David, There are land record books available for sale at Helen Mathis Library in Effingham, Illinois. My Webb's arrived on the ship T.J. Roger from Liverpool to Philadelphia on May 4, 1850. I have no idea where in England they came from. They are: James Webb, age 36, farmer; Anne (Hannah) Webb, his wife, age 30; William Webb, age 12; George Webb, age 6; Maria Webb, age 3; and Ellen Webb, age 0. This family is listed in the 1850 US Census in Lewistown, PA. While in PA they had 2 more children: Charles S. Webb, born Feb. 1852 in Lewistown, PA; and James Jackson Webb, born 20 Jan. 1855 in Lewistown, PA. I have no idea what happened to William, George or Marie Webb. Ellen (Nellie B) Webb married George S Thomas. Charles S Webb married Phoebe Catherine Culbertson. James Jackson Webb married Mary Amelia Young. All 3 families stayed in PA. If anyone out there can help me place my Webb's in England, or can help me learn what happened to William, George or Marie, I'd be grateful. Dana Webb Dellmore
Like many, I have a brickwall. Sarah Evaline Webb b.1833 TN d. 1925 TX m. Wm. Amasa Samford in TX Meredith E. Webb b. 1803 NC d. 1883 TX m (1) Charlotta Brown in TN. May have a brother named Milton. Believe his mother's name to be Sarah. John Webb?? father? Meredith's uncle is Meredith B. Webb who died in ARK, 1845. Have there been DNA testing for this Webb line? Thanks, Barbara

Mary, Don't give crazy people the power to hurt you! I thought your post was grand, and obviously so did many other people here. I've definitely learned something, and that is what we are all about. Thanks for your reply Ottice. I will explore this possible connection. Out of curiosity, have you participated in the Webb DNA project? One of my deceased Uncles, Glover Arnold, has a couple of sons still living. I am going to approach them to see if they will participate if I pay for the testing. This is one avenue that I haven't tried yet on the Webb side that could pay dividends in my search. I was in a similar delimma with the search for my Fletcher roots, and DNA testing has opened some significant doors. Thanks again. FYI, I scanned most all of the old Webb pictures that my Cousin Greta has in her possession. These include the tin types of Isaiah Thomas and Mary Webb. The original tin types were not in good shape, but one can still make out the likenesses of them. Another interesting tidbit, in my family is the use of heart shapes. Myh GGrandfather Isaiah Glover Webb used heart-shaped branding irons on his livestock when Missouri was a free-range state. He also forged heart-shaped brake handles for his buggy and wagon. It's great to see an active list! Thank you for all you do. I appreciate the WEBB team. I'm willing to share and I have never not received one or more responses to a posted query. I find if people don't know, they'll try to send you where you might get the answer, and that's fine with me. When you're looking at a brick wall, anything helps. With all the James and John Webbs, I'd still be wandering around in the dark without everyone's help. Thanks, all. Sue At 02:51 PM 8/2/05 -0400, you wrote: >Hello list . Just a suggestion: on some other name sites I'm on, they post their subject w/the state always first, like this: VA/WV-Webb, Russell, s/o Henry and Lear or AR-Kayser, Christian, Ger>NY>AR As long as the state is first so you can grab the locale as you scan the emails. If I know none of the family went to Texas, I'm inclined to cache that one for later. Hi Chris, maybe something to look at maybe not: 1.. Sep 9, 1839 George W. Webb, a resident of Iowa, purchased the northwest quarter of section 27 in T6N R5E. 2.. Nov 18, 1843 Lewis Webb purchased the east half of the sourthwest quarter of section 26 T6N R5E. 3.. Nov 18, 1843 Isaac H. Webb purchased the south half of the northeast quarter of section 26 T6N R5E. 4.. Nov 18, 1843 Isaiah B. Webb purchased the southeast quarter of the southeast quarter of section 26 T6N R5E. 5.. Aug 4, 1848 Henry H. Webb purchased the northwest quarter of the southwest quarter of section 26 T6N R5E George W. WEBB is the s/o Samuel WEBB and Sarah HALLER of Berks Co., PA, Clark Co., KY, and Orange Co., IN and he appears in the 1850 census in Effingham County before returning to Orange Co., IN by 1853: 1850 US Census, Effingham Co., IL, p. 669: George W Webb, 38, b. KY; Edith, 31, b. IN; Jane A, 18, b. OH; Sarah E, 11, b. IN; Mary Jane, 9, b. IN; Lewis H, 6, b. IL; Harriet, 4, b. IL Lewis, Isaac, and Henry all purchased land in the same section and only about 1/2 mile from George WEBB's land. Isaac is probably George's brother but all are probably either siblings of George or possibly the sons of his brother Benjamin. It isn't clear whether any of them other than George actually lived in Effingham County as most all of them appear in the 1850 & 1860 census of Orange Co., IN. Or perhaps I'm mistaken about all except George. I haven't had the time to actually pursue looking for deeds as the research wasn't taking me where I wanted to go at the time. One thing that is very interesting about the 1850 census record above is that in the family is a Jane A. WEBB who is not likely the daughter of George and she was also born in Ohio. So far I've seen no evidence that any of Samuel WEBBs family ever resided in Ohio so her presence is a mystery. I've not been able to locate her before or after 1850. The exact ancestry of Samuel WEBB, b. 1762 SC according to the DAR record, father or grandfather of these WEBBs, has not been established although some believe he was the son of Benjamin WEBB b. 1732 Berks Co., PA. However, there is nothing that supports this and there is evidence to indicate it may not be true. As to whether there is any connection of your John WEBB b. 1784 I couldn't say but it might be worth investigating. When did your John WEBB arrive in Effingham County and do you know anything about possible siblings in the Jefferson Co., KY area? Hello list . I have gotten 2 really hateful letters from one woman about me writing the letter the other day asking for us to all work together as a team. I do not understand why anyone should be upset by this as I feel we all have gotten some long overdue information on so many various Webb branches which helps us all in the long run. If I offended anyone else then I do apolize. I guess we can all just set and wait and hope that connections will come though. I will say this has really hurt me. I am a giving person and that is all I was trying to do is to help us all. Mary Wyatt
