Hello from Atlanta. I'm researching a Wayne V. Webb, born 1885 in West Virginia, and who moved from the Spartansburg PA area about 1916. His wife, Fannie E. Jones, was my mother's mother. Fannie died from TB (I have 1917). However, the interesting thread is that Wayne disappeared, and never wrote to my mother. Sometime in the 1950's, my mother (Virginia Belle Webb) received a letter informing her of her father's death somewhere "out West." My mother never talked about the situation--too emotional. There are some incidentals which might place L. C. Webb as having once been Wayne V. Webb. While this may just be a "straw", it's too good to ignore. Hope we can come to a conclusion as to whether L.C. and W.V. are one and same.] I hope you'll get back in touch with me. Ronald C. Rice, son of Virginia Belle Webb, daughter of Wayne V. Webb. Virginia also had a brother name Richard W. Webb. Happy hunting--. (Ron Rice at TRM4582@aol.com) Norcross, Georgia.

I wanna hear when you have found him <G>!
Kimmy-- I don't have any more ideas at the moment. Don't give up! sounds to me like Louis was disguising his background. You MIGHT want to look for a WEBB family with Elizabeth and Walter who have a missing brother named something completely different. I have a WEBB who went missing in the 1880-1900 Census vacuum, and I am pretty sure he must have changed his name. I have no idea how to even look for him!
<A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~uslookup/">WELCOME TO THE CENSUS LOOKUP SITE</A> http://www.rootsweb.com/~uslookup/ Kimmy-- Follow the instructions to VA and make the request as they say (for the county Roanoke is in), but explain in your request you aren't certain what Roanoke he meant. IF the volunteer is as kind as most of them are, they will look for VA/LA/ and TX IF you mention all three states in your note <G> but ONLY ask for VA. I have had volunteers that have gone way beyond the minimal lookup when they know I am dealing with a sticky problem but I have only asked for the minimum lookup. Personally, I would ask for a search on Louis/Lewis AND A search on Walter Webb. If the two names come up with hits in the same household, you have him. Give Louis's birthdate +/- a year and for Walter give Louis's +- 10 years (since you don't know if Walter is older or younger or how much so. Anne

Kimmyann, Can't help on your Webb's (can't even help on mine!). As to the Roanoke, there's also a Roanoke in Texas. But it would seem if said for her to get help from his family in just simply Roanoke, it would seem like he would be referring to the one closest to where they were--in Louisiana. Good luck in your search.
Kimmyann: Since Louis Clarence Webb was born by 1880, try the new 1880 all name index search -- you should be able to find him with his parents as an infant. Don't forget -- spelling was not standardized might show up as Lewis on that Census. If you strike out on his name (Might have been listed L C or even C L try searching for Fulton or Robert or Elizabeth or Elizabeth and Walter. There are volunteers online who will probably do this search for you. Try TN-Census-L@rootsweb.com (You need to join the list) and the VA list and the LA list as well. Have you ordered his death certificate from Liberty Co., TX, or perhaps his Social Security Application? HAve you found their marriage license? Looked for an obituary in the old newspaper archives? Good luck! Anne
