    1. Re: [WEBB] Webb, Harmon, Shenandoah County, VA 1784 & 1812
    2. Freda-- I don't know if I am telling you anything you don't already know, and I don't know what you know -- I did find Harmon's wife, but I assume you have that. I'm hoping I have something new to offer you or at least some inspiration. Good luck! Shenandoah was previously Dunmore, which was formed from Frederick (1743), which came from Orange(1743), from Spotsylvania (1721). The Dunmore County records listed dated Nov., 1775 (which puzzles me as it became Shenandoah 1772 according to VAGenweb page, but I see another source says 1777, athird says 1778) show a William Webb (over 16) with 2 males under 16 and 3 females. Will WEBB was still in the county as of 1777, as he witnessed a deed there 25 Feb of that year Deed Book B pg 443 between Michael Nease and Cunrod Pence. land is on "Drains of Holemans Creek." Have you looked at the Old Frederick Co, VA books? http://www.rootsweb.com/~vafreder/fredold.htm What about Frederick County, Dunmore Co., and Shenandoah county deeds on microfilm? Old Will might have left the county or died by 1820. Offhand, though, I'd suspect he is a good candidate. Didn't Harmon name one of his children William? Have you checked the 1790 Census for WEBB families? I saw another family listed as there then, so I'm guessing there is a 1790 record. In 1800 the following families were listed in the VA CEnsus in Shenandoah County: 69 Web, Richard VA SHENANDOAH CO. 36 Web, Handcok VA SHENANDOAH CO. 36 Web, Daniel VA SHENANDOAH CO. Part of Shenandoah was taken for Page County. Have you checked records there? Perhaps the land Harmon (might be Harman, a surname that seems to be in the area) was on or his partents went into that county. A Herman WEBB was granted 36 A on E side of Stony Creek. (LIbrary of Virginia online searchable database -- searched under WEBB and SHENANDOAH -- you might something else if you search using the Shanado spelling, which was apparently in use c. 1777). In 1801 a Samuel Mason was granted land "on the waters of Beverdam Run a branch of the Mine Run adjoining Wm. B. Webb, William Richards, &c." Looks like William was still there and alive in 1801 There is a William WEBB will in Spotsylvania dated 1742, and a Milley Webb will in Orange dated 1768. Milley's too old to be your Harmon's mother but maybe she's his grandmother and named his father? Maybe Williamand Milley are his grandparents? There is a William WEbb will in Orange Co. dated 1783. Will Book 3, 177801801 (Reel 24) p. 65-66. Will pro. 28 Aug. 1783. p. 77. Inv. & appr. rec. 26 Feb. 1784. Daniel WEBB had a series of grants first one is dated 1801 --25 A on Stoney Creek Ridge "Adj. Adam Poke and his own land." This suggest Daniel had some land acquired prior to 1801 -- bought or inherited. I didn't find any WEBB and Frederick entries. Webb and Spotsylvania showed George Webb received a patent in 1730s in Hanover Co on the border of Hanover and Spotsylvania. There are some WIlliam WEBB wills on the Library of VA online database of wills. If you haven't checked out these databases, you might want to do so. http://eagle.vsla.edu/cgi-bin/lonn.gateway Have you gone through the Deed books? Surveyors? Tax & Personal Property Records? There might be something in here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/rwbrumbaugh.html IF you can find where these papers are now -- VA Historical Society? No WEBB in Capt' Bowman's Co of RW soldiers, nor in Michael Reader's, nor in Alexr MCNair's (these were online). Matthias & Elizabeth Harman moved from Bucks Co., PA to Frederick Co., VA in 1783. vc Also, there's a HARMAN family genealogy written in 1925. It MIGHT have something. Harman Genealogy (Southern Branch) with Biographical Sketches, 1700-1924.  © 1925.  Reprint.  Available through the <A HREF="http://tchs.netscope.net/">Tazewell County Historical Society</A>.   Then there are the many WEBB books you might look at on the LDS www.familysearch.com site. Library Catalog, search for WEBB. Hope something was new and inspiring. Anne

    3. Hi Vivian, I know this is not the same Isaiah Webb you are looking for, but my GrGrGrandfather was Isaiah (Isiah) Thomas Webb who was born 13 Jan 1815 in Bedford Co., Tennessee. He died 4 Oct, 1889 in Wright Co., MO and is buried in the Davis Cemetery near Grovespring, MO, along with his wife Mary (Moore) Webb (Born 6 Mar 1818 & Died 13 Dec 1885). He moved to Gibson Co. TN with his parents, William Julius (I) and Esther Webb, when he was approximately 4 yrs. old. He married Mary Moore of Giles Co., TN (marriage license obtained in Gibson Co., TN, dated 21 Jun 1837; marriage certificate, dated 22 Jun, 1837). Isaiah Thomas' father, William Julius (I) Webb, who went by Julius was born in Virginia, and he had several brothers. If you make any links to your Isaiah (e.g., parents or siblings), I would like to know. 1. [WEBB] Webb, Harmon, Shenandoah County, VA 1784 & 1812
    2. Freda P. Webb
    3. I am going to try one more time before I cancel my subscription. There doesn't seem to be any Webb's out there from Shenandoah County. The Webb's I am hunting, is Harmon Webb, b: 1784 according to Census in VA. I would like to know his parents. Also I would like to know the parents of Harmon Webb, b: 1812 in Shenandoah County. He was not listed in my Harmon's will, but was born the same year that my Harmon (1784) was married. I have all the other pertinant information on Harmon Webb, but his parents. If any one has an idea where I can search, I'd be happy to do it. I hired a researcher from there and she gave me all the information that I told her I already had. So unless you know a reliable researcher, don't suggest one. Freda Webb fpwebb@terraworld.net

    2. Jill I don't know if Jo Smith Webb's book can be ordered hard copy -- if so, I want one! You can order the microfilm from the Mormons through your local Family History Library. The film number is given on their site www.familysearch.com -- look in library catalog and search for Webb surname and look for the book or search by the author's name. If you can get to the GA ARchives, they have it and you might be able to photocopy it. Anne
