It has been a message to take note from even TV news warning people not to do this , even their kids , no its not really the list owners responsibility to do this , this comes from self preservation and common good sense when you all want something from some one who posts it for the list to ask for always give private data in private. Also it is a common practice for those who advertise to ask people to ask for it in private so the whole list dont have to read * me too* or * I want a copy* etc: I have many lists , I dont read all the messages on them , but this is one of the first times I have seen a thread of personal address's going by in 5 years. I post lots of warnings and advice , but its always after the facts because it has to happen before we can do any thing about it. Its not a great disaster because of web based search engines people can get a lot of your address's, but this way you stand right out in a crowd . Not to likely any thing will happen, but there has been lots of problems on the news and this is the same way kids and other folks have been a target . Remember the new telling us to be sure what the kids are doing and who they are giving information too ? Here you are world wide based, you have no idea who will use your address's for what! There was a story on the net some time back Nancy might remember it , a lady got her computer trashed and all her data stolen by intruders , when I was warned about this going on I came right away . If you want some rules you will have to think safe, and follow what you think is safe Its fine to offer some thing on the list , its recommended to ask for it in private. For instance **I have a book Beatrice Webb any one who is related may ask for lookups , please ask in private to Dan wb@wvi.com ** This is a typical post , yes I do have this book. //////// Many of us have our names and address's posted on lists and websites , many have their family and their newborns posted there too , its not a recommended practice , but lots of people do it . I am not going to say you cant post your address , I am just saying it may not be safe. Irene, I have debated whether or not to add my name to the list of requests for the WEBB family tree. On the chance that it will help with siblings here I am. I'll bet you never dreamed of the response! I thinks it's great that so many are working on the Webbs. Please put your 'snail' address so I can reimburse you for the copy and postage, please. Thank you so very much. C. Vivian, Neither Isaiah nor Zulima are common names. I have seen Isah and Isaah spellings and Zulema and Zulyma. Seems you might profit from exploring where the Zulima name came from. Zulima was the name of an opera by Marcos Antonio (dad Fonseca) Portugal produced in 1796. This man died in Brazil, so....Zulima's parents or grandparents might simply have been opera lovers. The name seems to be prevalent even today in Portuguese and Hispanic cultures and those influenced heavily by them. Which raises the issue of possible "melungeon" ancestry as well. But no need to look at that just yet. Isaiah is Biblical, so in general, you might want to look for a family which tended toward Biblical names, for his parents. Where does the Census data say Isaiah was born? His wife? Do you know where they married? Did either one live until 1880? The Census that year lists where their parents were born. I did a google on Zulima -- figuring this name was somehow a family name. It might be a sister of either parent, an aunt, a friend. Whatever, you might look around in those places the name seems to occur and see if you can find either 1) WEBB families in the vicinity or 2) Family names that appear near Isaiah in land and tax records. Here's my favorite candidate for you: Zulima LaFORCE b c 1744 m. Robert CAWTHORN. Robert's father was THOMAS. Zulima and Robert had a daughter Sara b. c. 1766 who married MADDOX and lived in Goochland CO., VA. Sara had 4 daughters, names unknown and there were MANY WEBB families in this area at this time. WOODSON is a VA surname which comes down in my own family. Stephen Bedford appears in late 1700s Goochland VA, then in TN. 1800 Census shows a Farmer WEBB that nobody seems to have connected. A P. G. CAWTHORN & a Stephen Bedford signed an 1806 petition for a bridge in Rutherford Co., TN. No WEBB signature, however. Giles WEBB received a grant between 1787 and 1791 in Davidson Co., TN. William WEBB had an indenture in Davidson Co., TN in the 1803-1806 period. Personally, this is what I would investigate first. I did NOT research the CAWTHORN name in Davidson Co., but I did see a P. CATRON (possibly the P. G. CAWTHORN who signed the petition) in the 1803-1806 records index. If that fails...... There was a Zulima Kincheloe born in 1811 -- would she be old enough to be the mother? This appears to be in KY and her family does have a WEBB connection about the same time -- Charles Rector Kincheloe born in 1811 married Mary Ellen WEBB -- c. 1835 it looks like. There was a Mary Zulima