    1. 1898 birth

    3. My paternal aunt Sarah always believed she was born in Walla Walla in 1898, but said she never could find a birth certificate. I asked for a lookup from the county health dept. several years ago when I was a new researcher. The clerk there told me there was a record, so I sent for it. It didn't come and didn't come, so I talked to the clerk on several occasions. She told me she was overwhelmed and working the jobs of 3 people. She also said those records are in a box in a warehouse somewhere away from her office. I guess I bugged her way too much, because after my last call she finally sent me an abstract or index for the record. Now that I've been doing this for some time, I realize that the wait really wasn't that long and that I should have refrained a lot longer than I did from calling this poor woman. The abstract doesn't tell me much although it has a street address for the birth. I have come to believe that the birth was somewhere else, possibly in another state altog! ether - NY. Sarah applied for her SSN in 1940, for which she had to have a birth record. I wonder if she got a delayed birth certificate then based on what she was told, also if it then would have pertinent information. If it is an actual real time birth certificate, that would help too since I would have them placed for that day in time at least. I would like to get the complete record but don't know how to go about doing that. Does anyone have any idea? It took me 50 years to find this aunt and she was gone by that time. My father was long gone too. This family was very fractured and the children evidently strewn all over the country. I didn't even know 6 of the children existed until I started research about 5 years ago. Their mother gave false information whenever possible, both to her children and to official records, but the original birth certificate would at least have to be right as to place. I have had a very hard time tracking this family's movements. When I did connect with Sarah's family, her life story was completely different from my father's life story and those stories are mutually exclusive. We still don't know whose version is true, if either, or possibly bits of each. The address of birth on the record I did get is 222 Boyer Ave., Walla Walla. I would also be interested to know what was at that address in 1898. If anyone can help with that also, I would be most pleased. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Loreen Wells
