Hello Louise Kay Horton Are you, or anybody else, researching Jerimiah (Jerry) Issac WEBB and his wife Naomi (Morgan) WEBB, and family in Wellsburg, Brooke County, WV? Hello List, I haven't wrote in a while, but I still haven't had any Luck with my Webb line. So I will post all that I know again, and maybe somebody will have an idea, or maybe will be working on something that can help me. Since last time I talked to anybody on the list I have found on the 1920 census, My Louis Webb. He was listed as this: Webb W.C.-head-M-W-40-M-VA-VA-VA-Engineer-Texas Oil Co. Pearl-wife-F-W-21-M-Mo-Mo-Mo-None Wilburn-son-M-W-2-S-Tx-VA-Mo-none Elizabeth-daughter-F-W-1-S-Tx-VA-Mo-None I was very shocked...I had looked at this census several times, but on this day, the W.C. caught my eye and as I looked futher down I realized it was my family. Louis Clarence Webb was born Nov. 1,1879 it seems to be VA. I can't find anything on him until 1915 when he married my GGrandma Pearl Stella St.Clair,on Nov.21,1915, in Jefferson County, Texas. He retired in the mid to late 1940's from Texas Oil Co. I have wrote Texaco, with No luck there. His fathers name was suppose to be Fulton Webb, and his mothers name is suppose to be Elizabeth. I have searched on this but nothing. His death cert has no data on it. So that wasn't No help. Louis didn't talk much about his family so it is hard to find anything to go on. Louis passed away on May 15,1955, in Liberty County, Texas. If You think Louis Could belong to a Webb family you are researching PLEASE, let me know. Or If You have came across a Louis Webb that was born in this time frame, Please Let me know Where, I have No Idea where in VA he could have been born. Thank You for Your Time.....And Happy Hunting ===== Have of Great Day XOXOXOX...Kimmyann kimmyann_1969@yahoo.com kimmyann69@hotmail.com kimmyann@samlink.com http://samlink.com/~kimmyann/ http://www.kimmyanns-page.cityslide.com/contents/contents.cfm/802155 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Does anyone have a Charlie C. (probably Clifford) Webb born c1881 in MO or ARK? All I know for certain is that he married Cora Lee Clark c1907 and they had 3 children, all born in Bartlesville OK 1907-1911, and that Charlie died in Ft Smith, ARK c1925. Thanks, Shirley
Betty: Don't know much about Jeremiah's early life but he settled in Shelby County, Ky. near Simpsonville. One of his son's, Enoch, continued to live on in the area the rest of his life. According to a census, Judith, wife of Jeremiah, lived with Enoch and family, until very elderly. I have seen it reported that she died in a mental facility but she was in her late 70's when she was on the census. Enoch married Nancy Webb, daughter of James and Mary Webb ( my line). Most of their children lived in this area also. There are several people that have researched Jeremiah and I do have some of that info. Jeremiah bought and sold a lot of land in the Simpsonville area, on the Waters of Long Run. Also in the area at the same time were Jeremiah Sr., Augustine, James, John Webb. Have tried for a long time to figure out how they were connected (or if they were) but haven't had much luck. My James Webb married Jane Claxton in Botetourt Va. 1784. Then James Webb born 1784 in Va is married to Mary Puttuff (or something similiar) and their eldest children are born in Ky. The eldest son is Allen Taylor Webb ( my line born 1808). His sister Nancy was married to Enoch Webb. Both of these James Webb's have 11 - 13 children. I have not been able to identify very many of them. Some of the eldest James Webbs children were born in Virginia and the 7th child, Richard, was born in Shelby Co. Ky. 1799. I have land records that connect James and Jane Webb to our family but know very little about the son James and Mary Webb and their other children. I have a book that has a short paragraph on Jeremiah Webb as told by his grandson, Dr. Webb. Another biography on my ggrandfather , Leonidas Webb, also told a little about the history of his grandfather James Webb. There isn't much at the court house records on the births, deaths, etc. of these Webbs. Shelby County was full of Webbs until about 1830 then most of them appeared to have moved on to other places and beings I don't have names I can't follow them. If you ever run across Webbs from the Shelby County, Ky. area I would love to hear about it. Darlene ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty L. Hi Everyone - Years of researching my Webb line has been at a dead end for some time. The following is all we know. I hope you enjoy the narrative! Can you add anything to these records? Please fwd them to anyone who might be able to provide a lead. If you have any suggestions they are very welcome!! Descendants of Jonathon Sr. Webb GenerationNo. 