This is an obit for a Catharine (Weaver) Lord, daughter oif Solomon Weaver. Not mine, she is the 2nd wife. I go through the first wife. Greg Obit - Valley Falls, KS, Vindicator, September 21, 1928. page 1 DEATH OF MRS. LORD - Mrs. C.C. Lord died at her home here Thursday, September 13, following a protracted illness. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E.C. Nelson, pastor of the Lutheran Church. With a few additions the following obituary was written by Mrs. Lord shortly before her death. Catharine A Weaver was born at Huff Run, near Canton, Ohio, May 21st, 1849. Her father being a minister, the family lived in different places in her earlier childhood, settling finally in Waterville, Franklin County, where her father the trustee of Otterbein University. The Spring of her 6th year he decide to go farther west and locate another college, this being his chosen work. They settled near Vinton, Hurton co. Iowa, where they remained a year, afterwards going to Western Linn Co. where Western College was located. Her father was the founder and first president, from 1856 to 1864. Her she attended the public school, and later the College, till 1864, when the family moved to Lecompton, Kans. where Lane University was located. Mrs. Lord's father was president of this institution from 1864 to 1866. She attended that college for about three years, when the family moved to Madina, and from there to Valley Falls in the Fall of 1871. She was married in 1873 to C.C. Lord; and has made her home in this place from that time on. To this union were born 4 children, Anna, Hugh, Caius, and Ruth. Both girls passed on in early childhood. Mrs. Lord was a member of the United Brethren church from ealy childhood, until she came with her father's family to Valley Falls. There being no church of the United Brethren here, she united with the M.E. church, where she remained a member for more than 50 years, when she transferred her membership by letter to the Lutheran Church, where she has been an honored member till the day of her death, Thursday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. Mrs. Lord has been in poor health for several years but was confined to her bed for only about 2 months. Her father Solomon Weaver, was publisher of the "New Era" at Medina, moved it to Valley Falls in 1871, a short time before his death. It was sold to C.C. Lord, who published it over a year and then sold it to G.A. Harman, who combined it with the "Grasshopper". After changing hands the paper was merged with the Vindicator. Mrs. Lord had four brothers and one sister, all of whom preceded her in death. Her brother John was at one time Judge of the Circuit Court of Iowa. She had an Uncle who was for many years a bishop of the United Brethren Church. Mrs. Lord was a member of the Lincoln Circle, Ladies of the G.A.R., Topeka, The Rebekans, the Security Benefit Ass'n., and the Forget Me Not Club.
