CJ, My Webbs also moved from Tennessee to Arkansas. My ggggrandfather, Isaiah Webb, b. 20 Apr 1796 married Frances (Franky) Elizabeth May Dec 1, 1818 Rutherford Co, Tn. They had 9 children in Tenn and in the 1850's the whole family moved to Benton county Arkansas. Isaiah is my brick wall as I can't find parents or siblings for him. He was born in Ky or NC, possible same area that is now Bedford co., Tn. Frances May Webb was born 4-19-1802 in Virginia. I would love to find a tie to Isaiah Webb. Vivian Webb Latimer
C. J. I don't see a connection. My ggg grandfather was Cutbirth Webb b 1806 in KY who lived his life in Morgan and Scott Counties of Tennessee. His widow Susannah (unknown) left Scott county after his death and lived in White County Tennessee. My gg grandfather moved from White County TN to Fulton County Arkansas right before the turn of the century. The name Lorenzo Dow Ferguson sounds somewhat familiar to me. . .though it does not appear on my database. Maybe I have heard it on maillists in Arkansas? good luck Marcia
Marcia, If you ever see Lorenzo's name send me the page , there is more than one, but he is missing for about 20 years and was a steamboat captain. C.J. Williams
Felica--- I really wish I could help you. But the only Webb I have is a Lucy Webb. She was born about 1731 in Gwinnette Co. GA or VA. Her father was John Webb b. about 1701. He married a lady by the name of Peggy???? born about 1701. This is the only Webb I have. Best of luck to you. Felicia, rather than relying on information you can get on the net - go to your local library, and study the census, wills, land deeds, etc., in the name of Webb. After 1850, all names of families were listed in the census at each house, rather than just the head of household, as it had been before. If you can find a death certificate for her, at her local court - house, it is supposed to have the names of her parents, although this does not always happen. To tell you what you chances are of accidently hitting someone who knows, my ancestor (my brick wall) is named John Webb. There are 12,000 listed on "Family Search" which is the largest genealogical record in the country, belonging to the Latter Day Saints, or Mormons. Rootsweb has a good Webb surname board, also, tho you may have tried that. However, when you are in a hurry, and if you want to get it right, written records are better than the net. I have seen a LOT of mistakes listed there. I wish you good luck. Irene Webb Dorsey, NC P. S. A lot of those Tennessee Webbs were originally from NC, - for one reason anyone who served in the Revolutionary War was given land as a reward, and it was usually in Tennessee.
The Webbs I'm looking for I 'believe' are from TN and migrated to MO in late 1800's or early 1900's. Claudia Williams wrote: >David , Welcome to Genealogy. Kimmyann, in my experience in genealogy over the past 40 years have taught me to record as close to verbatim those things that you are/will be told and set it aside but never forget it is there. I was told information about my greatgrandfather when I was about 16 that appeared to not be feasible at the time with what limited knowledge I had of the family. As I continued my research over the years some of the things began to appear to have some validity to them and now, although I have not proven any of that information for a fact, lots of it seem to be holding somewhat true. Yes some of the information has gotten colluded over the years coming by word of mouth, but never discount any of those tales. I was told (way back then) that my ggranfather had a brother Tobe who was a Texas Ranger. Nearly thirty years later, after having never found that name anywhere including the Texas Rangers, I finally started finding information on a Tobe, but he was not a Texas Ranger, but a U. S. Deputy Marshall for Judge Isaac Parker in Ft Smith, Ark. As my research progressed, I found that although my ggrandfather came from SC and Tobe came from Ga, it seems my ggrandfather moved to Ark for a short time within miles of Tobe, and they lived within arms reach in Georgia for a while as well. Other ties have been proven over the years as well, but I completely discounted the story originally as a thought that some of the family were "told" stories of goodness to haze over some things that were thought to be not so good in the family "way back when". Keep those thoughts of what the family tells. I am sorry I am unable to help you otherwise, but keep up the good work, in time it WILL pay off. Ted
Ok List, I wanted to send this to everyone who has been trying to help me with Louis (which I really Apprciate) I want to ask ya'll some questions. Do ya'll think Louis's children could have mistaked Fulton for Milton? And how about one of the other boys names think it could be Walter? It is so hard to listen to the family stories when doing this, things get turned around, added to, and sometimes don't match anything you find. But I think You still have to listen to them. Anyway Ya'll help would be nice again. Ya'll have helped me find all this, so I THANK YOU AGAIN. This family is still in the same town and county as 1880 census. (1900 census lookup info)Roene County, WV. I found the following family living in the Smithfield District William M Webb 43 m.23 yrs. I am looking for Andrew & Elisabeth WEBB. They are in the census for Saline County (later Grant), Arkansas in 1850. I am sure that Elisabeth is Andrew's second wife because their marriage date is listed as 1847 and there are children born before that date.