1 1. JONATHON SR.1 WEBB. He married RACHEL LEWIS According to the book, TheLewis Family" by William G. Lewis, Jonathon Webb Sr. was in the War of 1812. Children of JONATHON WEBB and RACHEL LEWIS are :2. i. JOHNATHON JR.2 WEBB. ii. RUTH WEBB m. HUGH BRISTON HISTORY OF HUGH AND RUTHWEBB BRISON Given by Mrs. Jennie AilesCrawford and Her Sister Emma. Ruth Webb married Hugh Brison at the age of 17 years, and started with him from old Virginia with a small amount of clothes tied up in a bundle, and some bear skins to ride on. They both rode one horse when the loads were good and when rough she would ride and he walked and led the horse. They were several days on the road. At night they made their bed of leaves and had the skins for covering. They came to some friends in White Water' Valley (White Water River IN ) and in a short time Hugh, with some other men built the White Water Valley Fort, near the site of Old Gap school house between Laurel and Metamora in Franklin County, Indiana. In this fort the two oldest children, Virginia and Hiram were born. Virginia, the eldest, born 1813, married David Weston, a brother of John Weston, who married Nellie Lewis. Great Grandfather Hugh Brison was a great Indian fighter but he did so many good deeds among them that they both loved and feared him. Our great grandmother, Ruth Webb Brison, used to tell us how the big buck Indians would come to their cabin and stand and look down at her baby in its cradle and say," Dam Blice." That is what they called great grandfather Brison. Sometimes they would kick the ashes and coals out of the fire place and dance in it with their bare feet and almost scare her to death, but when she would go to the door and call to grandfather, they would all run for the timber as fast as they could go. She lived to be past 100 years old and we have heard her tell this story many times. Our grandmother, Virginia Weston, lived to be 93 years old and was very proud of the fact that her grandfather Brison and her grandfather Webb and six brothers were in the Revolutionary War. Her father, Hugh Brison and his three brothers were in the War of 1812. (Editor's Note: In theRevolutionary War records of North Carolina may be found the names of only seven men by the name of Webb, who served in the Tenth Regiment. They are as follows: Joseph Webb, enlisted May 20, 1777; Jno. Webb, enlisted September 1,1777; James Webb, enlisted July 20, 1778; Jacob Webb, enlisted April 12, 1781; Rice Webb, enlisted April 12, 1781; Samuel Webb, enlisted August 1, 1782 and Lewis Webb, musician, enlisted August 1, 1782.) (Editor's Note: In theFranklin County records may be found an interesting story of the slaying of Kilbuck, the renegade Indian who had killed a boy near Stips Hill, and was tracked by a party of men and killed by Hugh Brison, son of John Brison. The records of the War Department show that Hugh Brison served in the war of 1812 as a Private in Captain William T. Huff's Company of Militia, Seventh Regiment,Indiana Territory. His service commenced March 13, 1813, and ended June 17,1813. This is the same Company in which William George 11 served.) The source and Editor of this narrative whomade these Notes is unknown iii. RACHEL WEBB m. JOHN GEORGE GenerationNo. 2 2. JONATHON JR.2 WEBB (JONATHON SR.1) He married FRANCIS ALLEY STACEY. In the book, Lewis FamilyPioneers of eastern Tennessee and IN Territory by William G. Lewis Published1928, reprinted 1979 by Book Mark, Knightstown, IN (Copy in my Library) The author states: "Of my grandfather's sister I knew but little. One of them Rachel, married a man by the name of Jonathon Web." Records have been found of the families of three children of Jonathon and Rachel Lewis Webb as follows: Ruth married Hugh Brison Rachel married John George Jonathon Jr. married Francis Alley Stacey Johnathon Webb Jr was among the first to pay taxes in Franklin Co., IN in 1811.He was taxed for owning 5 -horses. Francis Alley married a man by the name of Stacey who died and left her with one daughter Mary. She then married Johnathon Webb, Jr and they had one daughter, Ruth Webb who was born in Rush Co., IN on 14 Nov 1819. JohnathonWebb, Jr also died in 1819. This made Francis a widow twiceat 20 years of age. Then in 1927, Francis married Thomas Lakin and they had four children. They were Simon, Sarah, Caroline and James, all were born in Rush Co.,IN Child of JOHNATHON WEBB and FRANCIS STACEY is: i. RUTH3 WEBB b. 14 November 1819, Rush Co., IN, d. 8 April 1901, Grant Co., m. (1) HOLMAN EASTES 22 December 1836, Rush Co., IN; Holman was b. 21 February 1817, Union Co., IN; d. 27 February 1880, Grant Co., IN. Ruth m. (2) HENRY SHANEHULSER Aft. 27 February 1880. Notes for RUTH WEBB: Ruth was born in Rush Co.,IN and according to the book, The Lewis Family, Pioneers of Eastern TN and IN Terr. by William G. Lewis, Ruth's Father was Jonathon Webb Jr. implying that his Father