    1. DNA Tests
    2. James R. Baker, Jr.
    3. I would urge all Bakers to get the Baker DNA Test. The cost is about $100 through the Group. It's simple to do. They mail you a test kit. You swab the inside of your cheek, put the swab inside the bottle, mail it back, and wait for the results. A male named Baker must take the test. A group of 300 Baker researchers are trying to find who connects to whom, thus allowing the sharing of family information. We welcome any Baker's world wide to join us. Please join us at the Baker Ancestors group. Surnames in Project: Baker, Bakker, Beaker, Boecher, Le Baker Requirements: Since a Surname Project in essence traces members of a family that share a common surname, and females (a) don't carry their father's Y-DNA, and (b) acquire a new surname by the way of marriage, in order to be relevant to the Surname Project, the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his paternal line (father's father's father's...). The test to be ordered is either the Y-DNA12, Y-DNA25 or Y-DNA37, and females should look for a brother or cousin with that surname to be tested. Females can also order a test for themselves, which will be the mtDNA or mtDNAPlus, but the results of this test cannot be tied to the Surname Project. For more information: http://www.bakerdna.net/ Note: I have no financial interest in this project. I'm just a Baker who has taken the test and would like to see Bakers from all lines take it. My Test proved a connection that I had been trying to prove with documents for over 40 years. Jim . . . James R. Baker, Jr. Free Genealogy Databases http://www.jrbakerjr.com .

    3. SYLVESTER A. BAKER and Hulda Hendricks were married in 1847 in Wayne county, then later went to Putnam Co. I'm trying to find his parents' names. IF he is the person I think he is, he was raised by a Susan Connett (Conant)who was in Wayne in 1840, then also went to Putnam. His father, John Baker, died in Kentucky and his mother, Susan, remarried to Nicholas Connett. Nicholas died in Ohio. There were two sons. The other may be the LORENZO BAKER who also married in Wayne. He went to Illinois, then Missouri. Any help would be appreciated. I've been trying to find the two sons of John Baker and Susan Connett for a long time. Thanks, Jim

    1. Susan Kendall 1952-2005
    2. Hello, I send this to the Wayne County, IN list because Susan Kendall may have assisted some of you in your search for your ancestors. We have found that her touch spanned many states and even reached over into Europe. Quoting from my earlier message to the Darke Couty (DCO) list: "For those of you who may not have heard, the Darke County Ohio genealogical research community has suffered a great loss in the death of Susan Kendall on Friday, April 22. Susan was a tremendous asset to those who were searching in Darke and Preble counties, sharing from both her private research collection and that of the Preble County District Library where she has served as Director for the past 24 years. The DCO list ( DARKE-OH-L@LISTSERV.INDIANA.EDU ) will be collecting donations [through May 14th] to give to the Susan Kendall Memorial Fund in Susan's memory. These donations will be presented as a single donation from the online research community. If any you would like to join with us, please e-mail me [mailto:jane@dcoweb.org] for further instructions regarding how to participate. And most certainly, if you would like to make a private donation in her memory, please do so. Her obituary stated: "In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial contributions to the Susan Kendall Memorial Fund at the Preble County District Library, 450 South Barron Street, Eaton, Ohio 45320- 2402." We are also putting together a collection of tributes and memories of Susan. If you would like to participate in this, please e-mail your sentiments to [mailto:jane@dcoweb.org ." ----------------------------------------------- This page has now been opened at: http://php.ucs.indiana.edu/~jetorres/Susie.html If you have interesting in adding your sentiments, we welcome you to do so. In her capacity as Library Director, Susan guided the library to become a shining example of what a rural county public library system can become. Susan also had an intense interest in genealogy and a great capacity for sharing her own information and helping others find information. Through her guidance the Preble County Room was created and has grown to become a wonderful genelogical research center. She was the perfect combination of Librarian/Genealogist. Thank you, --Jane Barr Torres

I have a map of the cemetery and the plot doesn't seem to be too far behind the office on National Road, West. There are 8 graves and they are all in the same plot. Thank you .........Pat

    1. Mysterious unidentified Stout Photos
    2. Hi, I am having a terrible time identifying my Stout family. My ggrandfather was John A. Stout. He was an orphan raised from early childhood by a Wayne Co., Indiana family with a different surname, yet he knew and wrote about an Aunt Jane Stout, a George Stout and a Matt Stout and others -- an Oliver, a Minnie, a Sissy Housefield? and a Heiss? Would anyone interested please look at these two photographs of several of his unidentified Stout family members and see if they recognize anyone? I believe the photos were taken in the late 1930s, so some of these people are probably still alive. Here is the link: http://www.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=shasta4737&view=63&pid=326& photoindex=1&rand=33321 If you click the smaller photo it will enlarge it. The only person that I can identify is my Great Uncle Harry Amadore Stout (son of John A. Stout), but I am told that the others were related to him (and they do look like him), but there are not any names on the back of the photos. Harry Amadore Stout was born about 1897 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana, but I do not know where the pictures were taken. Harry was married to a Jewel Jenkins. Thanks for any help! Susan E. Davis

    3. Hi Listers, This list has been great, now I have one more problem. I'm trying to track a Paul Graff. I have him in all the censuses up to 1890. Ancestry doesn't have all of the United States for 1990. If anyone has access to the 1990 census that is not Ancestry could you look up Paul Graff, born 1836, in Ohio, he was an American Express Agent, his wife Laura, born 1842, in Maryland, and a son Marcus or Mark, born 1867 in Indiana. In 1880 they were in Richmond, Wayne County. Thank you for any help. Pat Graff Saemmer

    3. Hi Listers, I just found out the Marcus Young Graff that I have been looking for died on August 6, 1858 in Richmond, Wayne County. His parents Marcus Graff died in 1865 and mother Maria died in 1879 and are buried in Lutherania Cemetery in Richmond. I'm trying to find out where the Marcus that died in 1858 is buried. Does anyone have any ideas. I live in Florida and don't know anything about Indiana. Thank you for any help. Pat Graff Saemmer
