Winnie: These are the letters I sent to Eva and Doris this morning. Doris: I just sent Eva my history except I did not tell her what counties I suspect my John Webb came to Mid TN from either Edmondson, Warren, or Butler KY Counties. I suspect Edmondson Co. will be the right one. My family emigrated to Ballard Co. Ky and the southern end of Ballard Co. became Carlisle Co. KY. in 1886. My family is just north of the Hickman Co. KY line and part of them were actually in Hickman by the time Carlisle became a formal County. I met Nonnie Webb in Jasper TN that plans a Webb Reunion the third Sunday in Aug every year. It is held at NickJack Dam area off I-24 Exit 158. This year will be her 28th. If you are interested her phone no. is (423) 942-5486 and her e-mail is nwebb@vol.com Her story is that 5 Webb brothers in VA emigrated to Ky and turned south into Mid- TN in the Mid 1700s. One of the brothers settled in the Mammoth Cave area and he has a John Webb that could be the right age as my John Webb b 1781-1890. His father was Merri Webb. Memo to Eva follows: Eva: I would be interested in trading names if we can make a connection. My family emigrated from Mid-TN into western Ky about 1854. The earliest I have them is 1811 in Williamson Co. TN when my ggg grandfather John Webb m Martha Patsy Landrum there. John Webb died about 1834/1835 and Martha died in 1842 in Rutherford Co. TN. I found her grave site at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery near Rockvale TN. One of their sons Lewis E. Webb was living with his sister Rebecca Webb Woods and her husband John Woods and their children in Henry Co. TN. 1850 Census. Lewis m Susan Adaline Halstead two years later on Sept. 16,1852 also in Henry Co. TN. I have 4 generations of Webbs buried in Arlington Ky, I'll be the 5th. I have a brickwall with my John Webb. I don't know who his parents are nor where he was born. His daughter Rebecca Webb stated in the 1880 Ballard Co. Ky Census that her mother ( Martha Patsy Landrum ) was born in SC and her father was born in Ky. Her brother, my gg grandfather stated in the same census in Hickman Co. KY. that both of his parents were born in TN. We found out this Feb. that Rebecca was right about her mother (SC) so my guess she will be right about her father(KY). Rebecca was 11 years older than her brother. Rebecca b May 9, 1819 and Lewis b Feb 1, 1830. If any of this sounds familiar to you then I will be willing to exchange names. Sam, Bingo!! My Webbs are the family who settled in the Mammoth Cave area - Martin and Merry. From 1796 both are on the census in the surrounding counties. Warren, Green, Barren, Edmonson and Hart Counties. Merry 1775-1842 is my 3rd grgrandfather through his son Merry Alexander 1831-1919; then Martin H. 1856-1940; then Alexander 1889-1972; Anthony Conda Webb 1917-1962 (my father). I have quite a bit of info I will be happy to share with you. I have wondered about the John I found in Butler Co and how he connected since they are adjoining counties - believe they may have been in Ohio Co as well. ~ Winnie

I too had a membership to Ancestor.com, then they started charging to view the census, so I took that too, and never did find the information I needed, and then had the same experience Mike did, they kept charging my credit card. Hi Guys, I answered Ed earlier about the Ancestry.com.. I don't think that I told that I ordered by mail and check. I don't give or use a credit card over the phone or computer. My daughter had her 'identity' stolen. Not sure just where or how but 2 years later she still carries legal proof of the occurrence. Now to Ancestry .com; maybe they will see this and take heed. Since before Christmas I have to login every time I try to access certain files and about half of the time never can get in. Also have had to change my user name and password several times. Will I renew? NO!! I did get good info early on but the aggravation is too much work. Go to google.com. They have good info under genealogy and give other sites and they are free. I have about 30 sites that I use regularly. Claire Loyd Mike wrote: > HI, I paid for a 3 month subscription to Ancestry.com. I had a bad experience. I signed up for 3 months, and at the end of 3 months they called. I said no thanks I'm not interested and hung up like I do with all marketing calls. They continued to bill me the following month. I called to complain and they said because I hung up they were not able to cancel my account. If they had not had my credit card and they were to call and I was to hang up, they would not continue providing me with access. I stopped the credit card payment right away. Be careful! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ed Webb" <ewebb@digitalexp.com> To: <WEBB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 18, 2002 12:54 PM Subject: [WEBB] FW: Ed, find your Webb family roots now! > Ancestry.com - The No. 1 Source For Family History Online!Has anyone had any > experience with this? HI, I paid for a 3 month subscription to Ancestry.com. Just before that time was up , a representative called me to see if I planned to renew. I told him no because I didnt find enough information that I needed. I received 3 more charges on my credit card, each 3 months apart after telling them to cancel. Maybe that info will help you. Ed, I have been useing ancestry.com for almost a year now, (i was new to all of the resources on the internet, so i jumped into the subscribing to Ancestry.com) I will not renew my membership. The main reason being, I have since found that i can find the same searches at "rootsweb, lds and others on the enternet for free. I personally don't think it's worth the money. But that's only my opionion. Good luck Joyce Enochs researching Enochs, Webb, McCoy among others:
I also am a member of Ancestry and am well pleased with the site and the constant updates. I find the annual fee far cheaper than my gas to & fro + paying parking downtown. And no more scary walks in the dark to my car when I've become engrossed or "on a hot lead" that they have to lock the library doors behind me at 9pm! Surf in your pj's at any hour. Also called in.
