    1. Re: [Wayne Co Ind] death lookup
    2. Lindsey, There is a George Anderson in the SSDI born 18 Sept. 1903 and died June 1972. Last residence in SSDI was Vincennes, Knox, IN. Last residence doesn't always mean where he was living when he died nor does it mean where he died. SS card was issued in IN. If this isn't the right George Anderson, then I think you need to give us more information on what to look for. Ruth Cherecwich

    3. thanks for those that responded with information. here's what it is looking like and i would still very much like to identify children from the first two marriages. this information on children's birth years is from 1850 and 1860 census, showing differences between the 2 census. jonathan kindley marriage 1 to hannah pickett (5-28-1831 wayne co) (6-23-1831 to hannah piggott) (via ind.st.lib.gen.database, mgs thru 1850) known children: elizabeth born 1832 Indiana marriage 2 to linda t. brown (4-30-1837 via wayne co, ind.gov't mg.license records) no known children marriage 3 to margaret briley (9-9-1841 montgomery co, ohio from genealogy.com) known children: sarah 1842-43 OH james w. 1845 OH john c 1846-49 OH guley e. 1848-51 OH laura c. 1853 OH mortitia m. 1856 OH seth c. 1859 the 1860 spelling for guley was gulelima. anything anyone can ad would be most welcome with thanks in advance. karen in CA

    3. hummmm, at rootsweb someone has marriage of jonathan kindley to hannah pickett as 6-23-1831 at the Chester Mh in Wayne co. this of course fits with the rest that i have found and elizabeth's birth 1832 (according to grave stone). i'm now searching for information on the Chester Mh but not a lot of luck yet..... just thought i'd share. karen

    3. well, i'm becomming overwhelmed! now i find the following: jonathan kindley to alice t brown 4-30-1837 book b, page 634 via wayne county, indiana government could hannah pickett still be first wife, before alice brown and margaret bryly? karen

    1. kindley / pickett - a marriage
    2. Karen Clanin
    3. i did find marriage listed at genealogy.com: Jonathan Kindley to Margaret Bryly 9-9-1841 in Montgomery Co, OH hummmmm, so it makes me wonder if the Ancestry source has the marriages backwards, Jonathan married 1) hannah pickett and 2) margaret briley/bryly. this would make sense. karen

    1. kindley / pickett

    3. it's been suggested, and rightly so, smile, that i include some dates with my request. will do so. my husband's greatgreatgrandmother was Elizabeth Kinley. family told me she was born march 1836 in Indiana. i have found her marriage to John Tingle at the preble co, ohio web site as 1-28-1858. her grave stone is in the Bentonville, Fayette Co, Indiana cemetery and says birth was 1832 and death 1917. through the kindness of the wife of the caretaker of the bentonville cemetery, who went to the health department in connersville and looked up the death for me i learned that Elizabeth's father was Jonathan Kindley and mother was Hannah Pickett (also found as Piggott). In the Quaker records, Miami MM, i have found Jonathan, born 9-28-1808 is son of John Kindley (b 4-20-1788) and Betty (others have her as Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Wilson) b 10-10-1791. Jonathan's siblings were listed as Joel b 1811, Sarah b 1813, Elizabeth b 1815 and Ruth b 1817. So far I have not found a marriage for Jonathan Kindley and Hannah Pickett/Piggott nor have I found their other children, siblings to Elizabeth born 1832/1836 The Jonathan I find in the 1850 and 1860 census in Washington twp, Milton, Wayne Co lists wife as Margaret. In this 1850 census Jonathan is 40 which would make him born 1810 inOH, close enough to 1808. Margaret listed as 25 and born MD. as far as elizabeth goes, she was not with jonathan/Elizabeth in 1850 but this would appear to be her below: 1850 wayne co in TYPE IN Elizabeth HINDLEY John Kindley 28 ohio Betty 58 s.c. Elizabeth 16 in Henry Walden 14 lab. ind. it would appear Elizabeth was living with her grandmother Betty In the 1860 census Jonathan was age 52 so born 1808 which matches Quaker records, Margaret listed as 33 born PA. aged only 8 years and now born PA instead of MD. A site at Ancestry, Mark & Mariah's Family Tree, lists Margaret Briley as 1st wife of Jonathan Kindley. 2nd wife is Hannah Picket. Now, if Elizabeth was born 1836, and Jonathan's 1st wife Elizabeth was still living and with him in 1870 census, then Hannah isn't Elizabeth's mother?????????? in the 1860 census for Milton, Wayne Co John Tingle age 23, laborer, born DE with wife Elizabeth age 25 born IN. They have 10 month daughter Emma born IN. this would have Elizabeth born 1835, in the ballpark of 1832-1836. in the 1870 census for Milton, Wayne co. John is 35, now a carpenter, born DE, wife Elizabeth now age 35 so still born 1835 in IN. Children are Emma now age 11, Eva age 9, Mollie age 2, Minnie age 2, Betty Kinley age 70 born IN. Mary aka Mollie Tingle is my husband's ancestor, having married Vanlandingham Curtis. 1870 Wayne Co Ind has Betty Kinley age 79 born SC living with her son John. Mark and Mariah's information at Ancestry has a death date for Jonathan Kindley as 1868. so, now my questions become: 1) can anyone shed any light on Jonathan's wives, Margaret Briley and Hannah Pickett and marriage dates? 2) does anyone have anything else to help me sort this out? 3) any other children of Jonathan Kinley/Kindley besides Elizabeth? thanks karen (hoping i have all of this correct here.)

