Dear Danielle, On Ancestry, I found John Edgar listed as the son of Solomon Monson Jr Webb (1844 - ) and Julia Ann Robinson (1845 - ) Married to Ava Louella "Sally" Butler 09/29/1895 in Clebourne AR The family was apparently in ILL until Sept 1886 and in AR by John Edgar's birth. The tree is dated 2001 so I'm not sure how good the email addy will be but it's [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) . Lots of information here - if you wish, I can download the gedcom and ship it to you. Another tree lists him without parents and that contact is Carolyn Ellison. [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) . In the 1900 Census I find John E. Webb born Nov 1888 AR in Dist 14 Clayton, Cleburne, AR in the household of his parents Soloman M and July A. Webb (both born in IL) and siblings Willis A. 22, Clauie ? M. 20, William O. 17, Minnie A. 19 Marie C.Seinurs?32 widow and her daughter Maud M. Siblings all born IL. Maud born in AR in 1890. Hi list I have some new info.to post with concerns to my John Webb's son William who lived and died in Floyd Co.KY. I doubled checked the census records for 1810,1820 and 1850 Floyd Co Ky. There are 2 William Webb's listed there in 1810.Both appear to be under the age of 26. One is listed with a son under the age of 10 and this one fits my Webb line.My 3rd gr.grandpa would have been 2 in 1810. The 1820 census only list 1 William Webb and this one still looks like my 4th gr.grandpa. On the 1850 census my William is there with a first name given for his wife as Nancy and it included names of their 2 youngest children,Alexander and Sylvester.William and Nancy were both born in VA.and I am now thinking that my William was born in 1785 and Nancy abt.1790. Also on the 1810 census is a Samuel and Benjamin Webb both appear to be under the age of 26. Benjamin is still there in 1820,but Samuel is gone. Anyone on the list connect to these fellas? Audrey, Yes, I would love to be your Cuz <smile> I will be looking for your Webbs! cuz, Mary
Thanks for your reply - may I call you Cuz, I claim them All!!! I am interested in a Daniel Webb who married a Julia Ann (last name unknown). I am unable to find any additional informarion for him prior to the 1870. Our luck of course. Nevertheless, Daniel died at the age of 80 in the 1880 death records book. Would hope I could find a connection there. Thanks and happy hunting. Audrey
Hi Audrey, As I have been searching for my Webbs I have ran across many African Amer. families around SC. Do you have any ancestors names? I will keep a look out for them. Mary
Hi, My name is Audrey and a desendant of the African American Webbs of Franklin County, Virginia in the town of Rocky Mount. Not sure what line but if I can help, i'm still here in the county. Audrey

While DNA cannot prove your Giles Webb is the SON of Hal Webb, a match would cement your relationship to his family. By recruiting other descendants of the other Giles Webbs could eliminate some of them as being from the same family. Anne Webb Nelson
It was a surprise to find that the Webb's in Henry and Patrick counties were not the same Webb line in Franklin Co. Does anyone know a Franklin Co. connection to any Webb in Henry Co. Va.?
Our Jacob Webb (1730-1788-Franklin Co, VA) md. Mary Slly "Mollie" Austin. They were the parents of: Henry "Hal" Webb (1758-Franklin Co, VA-1845-Carroll Co, VA) who md Susanna Cocke/Coche/Cox, etc. Hal and Susanna were the parents of: Giles Webb (1786-Grayson Co, VA-1860-Raleigh Co, VA) who md. Rachel Horton. Giles and Rachel had: Henry Webb (b1823-1865-Raleigh Co, WV) who md. his 2d cousin, Lear Webb. Both Henry and Lear died shortly after Henry's return from the Civil War, in Peachtree, Raleigh Co, WV. [I have the military papers for Henry, pension papers for Lear, then for their minor children after Lear died. Published them in Boone Co Genealogical Society Quarterly.] Hal's line of Webbs came from the Blackwater region of Franklin Co, Va. Hal served in the Revolutionary War. My brother is trying to join the SAR and having difficulty linking Hal with his son Giles. The person helping him with his application tells him there were so many Giles Webbs in that part of Franklin Co, Va at that time, the info we have is not specific enough. For Hal, I have: DAR #677102, papers of Mamie Shockley Taylor, referencing [our] ancestor Henry Webb of Capt. Jonathon Isham/Isom's company Montgomery Co, Va-1792 Personal Property Tax List, Henry Webb Montgomery Co, Va-1793 Personal Property Tax List, Henry Webb Grayson Co, Va Jury records [showing Henry Webb's