Carriere who married James Gardette in 1808 in PA. Mary Zulima Badie & Louis Courcelle had child in LA in 1848. Zulima MERRILL b 1794 NY married Oliver ROOT. Buried in Franklin NY. Children included a Zulema. In 1846 a Zulima A. Mahone married Anderson Jones in Talbot CO, GA. A Zulima DENSLOW was born in 1754 apparently in CT. She married a David THRALLS. Zulima OSBORN b 1770s (est from brothers birthdate) m. GAY in CT. I know there were GAYs who went south. Zulima COOLEY b. 1761 MA m Zephaniah CLARK 1778 CT. They had a daughter Zulima CLARK b c 1792 MA about whom nothing further seems to be known. She had a brother Isaac. She and her husband are buried in Albion, Orleans Co., NY., A Zulima COOK married a Jesse WOodward who died about 1818 looks like VA or KY. This wasn't even all of them, nor did I try the other spellings. Bedford Co., TN was established 1807 out of Rutherford Co, TN 1803, from Davidson (1783 fm Washington), Williamson & Wilson (1799 fm Sumner). "Most of theseĀ new Tennesseans held land grants from the Revolutionary War. " http://www.tngenweb.org/rutherford/history.htm Hope this gives you something to explore. Anne
Hello List, I have tried in vain to get records of David Webb and Charity Patton's children in Livingston County Illinois. Is there anyone on this list that is researching this line that can tell me where they went and maybe fill in some blanks for me? David P. Webb born Feb 9 1792 Monongalia county (now Harrison county) West Virginia. He is the son of Thomas Webb and Sarah surname unknown. He married Charity Patton, unknown date in Monongalia county West Virginia. Their Children, not confirmed birth order: i. Mary Margaret Webb b abt. 1823 West Virginia and died 1919 Livingston county Illinois. She married John H. Knight. Listed as an heir in David Webb's will and listed in the 1860 and 1870 Livingston county Illinois census. ii. Aaron Webb (my descendant) born Feb 18 1825 Bridgeport, Harrison county Virginia and died Aug 1 1910, Cornell, Livingston county Illinois. He married Ellen Hawkins, abt. 1852, Harrison county Virginia. iii. Phebe O. Webb b abt 1828 Harrison county Virginia. She married Thorton Fitzhugh. Birth year was estimated per the 1850 Virginia Census. She was listed in David Webb's Will. iv. Louisa P (Prudy) Webb born abt 1834 Harrison county Virginia. She married unknown Pritchard. Birth year estimated per the 1850 Virginia. She was also listed in David Webb's will. v. Rachel Webb married unknown Brokaw. It is likely Rachel was born before Aaron Webb as she was not listed in her fathers household per the 1850 Virginia Census. She is listed as an heir in David Webb's will. vi. David P Webb b possibly 1839 Harrison county Virginia. He was listed in the 1860 Illinois census as living with his sister, Mary Knight and was a farm laborer. In the 1870 Illinois Census, he was listed as living with his father, David Webb, as a farmer. His father was listed as "retired". After 1870, he seems to have disappeared as he is not listed in any Illinois census. His name reappears on David Webb's will dated 1887. Any help is greatly appreciated. Jill Cruse
Irene, I would like to have the Webb family tree, also. My gr-grandmother was Elizabeth Webb, b abt 1840. Wanda Childers 1603 128th St. Lubbock, TX 79423 Thanks so much.
David, Hi- my Webbs are from Botetourt. I noticed your Webb is also from Botetourt. Got my fingers crossed that maybe mine and yours are related and you might have some info for me. I have had no luck at all at finding any connection to anybody - so here goes. James Webb married Jane Claxton in Botetourt Co. Virginia in Nov. 1784. By 1795 he was buying land in Jefferson County, Ky. Settled in, what is now, Shelby County, Ky. near small town of Simpsonville. Our family been here since then. He was supposed to have had 13 children. Some were born in Virginia. My line was from (whom I believe to be his eldest son, James Webb m. Margaret Potteroff (or something similiar). He was born 1784 in Virginia. The 7th child was born in Ky in 1799. So several children could have been born in Va. The wife, Jane, sister, Martha Claxton married Anthony Kirk - they also moved to Shelby Co. We also believe that Judge Allen Taylor was related to our family. The Webbs and Kirks have married several time within the family. before coming to Ky. Do any of these names ring a bell with you? To Mickey Fletcher, Thanks for the information. With similar names we ought to be able to tie our families together, but so far, I have had no luck in finding the parents or siblings of Isaiah Webb. His children were born in Bedford Co., Tennessee and then he and all children moved to Benton County, Arkansas in the 1850's. His children were Thomas Franklin Webb, Willliam Woodson Webb, Stephen Bedford Webb, Frances E. Webb, Sarah Jane Webb, Mary E. Webb, Susannah W. Webb, Zulima Webb and Robert Isaiah Webb. I would love to find the rest of my family and hope this information will tie into someone's family tree. Vivian Webb Latimer
