While searching for more information on the Martin/Stuart/Beeson families I came across mention of the Edward Barton (1763, MD - 1838, Wayne Co) and his wife Ann HARRIS (1769-bef. 1824) family (of which I am familiar with.) I thought I'd pass some information along for those who may be interested: Edward Barton and Ann Harris were married on Dec. 2, 1786 in Caroline Co, MD. They were "Nicolites." Nicolites were a religious sect much like the Quakers, only stricter and was founded abt. 1760 by Joseph Nicols in the Kent Co, DE and (now) Caroline Co, MD area. Joseph Nicols died Dec., 1770. By about 1798, the Nicolites were dissolving and sold their 3 Meeting Houses to the Quakers (many became Quakers.) There were also a number of Nicolite families who started migrating to the Jamestown (Guilford Co), NC area after Nicols' death (one Nicolite was Valentine PEGG who died in Wayne Co in 1828.) Ann (Harris) Barton was born March 4, 1769 (birth recorded in the Nicolite records) and was the daughter of Wm. Harris and his wife Ann COLLINS/COLLINGS (b: abt. 1736, MD) The Harris's were staunch Nicolites. Wm. Harris died in 1784, Caroline Co, MD and Ann married 2nd. (no date found) to Frederick CAUSEY (d: 1787.) She married 3rd (8/31/1791, MD, also Nicolite records) William ANDERSON. Many of the early Indiana Quaker ANDERSONs were descendants of William Anderson's brother (James.) Hope this helps someone. Marsha IL