service as a juror many times] Wythe Co, Va-1795 Tax List, Henry Webb "Virginia Magazine of History and Biography." Roberts, Ruby Altizer. Vol.XLVI, No.4, Oct 1938, pp339, 345-6. "Carroll Co, Va 1765-1815, The Settlements." Alderman, John Perry. pp.84-5. "Militia of Montgomery Co, Virginia, 1777-1790." Kegley, Mary B., compiler [lists Henry Webb on muster rolls of Capt. Isham's unit] "Montgomery Co, Va Muster Roll, 1776-1800." p129. Family Bible of The Elder, Isaac Webb. Held in the Virginia Archives. "Webb Families of the Virginias." Turner, Ronald Ray. Ch.3, pp.9-11, "The Henry Webb Family of Grayson Co, Va." "Webbs in the Military." Deiss, Jonathan Webb, compiler [lists Henry Webb, Revolutionary War, Capt. Isham's unit] Any ideas? Perhaps just listing the sources will help someone else find their Webb. I understand there were two Henry Webbs in Franklin Co, Va at the same time, thus the "Hal" to define the Henrys. Have you ever considered that perhaps John Webb's father died and his mother remarried and looked at WEBB women marrying in early KY to see if they show up in TN when your John Webb does? Bob Keyes has been doing an excellent job on this family, but I don't think he has traced all the lines of descent down and could probably use some help on that. He's got a good start on his site, and you might be able to figure out which Webb/Boone descendants are contenders by working down from them. I think I have mentioned several times to your group that given the 37/37 match between the descendants of George and James Webb, sons of John and Mary Boone Webb, your group needs to expand the markers you have tested to see if you can locate markers to distinguish between the sub-lineages in this family group. And, of course, it would help if we could get more descendants of this tree to participate in the Project as well. Anne
Hi all Webb researchers......so much controversy about the Webbs! I am enclosing some of my notes from my earliest Webb research. I descend from James Webb, b 1725 Virginia, d 1788 Franklin Co., Virginia and his wife Mary Austin b 4 Nov 1723. Christ Church Parish, Middlesex Co., VA Birth records 1653-1812 James Webb, son of James Webb & Frances Webb Baptism: 28 Sep 1684 William Webb, son of William & Mary Webb birth: 5 Jan 1719 Bap: 31 Jan 1719 Elizabeth Webb Daughter of James & Frances Webb Bapt: 21 Aug 1681 Some more notes: John Webb was in Virginia before 1686. John owned land in New Kent County, and Henrico County, evidently near the border of the two counties as he attended St. Peters Parish of New Kent County. Some of his children's births were recorded in the Parish Record. He wrote his will 6 July 1726. Kelly Webb writes: The first record of our family being in VA is with a deed in Henrico County from Wm. Hobson to John Webb 1-24-1686. Four years later John Webb sells 150 acres of this land to Richard Cocke. John's wife, Sarah signs releasing dower rights 9-20-1689, Witness, Richard Cocke, Jr. & Thomas Cocke. In April 1709 Wm. Cocke of Henrico County sold to Edward Moseby 135 acres North of James River for 2840 pounds of Tobacco. This was next to land sold to John Webb. Anne I've been pulling lots of information on the Franklin County, Virginis Webb's for the past two years have stacks and stacks of printed out info (got to get it organized). I'm a member of the WEBB DNA project, one of the four who has connected William Smith Webb. I've made contact with a man who lives in Virginia and is a descendant from that Webb line (his mother's side), he is my eyes in Virginia, and we are sharing what we find. Theodorick Webb - died Franklin County, VA, will probated Sept. 1807 looks to be the son of Cuthbert Webb, son of John Webb (1694-1736). His son Theodorick married Nancy Calloway and when she died he married Julia Patterson Wade, widow of Henry Wade. I have found them all on census records etc. I'm beginning to believe that each of John Webb's son, named a son Theodorick....and my Gabriel Webb (1822-1913) of Hawkins County, TN., is more than likely a son of one of one of his brothers...have established which one yet. My grandmother always told us that we were related to Loretta Lynn, however I can't find the connect as yet, she stated that my father and his two brothers were cousins to her....don't know if she meant direct cousin or distant. I would love to see some of the documentation on that Webb lineage. Wanda

