Irene, Age has nothing to do with not knowing how to use search engines. Google is great and I have found that it is the best in the world for finding the info you cant find. Levi Webb , however is not that predominate on any search engine. born about 1820's listed in Dekalb Co.Tn in 1860 . His son James is also listed married to Mary A. (Adcock, her mother is listed as Sarah Jones.) Both James and Mary A. died in 1862 and 63. They had two children. Mary Ann Webb and Sarah Webb. Mary Ann WEBB is my ggreat grandmother and therefore , James and Mary A. Webb are my gggreat grandparents. Would love to find relatives. Does anyone know alot about silver, as in dinnerware, On James Webb's estate sale sliver was listed. I have recently found out that mother has 4 spoons dated 1847 Rogers, Is this the pattern or the date of the silver.?????? C.J. Williams
I really appreciate this information, and am printing it out. I learned to use computer at age 71, so I lack a lot in technique. This is a really big help. I would also like to say that I believe I have found originans of my oldest known ancestor, John Webb born 1717 - on Family Search. Strange part is, I finally put in a George Webb who kept showing up in the same county. John never got me anything, but George, who was apparently his uncle, got me thru the door. Again, thanks for telling me how to use Google without reading 16,000 entries on Webb! Irene Webb Dorsey
A quick GOOGLE search. (There's that name again!) leads me to: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/silvercollecting/rogbrotand18.html As I thought I remembered 1847 has nothing to do with when the silverware was made but is part of the Rogers name. Likely when the company started. Irene, Don't put just "Web" on the search name. You would be there forever!! Put the author's name in ". If you don't put the " around his name, you will get every listing with both names somewhere in there. Rachel
Fran, Where in the world would we find this book. Would love to add it to my collection of Genealogy Books. Irene -- Take a look at the www.familysearch.com list of books -- there's about 70 or so. Maybe something will look familiar in terms of names or locations. LOL Yes, I HAVE put WEBB on google. BUT then I scroll down to the bottom and click on "search within results." I don't know your line, but let's say we're looking for the WEBBS who come from Richard Webb and Mary Duncan Webb from Onslow Co., NC (I made these up so don't get excited!). 1. PUt in WEBB 2. SCroll down and click on Search within results 3. PUt in Onslow (choosing which thing to put in second is important -- choose the LEAST "popular" word as it will exclude the most sites. BUT you have to choose one that is likely to show up -- women's maiden names, for example are often unknown to other researchers) 4. SCroll down AGAIN, click -- PUt in ANOTHER term, say "Richard" [Very few Richard Webbs I have found out!] 5. REpeat until you have a full string or have run out of terms. I always try to put in some term that will narrow the time frame, too. For example, if he were a Revolutionary War Soldier, I"d put in "Revolution" or if he fought in the Civil War I"d put in "Civil War." Or if I know he was in ONslow Co. in the 1790 Census, I will put in "1790 Census." Using quotes around two words like that will search for only sites sites in which BOTH words appear together just as you have written them, not just sites with the word "civil" or the word "war". "FAMILY" is a good one to narrow it to genealogy sites -- people misspell Genealogy a lot. You can also put in "NC" or "North Carolina" but that's problematical because you might put in "NC" and the site you ultimately would like to find might have it spelled out! Or Vice versa. But you can try it one way first and then start over and try it the other way. You can put in a string of 10 words and each will narrow down your search results. I have gotten a search that started with WEBB down to about 500 entries, and most of those I can eliminate just by looking at the heading. Takes a few hours to go through them, but I haven't got THAT much else to do! Tell you what --- I'd help you with this if you tell me some basic infomation I can use in searches. Here's an example WEBB gives about 1,850,000 results Spouse cuts it to about 21,000 "NC" cuts it to about 4,060 Richard to 2,820 Onslow to 45 Another order will give a different group Webb 1,850,000 Onslow 3,230 John 2,080 and so on. Anne
Here is the name of another WEBB publication: "LINKAGE, The Study of a Family" by Jo Smith Webb (Mrs. Julian Webb) Pub. 1984. (Lib. Cong. # 84-40401) Deals with the Georgia - Webb family, etc., as well as many Webb descendants who departed from England, Virginia, North & South Carolina ( and elsewhere) - for Georgia. Fran in SC

Secretary of State list of NC Wills found at www.thedrake.org/sswills/w.htm Webb, Anthony 1750 Bertie Webb, Henry 1759 Orange Webb, John 1749 Northampton Webb, Samuel 1754 Bertie Has anyone seen these wills or know what's in any of them? I'm particularly interested in the two Bertie County wills. At one point I had access to ancestry or one of the other pay sites, and I looked up WEBB wills in NC and there was a longer list. I copied them all onto an email to myself and put in favorites, intending to go back. Alas! I lost it when my hard drive crashed. I mention this so people will know there are more WEBB wills than these on file in NC pre-1850. Anne

Thanks for the advice. I truly appreciate it, but have you ever put "Webb" on Google? I'm 73 years old, and I wouldn't live long enough to look at all of them! I went to the Library of Congress with my little list, and they have lost or misfiled one - half of the ten books they list - how about that? The book in question defitinetly was printed, I just don't know name or writer. Irene

We don't want to be like every other Tom, **** and Harry ;-) And now since I have posted, I will once again check to see if there are any more people from my branch. I am descended from William Smith Webb (1775-1836) and Nancy Clowers (1777-1833) through their youngest son, William Smith Webb (1818-1870) and Telitha Zaricor (1811-1889). I *think* Claudia Williams is the only one on the list who has mentioned being from Webb-Clowers line (my GGGG Grandparents) and no one from the Webb-Zaricor line. Hi everybody, I got so excited to find some mention of Joseph Webb in TN but am afraid it isn't my g greatgrand father. On the Texas 1860 census it says he was born in TN in about 1806 and was married,I think, to Mary (polly) Dye. Their children were born around Nashville--Robert, Margarite, James, David, Ellen, Amanda (my ggrandmother) and Nancy. Does anyone know anything about this Joseph?
