Hi, I have most of what I know about my Webb line at: http://home.pacbell.net/gardm/jameswebbbio.html Ol' James headed to Calif. in 1854 with a passel of kids and lived out most of his life in the San Joaquin Valley. Interesting. Any info on where or when James S. Webb was in Kentucky & where his son Jordon was born? Perhaps, Sam Webb, whose John was also born possibly in KY might be interested also. Hi, Marlene. Pleased to see a message from a UK researcher! My Webbs were from Kilkenny, Glos., then moved to Sherston, Wilts. For a while I assumed that the Kilkenny was in Ireland! My gg and g grandfathers were both called John Webb. Little is known about the former (he was the Kilkenny one) but I know quite a bit about his son, my great grandfather. That John (Smith) Webb married a Kate Wilcox, of Sherston, but they moved to South Wales for work in the late 1800s. Both Johns worked on the Easton Grey estate, as grooms, I believe. Would be happy to share information with anyone who thinks they have links. Actually, R Kemp (I wonder if we are kin) is correct. A properly done Roll Call would never have subject lines like "Roll Call" "My Webbs" or "Calling All Webbs". It should always be like "Webb, firstname here. location, date" or as much of this info as the writer has. On many, if not most, Rootsweb surname lists this is a rule. On those where it is not a rule it still should be done this way as a common courtesy and for much better efficiency on getting the proper list members together with those who they can help. BTW, it's also a rule on most, and I believe it either is or was on this one, that only the list owner is allowed to call for a Roll Call and that he always gives a couple of days warning before doing so. Some people need warning to do a stop mail on their subscription if their mailbox is too small to handle the large volume of mail usually created, and others like myself like to set up a special folder before it starts so that all emails from this individual list are automatically downloaded there separately from other emails to make them easier to sift through all the onslaught of email. Most of us who are serious with our research are on many many lists and get far too many emails to open and read every one. (I am on over 100 lists and get several hundred emails per day) We skim the subject lines and open the ones which look like they may be connected. Those like the samples above will get deleted unread and we have possibly missed the chance to either help someone else or to have them help us, simply because they did not use a proper subject line. Much LESS information gets shared when it is done the way many of these are being done. Tim Kemp Descended from Edmond and Elizabeth Webb whose daughter Elizabeth married Robert Kemp July 06, 1678 in Talbot County, Maryland Does anyone have any of their ancestory? I have nothing on Edmond and Elizabeth other than the one daughter Elizabeth. Hi-I'm new to this list. This is the first message I have received since signing up. Mary, what a wonderful idea, posting each of our Webb family members. My cousin researched the Hancock family the old fashioned way (before computers) by going to each court house, Church, etc., back in the 1960-70's. I don't know her source for finding Anna Webb, but will post her information here. Then I found her in FamilySearch.org with a birth date of 1696. She has several ancestors listed there, going back to Henry Webb, b.15 May 1350, Warwickshire, England. It would be easier to go to the site for it all. Here's what I have from my cousin, then her parents and siblings from the above mentioned LDS site. Anna Webb b. WFT Est. 1679-1702, in Springfield, Hampden, Ma, (In LDS: 24 Feb 1696) d. July 6, 1771 Father: John Webb Mother: Hannah Basset Married: November 19, 1713 in Springfield, Mass. Husband: John Hancock b. Aug 1, 1688 in Springfield, Mass. d. July 10, 1775, Springfield, Mass. Her family per FamilySearch.org John Webb b. June 8, 1667, in Saybrook, Middlesex, Ct. d. Jan 27, 1710-1711, Springfield, (Hampshire), now Hampden, Mass. Father: John Webb Mother: Susanna Cunliffe (Other spouses: Ruth Graves, Bethiah Adams) Married: 1693 Wife: Hannah Basset, b. 1674, Of Northampton, Hampshire, Mass., d. Sep 11, 1719, Northampton, Hampshire, Mass. Children of John and Anna Webb Hancock: 1. Anna Webb (see above) 2. Cornelius Webb, b. Bet 1694-1695 in Northampton, Hampshire, Mass., d. June 7, 1777 3. Ebenezer Webb, b. Feb 2, 1700-1701, Springfield, Hampshire, Mass., d. Aug 1747 4. Sarah Webb, b. Mar 21, 1702-1703, Springfield, Hampshire, Mass. Hello Edna!!! I would love to have what you can share about your Webb line going back to William and Mary Polly Oney. Both of our Webb lines have ties to Russell/Scott Co.VA. We have 1 DNA match coming out of Scott Co.VA.and we feel strongly that he is a brother to my William Webb b.1780/85. Would love to know if there has been a DNA submission from your Webb line? Ruffin Webb is my g-g-grandfather. He was first married to Harriett E. Robinson in Mississippi about 1850. I believe they had a son, Jasper, age 10, who was in the 1860 Lowndes Co., MS census in Ruffin and the second wife, Martha's household. Ruffin married Martha Ussery on 2 Jul 1856 in Lowndes Co., MS. I descend through his daughter, Zoe, b. 1866, who married Nathaniel M. "Bud" Stockton. Ruffin is one of my brick walls. Anne Stockton O'Neal [email protected]
Most of my basic data came from the IGI on line and my local FHC. Cuz'n Alan
That's what I'm working on now. I'm checking with the DAR and other lists, I believe he served as a Judge therefore the "PS" designation. Currently Not Proven. Cuz'n Alan
Yes, Becky that is my line. As to data on Jonathan WEBB, I will have to defer to Jerry Webb who just E-mailed me. Cuz'n Alan
I know very little about my Webb line, which is my Great-great- grandmother. This is all I have so far. Miranda Webb was born "near Peekskill, NY" on 14 Apr 1827, according to her obituary. That would be Westchester Co., NY, although three other counties are currently connecting together within a few miles of Peekskill including the counties of Putnam, Orange, and Rockland. By 9 May 1846, she was in LaSalle, Monroe Co., Michigan where she married Hiram Leonard. LaSalle is only about seven miles from Lucas Co., Ohio, which may or may not be a factor. She lived the rest of her life in LaSalle Twp., Monroe Co., Michigan, and died there on 22 Apr 1912. Her Webb heritage was considered to be important enough that her tombstone inscription gives her name as "Mirandy Webb Leonard". Her father's name was Allison Webb. Her mother probably was named Sally, with a last name possibly beginning with the letter A. Both of her parents had been born in New York state, according to census information about Miranda. I have so far not been able to connect her to any possible siblings or to locate any further information about her parents and their possible migrations. Deb S.
Excuse me, but what the genealogy list is about is sharing information sharing and making connects,
