Hello everyone, We are Tim and Sabrina Benner and we live in Wayne County Indiana and we have two children. We love genealogy and history in general. We have made several genealogy mini-trips in the past couple of years to the surrounding states. We also made it out to Gettysburg a couple of years ago. We are researching Addleman, Alexander, Brooks, Overman, Phillips, Townsend and Vail in Wayne County. A couple of months ago, my wife and I took on the task of maintaining the Wayne County INGENWEB site @ http://www.rootsweb.com/~inwayne/ . It has been going well and the site is growing. But we need your help to make it grow even more. We have a Surname Researchers page where you can submit the names you are researching so you can reach some contacts. We will also accept any Wayne County information: Wills, obits, marriage records, death records etc. If you would like to add anything Wayne County related to the site we will try to make room and add it. Good luck in your research, Tim and Sabrina
I have become more cautious on line. I have learned not everyone is just friendly. My name is my e-mail: I live in Indiana I am living with a grown daughter, son lives east of me a mile. He is married with 3 children. I love the kids, reading, history, genealogy, bird watching and planting flowers. {I'm kinda boring} I am a Christian and really try to work on it. I have always lived here where I am. I began on the west side of town and gradually moved east until I am out side of town now. I have visited, OH, IN, IL,[Chicago} PA MD, NY, CT, KY, TN, AL and DC Pretty much stayed put otherwise. I am one of a family of two girls and one boy. My siblings are scattered into Texas, and Alabama. Family began arriving here in late 1600's and probably all here by or before 1800. Scots-Irish, German, English, and a couple of Swiss thrown in for a mix. Way back are others, but these are closer related. Would love to retire to AL, but not unless son and family come too.:) Marlene
Name - Joan Overpeck Where live -Farm in Indiana Family - Husband, son, daughter, and son-in-law No grandchildren. Alumnus - IU and ISU AB Math and Biological Science and MS in Education I taught for several years and did volunteer tutoring for the literacy program for several years following retirement. Hobbies - Genealogy (of course) Reading ( everything, but especially mysteries) Cats (more info further down) euchre (also tournaments), used to do oil painting (may get back to this). I never am at a loss for something to do that interests me. Favorite food - Chocolate (Pie, cake, candy!), I could be a true vegetarian, I think, but do like pork chops. Pets: - One mixed beagle, Frances. And Cats - love 'em. One female lived to 20 years plus. Have one now that is 17. High Vet bill - you bet! Places you have traveled - Not much of a traveler --- Southern U.S. states mainly. Maybe would like to go to England - Ireland - Germany--- Recently turned down a trip to Hawaii. Connection to List - John Knoll and his wife Susannah Knipe Knoll came to Owen Co. from Wayne and/or Union Co., In. Susannah's parents were John and Sophia Knipe. I have info on John but have never found Sophia's surname or lineage. John Knoll came from Germany to the U.S. about 1832. The Knipes were from England, I believe. Comments: Nice list. I have enjoyed it and also reading the roll call. Jacque, loved your remarks. Had to read your letter to my family. We really related to your cat names! Would love to meet you. Thanks again, Frank, for your help with the Knipes. Gary, I agree with you that it is risky to reveal too much info on the net. There's a lot of scams around. I've received some unbelievable letters. Put your name in search and see what you come up with. However. I agree with you too, Frank. One can't be afraid of everything. Would make for a dull life, I guess. Glad to know you all.
Steve, Thank you for the kind words of defense. However, Gary is okay. I was on a number of Virginia lists for several years--compared, Phoenix/Frank's post is downright coffee klatch congenial! Responding to a question from a subscriber's email I received off list, I found it curious that I was not able to find where the person that originally posted the request ever posted their own information to either of two different lists that I received the same post on.. Possibly I just overlooked their post. At first that seemed curious; however after about twenty minutes my mind was at ease. I was able to locate their home town, their address (a choice of two listed-one with and one without a middle initial), the birthplace of the husband, his service dates in submarines--and his mother's and grandmother's maiden names and birthplaces--all posted to various lists. I am positive that I only scratched the surface of what could be easily found. I didn't take time to go to a .gov list to look up the current tax evaluation on their home; I wasn't that curious. Not that I have any use for any of the information other than easing my mind as to their motivation. It is interesting just how easy it was. Of course, as has been mentioned, it didn't require the answers to the questionnaire. Just wonder why anyone would wish to add to their information had it not been as innocent. Each year I enjoy exchanging similar information with a group of relatives and friends, some from high school--many of whom I have known most of my life and some I have become acquainted with on the lists, not total strangers--or lurkers. The main difference is it is strictly personal trivia, nothing of substance and it is not done on an easily searched archived listserver.. Enjoy. I think it's lovely that so many people responded to this. It really filled up my inbox, but I liked it. I don't think any of the info is too revealing, but good for us rooters to compare and see who else is out there and compare like-names, and what kind of people are in our group! >Today on another list I am on they did a different kind of roll >call. Instead of just putting your family line people listed various >things about themselves for example: >name Connie Bartlett >age 46 >where you live Rochester NH >places you have lived, born/bred in Wichita KS, moved to New England in >'81: Mass/Vermont/NH >family members, hubby Wade, two sons 17 and 21 >alumnus Wichita State University >hobbies, Reading, genealogy (haven't had much time lately), stupid reality >shows >favorite food, breads and more breads, especially with garlic >occupation, office mgr of a materials testing lab >pets, none; used to have a black and tan coonhound. Wow, lighten up on Gary a little bit. He was just trying to offer help from getting "ID thefted", and I thank and commend him for reminding us. I spent 32 years in law enforcement and, Frank, I'll bet most of those who responded just unwittingly gave up their passwords to Internet sites and other banking sources by giving their pet's names (most of us use pets names for passwords) I suspect a few maiden names could be gleaned, which open bank accounts, etc. Don't quit having fun, just protect some unnecessary information, (after all what do pet names have to do with Genealogy?). As for you Frank, where did you get that nasty case of paranoia with all your warnings. Go ahead and live life to the fullest and take your risks. By the way, how do you spell that maiden name, again, and don't forget to change your passwords. People, I have no hang ups about what gets posted to the lists that I subscribe to. However, this is foolhardy. Putting this kind of information, detailed information on your life, onto an archived list is an open invitation. You might as well wear a sign that says, "Hey, be me next!" Exchange this information privately if you must, but please don't be so trusting of the Internet. Some of you are giving practically everything but your SS Number. Gary Woodard
If the surname is Hind / Hinds / Hines / Oldham or Piersol, the information is of interest to me. I would appreciate anything sent. Thanks Clif Hinds --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail Mobile Take Yahoo! Mail with you! Check email on your mobile phone.