was also Jonathon. Notes for HOLMAN EASTES: Holman Eastes was born in what is now Union County, IN, February 21, 1817, which was four years before that county was erected as a separate civic entity, his parents having been among the early pioneers on what then was the western frontier of settlement, for it was not until in the year following that the lands west in central Indiana were ceded to the government by the Indians. Before the lands in what is now Hancock County IN were all taken up, Obediah Eastes, father of Holman Eastes, moved over into that part of the state, entered a tract of land for a home and there became a permanent resident. It was thus that Holman Eastes became a resident of Hancock county. In Rush County on December 22, 1886 he married Ruth Webb. He established his home in the Mt. Comfort neighborhood in Hancock County and there remained until in 1856 when he moved to the neighboring County of Madison and established his home on a farm in the Summitville neighborhood. In1878 he disposed of his interests there and moved to the neighboring county of Grant, where his last days were spent, his death occurring on February 27,1880. His widow survived him for more than twenty years, her death occurring on April 8, 1901. Holman Eastes was a Republican, a Methodist and a Freemason. For years he served his local public as justice of the peace and was widely knownas 'Squire Eastes. To him and his wife were born eleven children.Holman Eastesis buried in the IOOF Cem, Marion, Grant Co., IN <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< End of this record >>>>>>>>>>>>> Best Regards Roy Eastes <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. Marsha, I have been watching the corrospondance regarding Webb's in WV... I have a Webb who may have come from that area though he regularly reports he was born in KY. My gggrandfather is Addison R. Webb. Here is what I have on him to date, I have spent endless hours, weeks, months, and years researching this fellow...and I suspect that part of his family went to Ohio or Ill... for that is where I find simular names that he uses in his family.. such as Christopher Columbus, and Addison and of course the indominable JOHN.... 1. ADDISON R1 WEBB was born Abt. 1798 in Kentucky/Virgini, and died November 1873 in Aberdeen, Monroe Co. Miss. He married NANCY DILLON 1827. Notes for ADDISON R WEBB: While census reports regualrly recite that Addison R. and Nancy Dillon Webb were born in Kentucky, family tradition holds that both were born in Virginia, he about 1798 and she, at a place called Dillon's Run , about 1810. The family story relates that he, as a big boy, was apprenticed to a large firm of blacksmiths in New York City and, upon becoming a journeyman, returned to Virginia to be employed on the plantation of Nancy's father. Addison and Nancy fell in love but her family objected to the match, possibly because of her youth( she was only eighteen when her first child was born). They eloped, apparentley coming immediately to Hunstville, Alab where their first child was born, and never had contact with either one's family again. We do not know the names of their parents. We know little of the Webb's life in Huntsville. Addison was a Mason. There is a picture of him which shows him in what is said to be a Master's Apron. He was never Master of the Aberdene lodge so it must have been in Huntsville lodge that he so served. An extant demit was issued Addison by the Huntsville Lodge November5ht, 1842, establishing when the family moved to Aberdeen. Six children were born to the family in Alab. Jerome, Paloma, Obediana Jefferson, Ruth R., Christopher Columbus, and Mary benton. Three more were born in Mississippi, Alabama, Goregia, Robert, William Edward, and Nancy. There are a number of type o's in this.. but maybe you can make it out... I can send my FTM webste if that will help. If this information rings any bells with anyone please let me know... I have spent 21 years on this family and am no farther along that I was way back then... Louise Kay Horton

I have another question of the Webb mail list. Has anyone done research and is familiar with who the Webb family was who settled at what is now Webb, WV? I'm looking for information about Arlie Webb, son of Edward Webb and Margaret Culbertson. My aunt thought that Arlie was short for Alonzo but not sure of that. The family was from Kentucky and my g. mother told me after my grandfather died that he was part Cherokee on his g.mother's side. I know that Arlie lived in the Coos Bay, Oregon area and moved to Brownsville, Oregon at a very young age and met my g.mother Mildred Roach while he was working for her father Frank Roach. Any help would be appreciated since I have run in to so many dead ends. Arlie died in 1970 at the age of 55 or so. He would have born in the early 1900s.
