1. My direct line is from Elias and Mary Ann "Nancy" Maynor Webb, married 05/04/1809 in Jefferson Co, GA At this point, we are missing information on their daughter Elizabeth b 1838. She is not with her father or siblings in 1850, and we don't know who she married. We do have mtDNA of her sisters for comparison. A highly unusual difference from CRS means a match is virtual proof of her parentage! 2. Also of interest, Stephen and Ann Webb from Edgecombe, Nash Co, NC to Jefferson Co, GA. Looking to find a documented male descendant (even a name of a definite son of his) Stephen died c. 1819. 3. Rice and Mary Webb -- from Franklin Co, NC 1790 to Jefferson Co, GA to Henry Co, AL. Looking for a documented son of this line too. 4. Wylly/Wylie/Willy Webb of Jefferson Co, GA, Crawford Co, GA, Macon GA and Dooly Co, GA [bleieved to be son of Stephen and Ann above 5. Stephen Webb b NC in TN until 1820s then McLean Co, IL 6. In a message dated 8/1/2005 6:49:35 A.M. Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: William Douglas Webb, born somewhere in New Jersey (possibly New Hampton, possibly Cape May) @1813 to White father, Indian mother. Ran away from home, @1827, leaving behind "a bunch of sisters, and four brothers who "went West." His father "married again and raised up a whole new family." ::Cursing the loss of 1810 & 1820 NJ census records:: OK Mary, just for you, an August idea (as you know I have been trying to recruit WEBBs from the Eastern Shore to the DNA Project (so far without luck). So now I'm trying to see if we can narrow down the candidate families in the 1830 NJ Census based on the blurb above. OK If William Douglas left home in 1827 the household in the 1827 Census should have "4 brothers" and a "bunch" of sisters and probably the oldest would be 15/20 and the youngest could be any age. Nor do we know if all of them were still at home in 1830 or had married. Nevertheless we should be able to eliminate households where the parents have only children in the 0-10 range and are too young to be William's father & mother. The "whole new family" we will deal with in a minute. I recall that after you last posted, I gave you some men from the 1850 Census in "the West" who were born in NJ.] Perhaps you can track some of them back to one of the candidate families? Hope this helps you in some way.

If I find a descendant of "Male/Female Webb," I make a note in the Sources section, w/that person's name, email address and "descendant of X Webb." I always review my sources as I search, so I gather a list of others researching the same line. Before I send any trees or gedcoms out, I go thru it and delete all "Family researcher and descendant(s) of" listed. I do a Search and Replace. Before I used this method, I have a Rolodex beside my computer in case of hurricane or the computer melts. I have different cards for family names: Webb, Dickens, Brown, etc. On each card, I write the name and email of my contact searching that name line. Roll call is a good idea. Many lists do this. Sounds like a good idea to me, Mary... Here's my Webb line, such as it is. I have one heckufa brick wall. My gg-grandfather was William Douglas Webb, born somewhere in New Jersey (possibly New Hampton, possibly Cape May) @1813 to White father, Indian mother. Ran away from home, @1827, leaving behind "a bunch of sisters, and four brothers who "went West." His father "married again and raised up a whole new family." He finally quit the sea in 1842 when he married Louisa H. Boyd, in Tuscaloosa, AL. After the Civil War, they moved to Marion County, Alabama, with their eight children. William Douglas Webb is my brick wall (along with Louisa), and I am desperately trying to find his New Jersey parents. William Douglas Webb and Louisa Boyd Webb had the following children (all born in Tuscaloosa), most died in or near Marion County, AL. Robert Anderson Webb, b 1844, d 1927 (Confederate soldier, was with Lee at Appamatox) Margarette Webb, b 1846, d unknown Lindsey Webb, b 1847, d 1933 James Abner Webb, b 1850, d unknown Jacob Douglas Webb, b 1861, d 1949 (my g-grandfather) Melvin Jasper Webb, b 1865, d 1957 Rebecca Webb, b unknown, d unknown Julie Webb, b unknown, d unknown Any help tracking down William Douglas Webb's parents would be greatly appreciated. Hello, I have thought long and hard about this letter but feel I must write it. We all have the same common goal in mind on this list and that is finding our ancestors. I would like to propose two things. One being that we have a roll call maybe monthly so newcomers and the old subscribers will have a chance to actually read the names, dates, and places that we are researching. With this being done we could help one another. That is what this list is all about in the first place. I have been on this list for about 10 years and it has changed too much. People used to try and help people. Now, it seems when anyone posts it is ignored. I have had a few on this list tell me this privately. The second suggestion I highly recommend is that we all keep a note pad by our computers and when we see a post that even remotely may seem to be a connection, then please stick the note close by for when you are doing your research. I have done this and I feel I will make more connections this way. I enjoy helping others. Isn't that what we are supposed to do? Today is August 1 so we could post our information on the first of each month. Please take my suggestions seriously, we all can benefit from this. After all, somehow and someway we are all related. We all were created by the GREAT CREATOR! Respectfully yours, Mary Wyatt (ggg-grand-daughter of Charles Webb and Catherine Stribling) I have already posted all my information not ONE reply from anyone!
