common name. Thanks! Mac Webb
Lori I'm looking at your post and see several names that appear in my own branch of Webbs, but I'm baffled, because we seem to be from totally different familes. My ancestor is William Douglas Webb, who moved to Tuscaloosa AL from New Jersey around 1842, and who moved to Marion County (Hamilton, to be exact) in the early 1870s. He married Louiza Boyd in 1842, and had 8 children - two of whom were Margaret and Julia. It gets stranger. Your Icey Webb is buried next to him at Old Lebanon Cemetery, just outside of Hamilton - I have a picture of her grave. I've done extensive research on this family, and on August 5, was at the Webb family reunion in Hamilton, where I met and exchanged genealogy with approximately 150 Webbs descended directly from William Douglas Webb. I am currently writing a book on him and his descendants. Can I ask where you're getting your information? Betty Webb (gg-granddaughter of William Douglas Webb of Marion Co., Alabama)