    1. Looking for Descendants of David S. Way and his 3 wives ... Miss Emily A. Kibbie, Mrs. Rachael Dougherty & Mrs.Catherine Kisling
    2. Brian & TerriRene Howard
    3. David Way was born Sept. 10, 1824, in Wayne county, Indiana. At the time of his death his age was 80 years, 7 months, and 6 days. In the 1850 census (Polk Township, Benton County, Iowa) He was the Head of Household, his parents and their other children lived next door to his family. This is the data: 1850 Federal Census, IA, BentonCo, District No. 11, page 52B, line 24, family/dwelling #27: David WAY, 25, male, farmer, b. IA; Emily Ann WAY, 23, female, b. [ILL? could be IA?]; James T. WAY, 3, male, b. IA; Mary E.J. WAY , 1, female, b. IA. Here is the 1860 Census for Center Point, Washington Twp., Linn Co., Iowa: David S. Way - 29 Aug 1905 I now believe the family to have been: Jasper T. Way b. abt 1844 in Benton Co., Iowa Louisa Dougherty b. abt 1845 in Ohio James Thomas Way b. abt 1847 in Iowa Mary Eliz.J. Way b. abt 1849 in Iowa William D. Way b. abt 1850 in Iowa Amariah P. Way b. abt 1852 in Benton Co., Iowa Seth K. Way b. 1854/1856 in Benton Co., Iowa Sarah M. Way b. 17 Dec 1859 in Center Point, Polk Twp., Linn Co., Iowa Obituary - David S. Way - April 1905 David S. Way, Oldest Pioneer in Benton County, Died Sunday, April 16,1905. The oldest Pioneer in Benton County, David S. Way, died April16th., 1905. He was also the oldest Mason in the county, having been a Mason for nearly fifty years, and he was buried by that body. He came to this country with his parents in 1839 - 66 years ago.His father, Thomas Way, settled on a farm in Polk township in the year stated. The early history of Benton county is replete with mention of the part he took in the early organization of the county government. When he came to the county at that early date the county was a part of Linn county and was not set apart for a number of years after his settling in Polk township. On the 28th of January, the deceased, David Way, was married to Miss Emily A. Kibbie. To this union five children were born, of whom three are living. Following the birth of their youngest child, Seth Way, his wife died. He was married in 1856 to Mrs. Rachael Dougherty. To them one child was born, Mrs. Sadie Dovers, with whom he was living at the time of his death. This wife died and in 1881 he married Mrs.Catherine Kisling who died about a year ago. Besides his sons and daughters he leaves many other relatives to mourn his departure. The funeral services were held in the Ceadr Ridge church Monday afternoon. The body was laid away in the Kisling cemetery. Thus has passed away one of the early and honored pioneers of the county. ** Can anyone identify what happened to these family members? I am most interested in Louisa Dougherty as she may be my best link to the ellusive Mrs. Rachael Dougherty (my second great-grandmother) the mother of Sarah M. Way. Thank you, Terri Rene DaVar-Howard <brianter@macatawa.org>