Hi Sam -Here are some Bullitt Co. Webb marriages and other Webb info. You never know what little bit of information will fit together later. My Augustine Webb's daughter Mary (Polly) married a John Webb in Clarke Co. KY on Aug 7, 1793. To the best of my knowledge they only had 2 daughters. Augustine had a son named Jonathan who also had a son Jonathan. A John Webb served with my Augustine Webb during the revolutionary war. (I always surmised they were either brother's or cousins.) Augustine served enlisted twice, once from Albemarle Co. VA and once from Botetourt Co. VA. Eliza WEBB and Clifton H. BOGARD, 31 Mar 1829 (p. 22) Richard O. Eugene was kind enough to clarify that the children born to John and Rachel did not belong to John Sr. and a second wife, Rachel, at all. They were the children of John's son John and his wife Rachel So the second list was grandchildren of the original immigrant not children by a second wife. Thanks so much for the clarification, Eugene. I am beginning to get a little bit of a handle on these Webbs-- I do have one more question. Eugene sent me the following: Among the children of of JAMES WEBB and LETTIE NELSON (this James is the son John Webb and Rachel--grandson of the original immigrant, John) are: v. WILLIAM WEBB, b. 1789. Notes for WILLIAM WEBB: Married Unknown Davenport. This family settled in Franklin Co., KY, for several years before going west. This man is the right age to be my Nancy Webb's father. Nancy and her husband moved to Illinois where there first child was born--probably....later they moved back to Cabell County, WV. They would have moved sometime around 1830 or so. Is there any reason that this William might have moved to Clay County, Illinois. Is there a chance that the Unknown Davenport could have been Nancy? I know that I am grasping at straws...but I sure am having trouble finding Nancy's parents. thanks for your help. Marsha in WV
In the 1810 Census for Floyd County there are two William Webbs. I feel sure that one of them is Kaylene's William --the William Webb who married Nancy Greene and is very well documented in the county. Does anyone know who the other William Webb was? By 1820 he has moved out of Floyd County --and there is no William Webb in Bath County nor in Montgomery so it is not just because of a boundary move. Marsha in WV
Pat my name is Sam Webb and I am looking for the father and mother of a John Webb born in Ky between 1781 and 1790. Hi Betty - I am a descendant of Augustine Webb b 1755 in Hanover VA d 1832 in Bullitt Co. KY. Augustine had at least two wives. Elizabeth ? who he married in VA, and Frances Ann (Franky) Clarke, who he married in 1807 in Shelby Co. KY. So far I haven't figured out for sure who his parents/siblings were, but there was a group of Webbs who travelled together in the 1780s from VA to Fayette Co. KY, then on to Clarke Co. KY, Shelby Co. KY, and Bullitt Co. KY. The names that come to me at this time are Julius Webb (as he was older he could be the father) Jeremiah, Sr. and Jr., James, and John. Here is an excerpt of 2 land transaction where Jeremiah in involved. Hope you find it useful. Pat in Ohio 7 Jan 1807, Deed Bk Q, pg 285 - Indenture...between Augustin Webb of County of Bullitt commonwealth of Ky and James Gibbs Jr., Sally Gibbs, Mary Ann Gibbs of Shelby Co...$100 paid to Webb...land on waters of South Long Run containing 7 acres sixteen and a quarter poles...beginning at a sugartree corner to Jeremiah Webb... 16 Sep 1822, Deed Bk L. pg 397, Shelby Co., KY...Augustin Webb to Jeremiah Webb Jun. Eugene, I feel as if we have corresponded before. Do you have siblings for your James Webb, Jr. born 15 May 1787 in Lee County Va? Or just information in general. It seems that I now have the following children for John Webb and Mary Boone of Berks County: John b. 1720 George b. 1723 Mary b. 1726 Sarah b. 1729 Benjamin b. 1732 Joseph b. 1735 James b. 1737 Samuel b. 1740 and then the following children of John and his second wife Rachel Isiah b. 1749 George b. 1750 Sarah b. 1753 Isaac b. 1755 John b. 1757 Does anyone on the list know how many of their children's descendents ended up in Eastern KY? And who they were. I know from Kaylene's information that the above second born George had descendents who ended up in Lawrence County and are well documented there. Her people come down from this George as George>John b. 1745>William b. c.1785 who first married Nancy Green in Floyd County, Ky. I do not connect with her people. But the fact that you come down from one of George's brothers--James b. circa 1737 gives me some hope that I may still find a connection via another sibling. And by the way my information says that your James was born 4 Jan 1737..son of John and Mary. The information is said to have been compiled from registers of Berks County churches and journals of clergymen who administered the sacrament of baptism within Berks County during this period. But then perhaps your circa 1737 has to do with an interpretation of dates in the transition from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in 1752....I was not looking at primary sources. I was looking at a book in Berks County. Marsha in WV Eugene Maynard wrote: > > Glenda, > I am a descendant of John Webb and Mary Boone through my > Grandmother on my maternal side of the family.
