    1. GenFest update - Aug. 28, '04
    2. unicorn1945
    3. Just to let you know that we've added some new information to the GenFest site; specifically, area campgrounds and some interesting places to visit in the area. We'll continue to add to these places of interest, so if there's any place you know of that we might want to add, let me know off list. Also, I've talked to Mary Lou at the genealogy library and we're going to try and get the Friends of the Library to have a table with any books relating to history or genealogy in any way. This is the group that has a library book sale several times a year and Mike and I have picked up some wonderful books about Scotland, Ireland and so forth. I hope to be confirming and adding more organizations this coming week and, once again, I apologize to those who get duplicates of this update. Shirley Pearson a.k.a. 3. Trey: Glad to: We found that to get such data for any member of a Masonic Lodge in the State of Ind., one must apply to the Grand Masonic Lodge for the State of Ind. Upon a formal request submitted via snail-mail, they will do a genealogical search of their records. You give them as much information as you can (We were able to supply name, residences, and dob.), enclose a check for $15, and in due course you will likely get such information as they may have. Their address is PO Box 44210, Indianapolis, Ind. Phone: (317) 634-7904. 1. REUNION SURNAME LIST SUBMISSION
    2. Karen Creamer
    3. Hello This message includes information on submitting a list of the surnames you are researching in Franklin County, Indiana. The names will be included on a printed list that will be distributed at the reunion and will also be available to be sent by mail if you cannot attend. In order to keep things consistent and make the list more useful to other researchers, I'm asking that you follow these instructions when sending your list. I have received quite a few lists already, but they are all in different formats and most will not lend themselves to a uniform presentation. IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY SENT ME A LIST, PLEASE SEND IT AGAIN AS FOLLOWS: 1. REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE AND SEND YOUR FILE AS AN ATTACHMENT. Don't list your surnames in the body of the email message, please. 2. Send the file in PLAIN TEXT format (usually .txt) The file name should be the same name as your email address--the part before the @ symbol. (Example: my file would be named "karenc.txt.") If you don't know how to create a plain text file, please email me with the name of your word processing program. I'll try to help. 3. Fill out all requested information on the form below. If you do not want your address or phone number published on the list, indicate "don't publish" after the information, but remember that the purpose of the list is to make it easy for people to find you. 4. List each surname on a separate line (maximum 10 surnames) Include approximate dates on the same line as the surname. Do not include any other information, please. 5. Be sure I have your email by September 12. YOUR NAME: STREET ADDRESS: CITY, STATE, ZIP: PHONE NUMBER: EMAIL ADDRESS: NAME OF ATTACHED SURNAME FILE: Thank you for your cooperation. 1. REUNION CD GEDCOM SUBMISSION!
    2. Karen Creamer
    3. Hello We are finally back from vacation--a few days later than we thought--and are ready to start on the Franklin County Pioneer Reunion again. I have had several questions about how to submit a file for inclusion on the CD, so THE FOLLOWING ARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING YOUR GEDCOM FILE. Please follow them exactly; I need to have consistent information from everyone in order to make a CD that will be useful. I MUST have all the indicated information, or I will not be able to include your file on the CD. IMPORTANT: Submitting your gedcom file and ordering a CD are two separate activities. We will send another message with an order form when we are ready to receive orders and money. IMPORTANT: If you have previously submitted a file to me, please _do it again_. Some of you did not include complete information, and some subject lines didn't indicate that you were attaching a file. My spam filter may have deleted your message, or I may have not recognized it as a submission and deleted it myself. I had over 2,000 email messages when I got back! Okay, here is what I need you to do: 1. REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE AND ATTACH YOUR FILE. This will ensure that you will send it to the correct email address and that your subject line is the one I will recognize. Include this message with your reply. All email programs have a "reply" feature. Please use it! 2. Make sure your file is in GEDCOM format and is sent as an ATTACHMENT. (Most genealogy software exports in gedcom format by default. If you're not sure your software does this automatically, try searching the Help file for "gedcom.") If you can't create a gedcom file, please email me separately. 3. Name the file the same name as your email address (the part before the @ symbol.) For example, my file would be named "karenc.ged." This will help me keep the file with the right person. If you don't know how to rename a file, please email me and I will help you--or contact me on AIM. My screen name is cuzzinkc1, and my email address is karenc@thepoint.net. 4. Fill out the form at the end of this message. I need ALL of the requested information, but I won't publish your address and/or phone number if you don't want me to. Just indicate "Don't publish" after each item you don't want included on the CD. (I will say, however, that the purpose of this CD is to allow people to contact you if they can help with your research or believe you might be able to help them. You may want to make it as easy as possible for someone to find you!) 5. Include no more than 10 (ten) surnames on the form. I'm working on making a searchable index for the CD, and I think ten is a reasonable number. (The index may or may not happen, depending on how much time I have.) 6. Send your email before August 22nd. Since we're a week late in returning from vacation, I'll give you a little more time. But I can't guarantee that I'll be able to include any file I receive after the 22nd. Here is the form: NAME: STREET ADDRESS: CITY, STATE, ZIP: PHONE NUMBER: EMAIL ADDRESS: NAME OF ATTACHED GEDCOM FILE: MAIN FRANKLIN COUNTY SURNAMES: Thank you for your cooperation. We hope this will be a useful tool for furthering your Franklin County research. 1. MCPHERSON Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Mr. A.W. MCPHERSON and his wife Mattie MAXWELL MCPHERSON which was taken at the Carpenter Studio in Panora, Iowa. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with the couple looking to be in their 30's or 40's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I believe this is a photograph of Augustus W. MCPHERSON b. 16 October 1845 in Wayne County, Indiana to parents Joseph Wilson MCPHERSON and Sarah LENNINGTON. Joseph Wilson MCPHERSON was b. 1815 in Ohio, the son of George D. MCPHERSON and Charity H. LOCKE, Charity being the daughter of Captain John LOCKE of Roanoke, Virginia. Joseph married Sarah LENNINGTON in 1834 and together they had twelve children, George B., Abraham L., John B., Augustus W., Mary Jane, James Monroe, Rufus K., Emma C., Exaline S., Myrta E., and two who died in infancy. The family came to Guthrie Co., IA in 1857, living in Mackville (between Greenfield and Redfield) and then in 1896 moved to Herford, South Dakota with some of his sons. Augustus W. MCPHERSON pictured in the photograph with his wife was in the Railroad business. May of his siblings settled in Stuart, Iowa, while Rufus K. MCPHERSON went to Portland, Oregon. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