    2. Connie Bartlett
    3. Jenni.. The Wayne Co Genealogical Society has researchers that are happy to help. There's a fee, but not too bad. I had some work done a few years ago; I think it only cost me a total of $45. The lady that was assigned to me did a lot of work; she just about exhausted all the sources that she had available to her. I got a lot of good info from that. Here's the link; you can check it out and get in touch with them. If you're in the Richmond area, even better. That's where they're located; perhaps a local phone call could get you a lot of basic info on what to do, and how much it might cost. http://www.waynet.org/nonprofit/wcgs.htm Good luck! 2. Janet Shade
    3. Hello again, I have been able to access the early marriage records and found Henry Moorman and Mary Baumer (Beamer in records), 9-12-1835. Two of there children were born in Wayne county before they moved to Franklin county. Looks like other brothers and sisters of Henry's and some Baumer family members also went to Franklin county, Indiana. Are there any BAUMER family researcher out there? Happy to share what I have. Believe that my Rudolph Henry Moorman B: 1806, came with his father Henry Moorman, in 1834 to Wayne county. Looks like my Henry's father and grandfather, John Casper, went back to Cincinnati and died there in the late 1830's. They were Catholic..does anyone know the name of the Catholic church in Richmond? Thanks, Janet

    1. Capital Hill Cemetery
    2. Can anyone advise if Capital Hill is still an active cemetery? If so, do they have an office where I could contact them by phone or e-mail? I am looking for place of burial of Sarah HERITAGE who was in the 1870 census in Cambridge City but does not appear in the 1880 census of IN. Her husband, Jonas Heritage, died 26 December 1856 and is buried in Capital Hill Cemetery. Source: Volume III of Beverly Yount's TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS IN WAYNE COUNTY, INDIANA. No other members of this family are listed in the Yount work. Sarah would have been about 74 in 1880. Her married daughter and a grandson who had been living with her were in the 1880 census in Dayton, OH so it's possible she died 1870-1880. Would appreciate any help. Hazel - Venice, FL

    1. Re: [Wayne Co Ind] Wayne Twp Cemetery
    2. Hi Lynn& others, Thanks Lynn for your response. You are probably correct. I took the name from a page I had copied some time ago. The heading at the top of the page says "Wayne Township Cemetery Records." As I look at it again, I believe that is the name of the book which probably has all the cemeterys in the twp. Unfortunately, I only copied one page and did not get the name of the specific cemetery. Sorry for the glitch. I am looking for the cemetery where my ancestor Allen M. Jones (b Jul 3 1808 d Feb 8 1872) is buried. He is listed on page 67 of the above book. If anyone can help I will appreciate it. Thanks in advance. 3. Jim, are you any relation to the Hendrix's or Hendrick's? There is a Barbee bible, I think I have excerpts from it, and it shows some marriages to Hendrix's. My Gr.Gr. Grandfather was Wm. Honey Hendrix, son of Moses and Frances Honey Hendrix, and Moses was the son of Abraham and Mary Goodwin Hendrix from Pa. and Ky. My grandmother, Polly Ann Hendrix m. Lewis Knoll whose father, John Knoll and wife Susannah Knipe were settlers of Wayne Co. in 1832 before moving to Owen Co. In. Noticed your name and thought you might know of these people. Would appreciate a note from you. Joan in Parke Co.