Not sure of the year he was born, but taking a guess at it,I would say bet.1740-1760. We know that he had a son William Webb that settled in Floyd Co.KY. We have documented sources to support our lineage back to William Webb b.abt.1780 d.1859 Floyd Co.KY.and that his father's name was John. Would love to hear from folks that (don't have documented sources) on their John Webb's within their lineages. Past research had our Webb line has being descendents of the John Webb and Mary Boone line, but we now know, through DNA,that we are not blood related to that line. DNA has matched us with 4 others. 2 of those matches have their Webb lines coming out of Buckingham Co.VA.,1 with his Webb line coming out of Scott Co.VA.and the other with their Webb line coming out of the eastern part of KY.which appears to be a close connection to the Loretta Webb Lynn line. OOPS!!! I hit the wrong key! Regarding the message below: [X-Message: #2 Date: Sun, 17 Jul 2005 20:45:39 -0700 From: Marilyn & Tom Chilton <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [WEBB] Richard Henry Webb Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I think we may have corresponded before. Anyway, thank you for writing. I wish I could prove that Richard Henry Webb was a son of Richard Daron Webb, but there is a list of Richard D's children in the "History of Piatt County", published in 1883, and Richard H. is not among them. I am quite certain that they are related, but I don't think that Richard H is a son od Richard D. I would be happy to discuss this with you further if you like. My number is 916-933-6576, or I will be happy to call you if you would give me your number. My lineage is: Thomas H. Chilton, Jr. (1934- ) Thomas Chilton (1906-1980) m Ruth Webb (1910-1985) Leonard Webb (1878-1950) Richard Henry Webb (1839-1894) } I am descended from Richard Daron Webb and I am convinced that Richard H Webb is not the son of Richard Daron Webb. Instead, I have determined that Richard H. Webb is the son of James Webb and Eulila ? . Their children were, as far as I can determine: A. James VanVert b. 22 Nov 1829 in Louisville, Jefferson Co. Ky. (This is from his obiturary) He married Cynthia Isabel Haggard 1 Jan 1854 in Dewitt Co. IL (Dewitt Co. marriage record A117). James V. Died 28 Feb 1914 and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Farmer City, Dewitt Co., IL. (Maple Grove Cemetery is located on Richard Daron Webb's original farm) . B. Preston b. 3 June 1834 married Elizabeth Lyons 2 Sept 1858 in Piatt Co., Il ( Piatt Co. marriage record A:19) He died 19 Nov 1909 C. Hezekiah was born abt 1837, married 30 Sept 1858 in Macoupin Co, IL (record 3203) D. Richard Henry b. 15 Oct 1840 Farmer City, Dewitt Co., IL Married Lydia Miranda Irwin 23 Dec 1862. Died Dec 1894 and is burried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Farmer City, IL. There were three more childen but their name are unknown. Since they are not in my direct line, I have not done extensive research on this line. I do agree that Richard Daron and Richard H Webb are probably related in some way, but I have not been able to determine how. Champaign, Piatt and Dewitt Cos. are closely located. Since Richard Daron was one of the middle children of James and Jane Claxton Webb, James (Richard H's father) could possibly be the son of one of Richard D;s older brothers. There was a Preston Webb who were one of the founding members of the Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant (Now Farmer City). Perhaps this Preston was the father of James who was the father of Richard H. There were additional Webbs from Shelby Co., Ky in western Champaign Co., Il. and who were also founding members of the Baptist church which moved to Mahomet Il in Champaign Co. These were John who died in 18(2)8 (The 2 is not clear) and was buried in Bryant Cemetery, Mahomet, Champaign Co., IL..Catherine Webb who may or may not have been John's wife. She had five children that I know of: John A -m Sarah June Brown; James -m Rhoda Crabtree; George Webb; Nancy Jane -m ? Harlan. Also buried in Bryant cemetery was a Joseph Webb b 1809 in Ky died in 1846 -m Alsinda Walter. She died about the same time as Joseph leaving 5 young children. There was also a Levi Webb. Another founding members of the Baptist church was Rev. John G Robinson who was married to Martha B Webb. She was born cir 17 July 1793 in Va. and died 17 Oct 1855 in Mahomet, IL. Martha and John Robinson were from Shelby Co. Ky. As you see, there are many Webbs who were located close to one another who were probably related. I have a lot of miscelaneous info about these people, but little to prove their connections. Lynda L. Wirth - call if you want to hash all this out. 217-892-5607
